5 E-Encourager 5 Celebrating 125 Years of WMU! What a celebration! I wish I could share everything we experienced at the Missouri Annual WMU Celebration at Warrensburg on April 12th-13th. WMU is celebrating its 125 anniversary this year. The Story Lives On is the theme. Elsie Mae Browning, Shelly Sims, Belinda Hogan and I were blessed to be able to go. At our April 16th Associational Luncheon, we shared different areas of the meeting that each of us focused on and participated in. But the entire program for both days was interesting, informative, and well planned from the eight missionaries, who had display booths and spoke during the assemblies, to the praise and worship times, and the breakout sessions. I wish more women from our association could have attended. There were 468 women that attended! During the assembly Friday evening those churches with new starts of age-level organizations were recognized. Salem Baptist Church was recognized for its new starts of WMU and Mission Friends. Salem was given a $50 gift certificate to the WMU Bookstore at the meeting. Thank you, Twyla Johnson, for your work in these new starts at Salem! Thursday, May 2nd, is the National Day of Prayer. I hope many of our groups and churches will participate in services that are held in our association. For our May 21st Associational Ladies Prayer Program, we will meet at 10:30 am at the Mission Center, then prepare to prayerwalk past City Hall to the courthouse. Those unable to prayerwalk may remain at the Mission Center to pray. Also, we will be collecting over-the-counter medications and unusual prescription medications until June 18th to be used for medical missions in Haiti. WalMart has a large bin of medications for only.88 up near the checkout lanes. These medications include pain relievers, cortisone cream and antibiotic salve that Shelly Sims can use in Haiti. Celebrating the 125th Anniversary of WMU will be the focus of our June 18th Summer Celebration at 10:30 am at the Missin Center. The special guest speaker will be Virginia Stephenson, Northwest Regional WMU Consultant, with others possibly sharing what WMU/WOM has meant to them. A covered dish luncheon will follow. There will be no monthly program or luncheon in July or August. We will resume on September 17th. More details later. Bev Martin WMU Director YOU ARE CORDIALLY INVITED!!!!! 6 E-Encourager 6 NCMC Two more weeks and this year will be history. God has showered this semester with blessing after blessing. One of our young men, Joshua Ishmael, is serving as FBC Princeton's Uth minister while continuing to pursue his degree as well as facilitating an apologetics class on Tuesday 8 pm for any students seeking real truth and questioning "If God is real, why...". Another of our young men shared that he no longer has a set plan for post graduation because he feels God is calling him to serve HIM. 12 of our students attended the Winter Retreat at Grand Oaks, "Redeem the Time", where they learned how to spontaneously share their faith in Jesus Christ. Upon their return Saturday afternoon, I began seeing these students take what they learned and begin to purposely share Jesus. Eight of our students joined in a spring break partnership with OTC, Springfield, to share Jesus on Johnson CO Community College campus, KC, Ks. From 10 am till 3 pm, eleven of our team had 90 conversations of salvation with JCCC students. One of our team, lead a student to faith in Jesus in the middle of a hallway in the center where we were ministering. On NCMC campus, Ashley prayed a prayer of salvation with one of her classmates, and that young woman found herself bringing another of her friends to our Tuesday night Communitas worship. Christina specifically prayed that God would bring a certain baseball player to Communitas on a specific Tuesday night. That young man found himself at the BSU that same night without really knowing why or how he came to be at our worship service. He asked Christina what the game plan was going to be for the evening. Christina shared she was going to show a video on slavery today in America, we would pray with each other, sing praise songs, and listen to Aaron preach. This young man told Christina that he would stay for the video, but then he was leaving. At 11 pm, I noticed that he was still there interacting with us. Ten of our students are answering the call to serve on our mission trip to Canada where we will minister to over 200 First Nations Indian children. God has called out another one of our young men and one young woman to serve as our Summer Missionaries this summer. There are 9 students and 2 sponsors attending Engage-church leadership conference this weekend in St. Louis. (A thank you goes out to all of you who helped scholarship 3 of our students for this training.) To summarize these blessings: I have witnessed 16 of our students actively sharing their faith with other students for the specific purpose of seeing their classmates embrace a breathing relationship with Jesus Christ. All these blessings would not be possible without your partnership of praying without ceasing, and giving financial blessings when you learn of our needs. Because of your passion to see this ministry continue to win souls and make disciples the following is a list of prayer concerns and upcoming ministry projects you can intercede with the Father for us. 1. Tyler White, our male summer missionary, needs a Trenton area bed to sleep at nights this summer. (My home is housing Christina and our female summer missionary.) This leaves Tyler with the need of a bed while he serves in our association. Canada Mission Trip needs: (We have begun to purchase supplies and witnessing tools. If God leads you to fund one of these projects, send your contribution to NGRBA office designated Canada.) Action Bibles for teenagers, cost $ Gospel John pocket sized booklets, cost $ more winter hats/mittens. Purchased 110 sets at Dollar General Sat. for $ If you want to reimburse this cost, we will use the donation to purchase other needs. 