2 E-Encourager 2 From My Heart to Yours Offer to God thanksgiving Psalms 50:14 There are so many things for which to be thankful. We have much more small blessings each day than we have small problems. We have a great deal more large blessings than we have large problems. We all should have an attitude of gratitude in spite of even adverse circumstances. We should offer to God thanksgiving every day many times a day. The more we express thanks the less we express hatred, hurts, complaints, bitterness, self-pity, anger, worry, fear et-cetra. Giving thanks to God and others transforms our thinking, feelings and desires-and is physically healthy as well. The more we give thanks the greater our God becomes, and the smaller our problems become. Everybody has the ability to offer thanksgiving, especially God s people. Nothing can stop us from giving thanks except ourselves. So, let s give thanks: 1) For our Lord and His protection, provisions and promises, 2) for the fearful and wonderful way we are made, 3) for our immediate and extended family members, 4) for the church and our part in it, 5) for our jobs and those with whom we work, 6) for our country and its leaders, 7) for the things we possess, 8) for the good and the bad times, 9) for others who make life better for us or who refine me, and 10) for the ability to be thankful. Thank you for being a blessing to Diann and me! Have a blessed month! For His Glory, Associational WMU The meeting was opened Tuesday, October 21 st, 10:30 am at the Associational office in Trenton. Our roll call was our favorite fall thing. Most were in agreement that the weather and fall colors were at the top of the list. Prayer requests were taken for churches in the association with many sick mentioned and also church revivals that were going on around the area. Our project this month was prayer walking around town. Different individuals took schools, government, jail, food bank, Christian thrift store and our leaders as their prayer focus. Shelly gave a report on the annual WMU training she attended in Jefferson City at the SB Headquarters. Our state WMU theme for the year is All For You, Surrender, Sacrifice, Serve, also our focus group for the year is people with PTSD. We had a group discussion on how to involve more women in WMU. Below is our desire. WANTED Mission minded Christian women who want to be involved in mission projects, pray for missionaries, start or grow like minded groups of women. Training available. Rewarding, fun job with flexible hours. Salary negotiable, but will include jewels for your crown. Call for more information. Next meeting is Monday, November 3 rd, 10:30 AM at Trenton First Baptist. This is Baptist Women's World Day of Prayer. We will have a special guest speaker and a world missions program. A luncheon will follow. Virginia Crumpacker gave our devotional from Romans 15 with the focus verses being 1, 7, and 12. We are to imitate Christ in all things. Romans 15:1 Now we who are strong ought to bear the weaknesses of those without strength and not just please ourselves. Sister in Christ Shelly Sims

4 E-Encourager 4 Book Reviews Best-selling author and ministry leader Thom S. Rainer drew an exceptional response when he posted a 500-word declaration about church membership to his daily blog. "I Am a Church Member" started a conversation about the attitudes and responsibilities of church members -- rather than the functional and theological issues - - that previous new member primers all but ignored. Thoughtfully expanded to book form, I Am a Church Member begins to remedy the outbreak of inactive or barely committed church members, addressing without apology what is expected of those who join a body of believers. When a person's attitude is consistently biblical and healthy, matters of giving, serving, and so forth will fall into place more naturally. Six intentional chapters with study questions guide this rising discussion: 1. I Will Be a Unifying Church Member 2. I Will Not Let the Church Be About My Preferences and Desires 3. I Will Pray for My Church Leaders 4. I Will Lead My Family to Be Healthy Church Members 5. I Will Be a Functioning Member 6. I Will Treasure Church Membership as a Gift What Every Christian Ought to Know provides readers with a well- organized, wellreasoned grasp of such topics as salvation, eternal security, prayer, the Holy Spirit, resisting temptation, finding God s will, as well as the authority of the Bible and how to understand it better. A valuable volume for new Christians and young disciples, it s also a suitably instructive resource for believers of all ages. Count Them One by One Perhaps we have not counted All our blessings one by one: Perhaps we have not bothered To remember whence they come. And maybe we have taken Just for granted all the things That the good Lord has created And the gifts that nature brings. The autumn hills in glory robed, A golden field of grain, A sunset s dazzling splendor Or the Milky Way s great plain, The starry sky s sublimity, The ocean s mighty power, The wonder of creation In the petal of a flower. And so if we have failed to show By word or act or deed That we are thankful unto him Who fills our daily need, May this day show we re grateful When we add up all the sum Of the blessings we remember, As we count them one by one. Author Unknown Proclaiming America's Christian Heritage "...to keep our families secure, communities safe and America free..." America's Christian Heritage Week November 23-29, Thanksgiving week - annually since 1992 "The religion which has introduced civil liberty is the religion of Christ and His Apostles... This is genuine Christianity and to this we owe our free constitutions of government." (Noah Webster, History of the United States, 1832, public school textbook.)

