We deliver the contributions to SHARE. SHARE serves people in our area, and there is a great need for non-perishable foods. Please no open or out-of-date products. DEACONS FUND - Following worship TODAY, the Deacons will receive contributions for the Deacons Fund in the Narthex as you leave the Sanctuary. The Deacons Fund is used to provide short-term assistance to those in our community who have emergency needs. EXTENDED SERVING OF THE COMMUNION OF THE CHURCH - TODAY our Elders and Deacons will bring communion to those who are unable to be with us in worship. This is an extension of the blessing and fellowship of the Lord s Table. PEACE & GLOBAL WITNESS OFFERING RECEIVED TODAY: - A gift to the Peace & Global Witness Offering enables the church to promote the Peace of Christ by addressing systems of injustice across the world. Individual 11

12 congregations designate 25% of the Offering to connect with the global witness of Christ's peace. Presbyteries retain 25% for ministries of peace and reconciliation. The remaining 50% is used by the Presbyterian Mission Agency to advocate for peace and justice in cultures of violence, including our own, through collaborative projects of education and Christian witness. The 25% designated by Lewinsville will go to the No One Left Behind Organization. This group was established in October 2013 by Matthew Zeller. It's mission is to ensure the U.S. Department of State upholds its promises of Special Immigrant Visas (SIV) to combat zone translators who worked with U.S. and NATO troops during the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, as well as provide financial and housing assistance to individuals and families who have emigrated to the United States under the SIV program. Offering envelopes are available in the pew racks. LOOKING FOR SOPRANOS - Lewinsville s Chancel Choir is looking for women interested in joining the choir. The chancel choir rehearses weekly on Thursday evenings from 7:30 to 9:00 pm and sings frequently for the 11:00 am Sunday service. Music is an essential role in worship and added female sopranos will help strengthen the glorious sound of our choir and help lift and inspire our congregation. The award was presented by the Greater McLean Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday, October 2, during the 9 th Annual Suits & Speakers Event. The event is the Chamber s opportunity to recognize our Community and Business Awardees. GRACE AND JUSTICE ON DEATH ROW - Sunday, October 14, 2018, 12:30 2:00 pm at Annandale United Methodist Church. You are invited to a conversation with author Brian Stolarz and Rev. Cynthia Johnson-Oliver and Rev. Chenda Innis Lee. Brian Stolarz is a criminal defense attorney with LeClairRyan in Alexandria, VA. For over 8 years, he worked pro bono to free Alfred Dewayne Brown, an African American man falsely accused of killing a police officer, from Texas' Death Row. His book, Grace and Justice on Death Row, is a faith journey about his representation of Dewayne. Join us as we dive deeper into Brian s story, detailed in his book, of how that experience both challenged his faith and transformed his understanding of the American criminal justice system. BRIDGING THE PARTISAN DIVIDE TO SOLVE CLIMATE CHANGE Join us for a Faith and Public Policy Breakfast and Program Saturday, Otober 20, 8:30am. Citizens' Climate Lobby is a nonpartisan grassroots advocacy organization that advocates for a policy known as carbon fee and dividend. Two volunteers from CCL's Fairfax County chapter, George Kralovec and Sarah Karush, will describe how they each came to see this policy as the best solution to climate change, despite their divergent political philosophies. They'll outline CCL's bridge-building, respectful approach to lobbying Congress and the methods used by the group's nearly 500 chapters to build political will for climate action in their communities. CONVERSATIONS BETWEEN PARENTS AND ADULT CHILDREN ON DIFFICULT SUBJECTS - October 21, 12:15 in the chapel - light lunch will be provided. Families often find it difficult to talk about aging. It can be hard for older parents and/or their adult children to discuss the aging parents needs. Alternately, conversations about the steps adult children should be taking to preparing for their own aging can also be difficult to initiate and sustain. This presentation will discuss and provide some tips about how to initiate such conversations and topics such discussions might cover. The speaker is Rebecca Porter, LCSW-C, Licensed Clinical Social Worker with the Jewish Social Service Agency (JSSA), who has spoken at Lewinsville several times on topics related to aging. RISE AGAINST HUNGER (formerly known as Stop Hunger Now) is having a Meal Packaging event on November 3 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in McLean. Volunteers assemble rice, soy, dehydrated vegetables, and essential vitamins and minerals, into small meal packets to be distributed to children and families in hunger-stricken areas throughout the world.
