2 E-Encourager 2 From My Heart to Yours It is that time again when we celebrate the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. What a glorious time! Even nature becomes an object lesson to the world the trees are budding, flowers are blooming, green grass is growing life is springing forth from that which was dead! It s Easter time! What does Easter tell us about Jesus our living Lord?.. He is.. Eternal Romans 6:23 Alive Acts 1:3 Savior Acts 5:31 True Revelation 3:7 Exalted Acts 5:31 Risen Luke 24:34 Let s celebrate! Let s tell others about our Lord! Let s compel others to come to worship with us Easter Sunday, as my aunt did with my parents some 60 years ago. On that Easter Sunday morning my dad committed his life to Jesus Christ to His Lordship. That day changed the course of my aprents marriage and family (which includes me). I am eternally grateful!! As an expression of our joy that Jesus is alive, let s commit the remainder of our lives to know Him better, to love Him deeper and to serve Him more! For His Glory E.J. You may include a note Jesus loves you. Items need to be at the Mission Center by May 18th. Shelly Sims from FBC Gallatin will be sharing about her recent medical missions trip to Haiti at our April 17th Program and Prayer Luncheon at 10:30 am at the Mission Center. Belinda Hogan will also share about her trip to help with the Shoebox Ministry. A covered dish luncheon will follow. The new evening WOM group at FBC Trenton is going strong! How exciting! 6 E-Encourager 6 NCMC Most of our NGRBA churches are emphasizing the North American Home Missions offering this month through and up to Easter Sunday. Our cooperative program and mission offerings that support our missionaries is one of the strong reasons I m glad I m a Southern Baptist. I just want to remind each of you that we have up close and personal our very own NAMB missionary in the person of Christina Boatright living with us and avidly working among our NCMC college students sharing Jesus with them on a daily basis. (According to NAMB, college students are the 2 nd largest UNREACHED people group in North America.) If you would like for her to come and share with your people during a worship service or mission s group please call us. In January, we also began ministering to a group of NEW students, who are international students from Nigeria and Ghana. Christina s connection with these students has really encouraged 2 of them to become involved not only within our BSU ministries but have also encouraged the group to begin visiting worship services of our local churches. We have also started a Sunday 9:15am Bible study for college students on campus, and then encourage students to attend local services. Also remember, we have a very personal Home missions opportunity to teach our children and allow them to become personally involved in a home mission s project of sharing Jesus with Indian children by having them collect items for children or make evangelistic items for children that we can take with us on our Canada Mission trip, May 23-June 1, to the 1 st Nation s People of Shoal Lake #39 Indian Reserve. This trip will be the very first time we have gone to this reserve, and it is our opportunity to be involved in the project of transforming a house into a church, which will be the very first church presence on the grounds of this reserve. Our Nehemiah church planter and NAMB missionary, Jay Kim, started a Bible study on this reserve last fall During one of those Bible studies he was given a house by a person attending the study for the purpose of converting the house into a church where the group could meet for worship. On April 10, Martin Stukenborg, youth pastor at Fulton Baptist, and his team of men (knowledgeable in construction) will visit the reserve and will draft a plan for re-modeling the home into a church. At that time we will know what it will take to make this ministry need a reality. Please pray for this trip as we have several other needs as well. The team will need Two 15-passenger vans to make the trip. At this time the BSU has none reserved. There are 3 students who need scholarship help to cover their $400/person expense. One of the team members is our Nigerian student, Bola. Pray that she receives in time an approved Canadian Visa so she can participate. Another way you can be a part of this mission trip is to help minimize the expense by donating food supplies for the team and for the community suppers we plan to serve before each night s worship service. Last year at our first evening supper/worship service we served 40 people from the reserve. Seven days later at our last supper/worship we served 80+ of the First Nations community. Your faithful prayers, and continuous support is what makes this ministry to these college students a reality. It s what made it possible for Taylor, a 19 year old, to hear about Jesus in his own college ese language in such a way that he asked Jesus to take charge of his life during one of our Wednesday Lunches. It s what is making it possible for a brand new Nigerian student to have the opportunity for the first time to participate in a mission trip to tell children about Jesus. It s what is making it possible for a Ghana student to come to America and play music in an American praise worship service. God is moving on campus in ways that I never imagined before. Please pray God will make us sensitive to the ways God wants us to be doing ministry to the students, not just good ways. He is Worthy to Receive the Rewards of His Sacrifice Souls Diann Barnes Cooperative Program Month The Cooperative Program is the funding process that Southern Baptists use to support missions and evangelism. Through the Cooperative Program, the mission of one church is extended to ministries which reach the lost, hungry, hurting, sick and displaced. In addition, the Cooperative Program is how we support more than 10,500 missionaries around the globe

7 E-Encourager 7 Edinburg- Two men and our pastor attended the NGRBA Men s Prayer breakfast at Jameson. They are sending 2 dozen little comforters to Canada with the BSU team. The Mustard Seed Thrift Store is still open on Wednesdays and Saturday from 10 am to 4 pm. Medicine Valley Community Ministry- While it became necessary to withdraw funds this month from our small saving account to cover shortfalls that had occurred in the General Fund our present greatest need is strong prayer support. Yes, it is time that additional financial support is necessary, but it will come more readily as a result of the prayer support of God s people. Beyond this our greatest need is for people to assume positions of leadership and service. What has developed here is a ministry focusing on the needs of hurting people. While at present we do not see people come to acceptance of Jesus and his gift of eternal life as we so much desire, we yet believe that day will come. We reach out to often confused, hurting and needy people through the Food Pantry Ministry and through Celebrate Recovery in expectation of also sharing the life changing gospel message. Through the Food Pantry we are now assisting about 60 households each month. In April we will begin operation of a secondary point of distribution utilizing the Community Building in Humphreys as the distribution point for people in the Humphreys and Reger communities. We expect this to increase the number of households assisted to some 75 or 80 families. With help from Mike Dennis and other leaders from 10 th Street our Celebrate Recovery Program has gotten off to a good start. Attendance including both adults and children has been running between 20 and 23 individuals weekly. We look forward to several special activities as we approach the Annual Celebration of Christ s Crucifixion and Resurrection. Special services are to be held on Palm Sunday, Good Friday and Easter Sunday. We began on Friday. March 16. a series of studies on the significance of His Death and Resurrection. Again, we express our gratitude to all who through their generosity enable this ministry to function and to impact the lives of a multitude of people who need the Lord in their lives. Thank you one and all for your support of this mission in you own back yard.
