Our loving sympathy and prayers are extended to the family of Ramona Rayle surrounding her death on January 25. In the aftermath of a particularly acrimonious political campaign season, the Faith and Public Policy Committee has invited the Chaplin of the US House of Representatives to address the prospects faith guiding public policy discussion, debate, and formulation in the near future. Our invited guest is Fr. Patrick J. Conroy, S.J., the first Jesuit priest to hold the position. Fr. Conroy was sworn in May 25, He received a Bachelor's Degree from Claremont Men's College in Claremont, California in In 1977, he received a Master's degree in philosophy 8

11 from Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington; in 1979, a law degree from St. Louis University; in 1983, a Masters of Divinity (M. Div.) from the Jesuit School of Theology of Santa Clara University, in Santa Clara, California; and in 1984, a Masters of Sacred Theology (S.T.M.) from Regis College of the University of Toronto. Fr. Conroy says that he intended to become a lawyer and then go into politics, aiming for the United States Senate, but during his first year of law school "had a very dramatic sense of God's call to join the Jesuits. See chaplain.in.house.gov and Wikipedia for further information on the Chaplaincy and on Fr. Conroy. Invite friends and neighbors. A light breakfast will be available. SINGLE SENIORS LUNCH - LPC Single Seniors are invited to the next fellowship gathering which will take place Friday, February 10, in the Chapel beginning at 11:30 am. We deliver the contributions to SHARE. SHARE serves people in our area, and there is a great need for non-perishable foods. Please no open or out-of-date products. SOUPER BOWL OF CARING - This year our youth join thousands of other youth in churches across the county in celebrating the 27 th year of the Souper Bowl of Caring. Twenty seven years ago a Presbyterian Church in South Carolina decided to make Super Bowl Sunday about serving others and addressing the need of hunger. Since that first year, the Souper Bowl of Caring has spread across the country and is even supported by many NFL teams. Over the course of these past 27 years, over $100 million dollars has been raised to combat hunger in our own communities. Following worship Sunday, February 5, the youth will receive contributions for SHARE in the Narthex as you leave the Sanctuary. Join them in filling soup pots with money that will be donated to SHARE. TAIZÉ CONTEMPLATIVE WORSHIP Next Sunday, February 5, at 7:00pm in the Chapel - We will worship with prayers, singing and silence. An excellent way to begin the week. BLOOD DRIVE, SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 5 - The next church blood drive is Sunday, February 5. Please consider giving blood as there is no substitute for blood. It can only come from one place and that's a volunteer blood donor. A growing population is creating an increased 9

12 demand for blood and blood products in our community. Because the need for blood is so great, a consistent inventory is vital. Therefore, it is essential we have a steady stream of volunteer blood donors. Sign up on the church web site or in St. Andrews Hall before and after the church services TODAY. MCLEAN INTERFAITH COALITION - The next workday for the McLean Interfaith Coalition (MIC) with Habitat for Humanity of Northern Virginia will be Friday, February 10, from 8:45 to 3:30. The work site is in Reston where we will be rehabbing an existing home. Volunteers supply their own lunch and Habitat supplies water and tools. Mark your calendars for this important gathering in the life of our congregation. While adults are meeting in fellowship Hall for the Annual Meeting, children from age 4 through middle school will gather in the Chapel for Minute 2 Win It Bible Review games. WOULD YOU LIKE TO SERVE COMMUNION AT LEWINSVILLE? - The Session has opened up this opportunity to anyone who is a member of Lewinsville. Training is required, and we will be offering two such sessions after the 11:00 am service of worship on SUNDAY, February 19 or SUNDAY, March 5. Training will include instructions for serving by intinction and serving the congregation seated in the pews.
