T HE W ORD CHILDREN S MEDITATION There are no sermon stories today. Sermon stories will resume November 11. PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION SCRIPTURE Revelation 21:1-6a NT p. 259 John 11:32-44 NT p. 105 The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God! SERMON Love in the Face of Death Rev. Scott Ramsey * AFFIRMATION OF FAITH Brief Statement of Faith In life and in death we belong to God. Through the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit, we trust in the one triune God, the Holy One of Israel, whom alone we worship and serve. 7

8 We trust in Jesus Christ, fully human, fully God. Jesus proclaimed the reign of God: preaching good news to the poor and release to the captives, teaching by word and deed and blessing the children, healing the sick and binding up the brokenhearted, eating with outcasts, forgiving sinners, and calling all to repent and believe the gospel. Unjustly condemned for blasphemy and sedition, Jesus was crucified, suffering the depths of human pain and giving his life for the sins of the world. God raised this Jesus from the dead, vindicating his sinless life, breaking the power of sin and evil, delivering us from death to life eternal. A WORD ABOUT MEDICAID EXPANSION FROM THE VIRGINIA INTERFAITH CENTER FOR PUBLIC POLICY (VICPP) - Because of recent and promising changes in state law, nearly 400,000 uninsured Virginians are estimated to become eligible to gain health care under Medicaid expansion. As the rules have changed, one-on-one assistance is essential to ensuring the insured will get covered. Additionally, State-funded resources that provide individual assistance for the uninsured are limited and stretched. Thus the Virginia Interfaith center for Public Policy (VICPP) intends to galvanize faith leaders to help the uninsured gain access to the new, quality Medicaid coverage now available to adults. If you wish to help, you may contact VICPP Health Care Organizer Dora Muhammad at , ext. 106, or dora@virginiainterfaithcenter.org for more information. 15
