2 Pastor s Corner Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ! I hope you have had time to enjoy some travels this summer and have had a few very restful periods. The unusually hot weather we have had forced me to spend only short periods outside. Because of a skin condition, I bought and wore a wide-brimmed hat when working in the garden or taking our dog outside. Some of my planned outdoor projects are still waiting for a few milder days, and if this year is like last year, we might have another extended summer into September and October. A few days ago, I heard someone on the TV news say: What has happened to people today, even young people, who have the idea that life no longer has value. Truthfully, I do not know for sure. I do think of the video games and many contemporary movies that feature heroes who kill many innocent people, win every fight they come upon, and survive without much more than a scratch. Killing can easily become normalized in people s minds, and they might just act out with this mindset. With little respect for others, some killers today use heavy cars and trucks to mow unsuspecting people down -- any age, any gender, anyone who gets in their pathway. On Route 14, in a driveway, a girlfriend ran over her boyfriend, and ran over him again to make sure he was dead. The adults had been drinking and fighting. Also, in Colorado there was a husband who killed his pregnant wife and their two daughters. The adults had met on Facebook, and he was supposedly the best thing that ever happened to her. In the Bible, God teaches us to love one another, and to be careful to be well-matched in our romantic love and our plans for marriage. It is so obvious that there are hundreds of couples who do not know our Lord, and therefore they have no standards to live by. Sadly, they are tethered to Satan s ways instead of God s love. I want to invite you to my Pre-Advent Bible Study, which will be held at the church on the four Sundays of November, at 6 pm. The one- hour sessions will be informal discussions of the hope, peace, joy, and love that we always plan to experience in each Advent Season. Please join us! I have enjoyed our summer gatherings for worship, coffee hour, and meals. The jokes from the mind of Kurt Horak, the many friendships in our church family, and the good food people provided were wonderful. Also, I am so thankful that the light in the sanctuary has been fixed, so that people can now more easily see the words of our hymns. Hallelujah! God s Blessings! Pastor Larry

4 Lyco Press September October Deacons Duties Transportation Judy Yagel will be the driver for the month of September and October If anyone needs a ride to church please call Judy. The Deacons play BINGO with the residents of the Presbyterian Home the last Wednesday of the month. The Deacons are collecting food every Sunday for the Food Bank at the West End Christian Community Center. Please help us give to our Newberry community - those who are less fortunate than we are - the gift of food. THANK YOU. A world in despair needs churches that care! CENTS-ABILITY OFFERING The last Sunday of every month we receive an offering to help fight the battle against hunger & poverty. Members are invited to contribute a few cents at every meal to donate for this collection. When you bring your offerings to church, all those coins make a joyful noise unto the Lord as they are received. Give generously! Let s start the fall church season by coming to church every Sunday.

Our chaplains are truly the unsung heroes supporting our young men & women who serve our country. They are there to provide comfort, guidance, & hope to those in need. There is a special basket in the lounge or envelopes in the pews for your donations. Thank you for your support.