5 E-Encourager 5 The Objectives this year are: 1. Make Disciples, 2. Develop Leaders, 3. teach students to be intentionally mission minded. This Fall semester God is giving us some incredible opportunities to pursue these goals with a passion.!! In September we baptized 2 students, and God has allowed us to begin building bridges of friendship with 15 of our 18 international students. Three new international students have begun attending Communitas worship. Two internationals went with us to our NW GetAway Retreat at Miracle Hills Ranch south of Bethany. There were a total of 70 students from Maryville, St. Joe and our campus, who sat under the preaching of RikMaxedon, a church planter from St. Louis.!!!God has called us to begin three more ministries that I desperately ask you to be praying about. The first one will be a BSU s partnership with NCMC to provide ESL (English as a Second Language) classes as a credit offering to our international students. EJ and I attended a MO Baptist Convention training workshop in September, where we obtained certification as ESL instructors. Pray that in God s timing He will establish this tool as another bridge of communication to our students, that we might share God s story with them.!! The second ministry that we have begun is a 7:30am Thursday morning ministry to our agriculture Barton Campus. Each Thursday morning we take breakfast rolls to the campus to share with the students, and the agriculture director, Rustin Jump has graciously given us a moment of time when we dialogue with the students about leadership and character habits and attitudes that are trademarks of a successful career oriented student. The conversations have been very interesting. Pray that God s Spirit will use these conversations to pour into these students a desire to investigate and question what their World View is and Who the real source of Absolute Truth is God.!! The third ministry is more of a REAL NEED that will become an IMB ministry right here on campus. During the Thanksgiving 4-Day Holiday, our 18 international students will need a place to stay for the holidays. The dorms will be closed from Wednesday afternoon until Sunday afternoon. The time is too short for our International students to make a round trip. If you are interested in sharing your home and family traditions, becoming an international host family and sharing God s love, please contact me asap at , that I may pass on your contact information to the appropriate resource in order to begin ministering to these students during this holiday. Matthew 28:18-20!! During Saturday s MO Days, 8 BSU students and 2 leaders put in the hands of children 700 Kid gospel tracts. Then at the NGR booth we shared 720 gospel colored pencils, sharing each time the simple story of how Jesus came to earth, was crucified for our sins, will forgive us our sins if we ask Him, and pursues us with a passion to have an intimate relationship with each of us. Thanks to other donations 300 coasters and 50 key chains were also given away. Not counting the numerous cookies supplied by the WOM, there were 1,770 items given to visitors to make a connection for the purpose of sharing Jesus story.!! He is Worthy to Receive the Rewards of His Sacrifice Souls Diann!

6 E-Encourager 6 Medicine Valley- Sale of our former Offices and Ministry Center was completed on Monday, October 13 for approximately the amount we had invested there. While the funds from sale of the Harris property should help immensely in meeting this year s budgetary needs, additional financial assistance is sorely needed if we are to maintain and expand our present ministries. We practice Biblical stewardship to the best of our abilities and remain thankful to God and His faithful followers for every donation received. While age and health issues have in the past year or so along with financial concerns limited our growth and development in some respects we continue to regard this as a full time ministry for both myself and my wife, Mabel. We long to see a greater development of ministry in the Humphreys community including ultimately a solid community of believers meeting regularly for worship and Sunday Services. We long to see committed leaders develop in the Newtown-Harris area and have hope that some we are presently working with will become fully involved in service to God and others. We long to see the several Hispanic families now living in our area brought together as servants of God. For several years now funding has simply not been available to enable us to do an in-depth effective ministry to our Hispanic neighbors. The food ministry remains a strong portion of our ministry, as does personal visitation, counseling and encouragement. The Sunday services at Newtown remain a vital key to reaching lost souls for Jesus, as do the week night Bible Studies at our home in Humphreys. We continue to need the prayer support of God s people as well as increased financial support and hands on assistance. We remain grateful for all who heed God s call in support of this mission in your own backyard. May God s blessing be upon you one and all! Princeton- Remember October is Pastor Appreciation month so remember. A desire to honor God equals a desire to honor our minister. As a Pastor he serves for the honor of the Church and it's honor to God. TEAM Kid program is doing well with several attending each Wednesday evening for the learning of what God can and will do for them. Our WOM groups meet each month on the first Monday and Tuesday having good attendance with each group. Ladies of our church have started serving breakfast on the 2nd Wednesday of each month to the Fellowship of Christian Athletes at our school. Will be holding a Pastor's Appreciation Dinner on the 26th of October beginning at 5:30 PM with a hayride to follow at 7:00 PM. Then on the 31st of October will hold a Fall Harvest Celebration with fun and games for the children will be serving Hamburgers, chips and hot chocolate to everyone. Have two couples going to Tan-Tara for the MBC annual meeting in Osage Beach, Mo. Don't forget about Show me Sunday for Sunday School. Bring someone to Sunday School with you on October Held two 5th quarters Friday after the kids football games when they play at home. There has been a good attendance with activities including showing movies and treating them to a meal brought in by the members of the church. Salem October we had our GA girls from Salem, team with FBC for the GA retreat at Grand Oaks. Six girls total attended the event. They came forward that following Sunday to share with the church what all they did and had learned. On November 23rd Salem will hold it's Harvest Supper at 5:30pm December 24th- Salem will have a Christmas Eve service with candlelight and Communion. Trenton FBC We were very busy with the Missouri Days mission project the AWANA s had a float in the parade, we passed out 2000 bottles of water, 1500 pens and several stickers and tracts. All was done for the purpose of sharing the love of God. On November 3rd we will be hosting the Baptist Women s World Day of Prayer. Andrea Brummitt, missionary to the Czech Republic will be our guest speaker. The meeting begins at 10:30, there will be a covered dish luncheon at noon. All ladies are invited. We will have an OCC packing party on November 15th at 9:00 am. Dedication of the boxes will be on the 16th. December 1st and 2nd a group will be going to Minneapolis to help at the OCC Processing Center. November 23rd will be our international flag processional honoring our IMB missionaries. Gregg Brummitt, missionary to the Czech Republic will be our guest speaker. Keenagers went to breakfast at Jamesport and then to a mystery trip to St. Joe.