4. Food supplies. Gallons of Cheese, picante sauce, BBQ sauce, 50 lbs flour, 50 lbs sugar etc... cleaning supplies, toilet paper, paper towels, etc. The reserve we are going to is 100 miles from any store, which means we will be taking in all our supplies for the week for 15 people. Above all keep praying. God is calling out college students to be warriors for HIM and He is especially calling NCMC students to be bold and passionate about sharing His Story. The time is short. Join and support these warriors. HE is worthy to receive the rewards of HIS sacrifice--souls Diann The churches and members of North Grand River Baptist Association express their deepest sympathy to the family of Rev. Jean Osborn. Bro. Jean passed away on Friday, April 26th. His funeral was Tuesday, April 30th at Trenton First Baptist Church. Bro. Jean had served as a former Director of Missions for the association as well as interim pastor for several churches. He was a teacher for the Seminary Extension and received the award for Seminary Extension Director of the Year for 1994 for states West of the Mississippi. He was truly a servant and served in numerous ways. He was preceded in death by his wife Nellie, one son, James Osborn, his parents and one brother. Survivors include a Daughter, Marilyn (Gary) Morrow, Marshall, MO; Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren; 1 Sister, Lois Harp, State of Minnesota. We will miss you Bro. Jean, but we rejoice as we know you are in heaven strolling the streets with Nellie and praising God. Thank you God for sharing Bro. Jean & Nellie with us this side of heaven.

FBC Archery Program The 2012/2013 First Baptist Church winter archery ministries program has concluded with great success. This year was the third season for the program which experienced a huge growth in attendance. We had an average of 35 to 40 participants every Monday night with a peak of 53 on one occasion. Because of the large numbers, Sunday afternoons were also made available throughout most of the season for the shooters. A few other significant positives this year were the addition of many youth shooters and the increase in the number of people that just came to watch. We have also been working with the Grundy County 4H shooting sports program and have hosted a 4 shoot for youths with a few more scheduled on the books for later this summer. Every Monday night the program would begin at 7:00 pm with opening prayer provided by one of the many participants. This would be directly followed by a Welcome speech from the programs co-founder Brandon Spencer. Brandon would then give a 10 to 15 minute devotional on God s Word sticking with the outdoors or sportsman type theme. Pastor Dennis Chesnut and Pastor Don Jahrus filled in a couple of evenings when Brandon was not able to attend. Archery shooting would begin around 7:30 pm. Many of the shooters participated in an eleven week league, but because of the size of the activity center and the way the targets are set up, still more just participated in open shooting. The archery shooting would end around 9:00 pm, but this time was not just for archery shooting. It was a time for prayers, fellowship and uplifting conversations with fellow Christians. To keep hunger from affecting anyone s aim, snacks and drinks were provided every evening as well. We even had one participant go through the plan of salvation and accept Christ as his personal Savior! The season was concluded with a barbeque feed and a fun shoot on April 1 st, but due to the huge amount of food not many could move well enough to shoot their bows! Although this year s season has just ended, we are already preparing for next year with great anticipation! We have received many calls from people interested in participating in the program next season that did not make it this year. Our goal from the very start and always will be, is to get people in the door by using the archery activity. Once people are here, we are going to shoot and have a great time, but they are also going to hear about God and our Savior Jesus Christ. Some, if not most, are people that never attend a regular church or get the opportunity to hear God s Word. Because of the relaxed atmosphere, we seem to be making a connection with a lot of these people! Next year s season will kick off around mid November, but a definite date will be announced as time gets closer. If anyone has any questions about the archery ministries or would like more information, please contact Brandon Spencer. Brandon Spencer Home Phone Cell Phone
