1 Baptist bulletin MONTHLY NEWSLETTER OF THE WEST ACTON BAPTIST CHURCH NOVEMBER Massachusetts Ave. Acton, MA Pastor's Word Dear Members and Friends of WABC, We were created to be free! Our worth is not found in what we have, what we wear, or in our popularity. Our worth is found in the God who created us and who wants us to experience the full wonder and abundance of God s creation. It is only when we appreciate what God has given us and live our lives on a mission to be good stewards of these gifts that we can experience the freedom God always intended us to have. For four weeks, beginning on November 5, we will explore our freedom in Christ and celebrate God s abundance which fuels our freedom. We will learn how to become more faithful stewards as we explore what it means to: be free in God s abundance; be free to be rich; be free from anxiety; and be free to take hold of the life that really is life. Soon, you will receive in the mail an invitation to make a commitment of support to West Acton Baptist Church s ministries for the coming year. Then, on November 19 th, in morning worship, you will have an opportunity to offer to God your commitment card for These cards will be brought forward during worship as an offering to God, a symbol of our commitment to God s work through West Acton Baptist Church and a reminder that because of God s abundance we are free to take hold of the life that really is life. First Timothy reminds us to set our hopes on God, living richly in a deeper sense, thus storing up for [ourselves] the treasure of a good foundation for the future (1 Timothy 6:19). In Greek the same word means both treasure and foundation. So this quality of living is a priceless treasure and also the solid foundation upon which we can build our individual lives and our life as a community of faith. In your personal prayers and as you gather in fellowship with others, please remember to invite God s guidance as we consider how God is calling us to Live Free! There were 10 towns represented, 1 school participated, 15 faith groups participated & 1 supper program that walked Seeking a Minister of Christian Education The Board of Christian Education is seeking a part-time Minister of Christian Education who has a passion for ministry with children and youth. This person will work closely with the pastor to design and implement a program of Christian formation. Complete job description available on our website at Please help us advertise this exciting opportunity! - The Board of Christian Education: Lori Bruneau, chair, Nancy Dodge, Stephanie Dodge, Elise Erikson, Wendy Maxfield, Ruth Thatcher, and Pastor Laura. Intergenerational Activities: Our November Activity will be a Food Drive at Roche Bros. on November 12th from 12pm-2pm. The Acton Food Pantry will supply us with printouts of items needed for us to hand out to patrons when they enter the store & we will collect items they purchased when they exit the store. Please sign-up to participate, sign-up sheet available in office or following worship in fellowship hall. Hanging of the Greens is on Sunday, December 10 th. Following worship we will have a light lunch & decorate our church. We will also be doing a Cookie Swap; if you would like to participate bring in 5 dozen of 1 kind of cookie to swap with other participants. Throughout the month of November we will incorporate a "Tree of Abundance" during our Children's Time. This tree will have an 'abundance' of fruit to be picked by the congregation. On the back of each piece of fruit will be an item(s) for you to purchase for the White Cross quota our church received. This quota contains items needed for the Massachusetts Baptist Multicultural Ministries. All items donated will be brought forth during worship on November 19th & 26th and are due no later than November 26th. Items will be distributed at their holiday parties in early December.

Special thanks to Idylwilde Farms for donating the apples for our pies & crisp. Mark your calendars: Jewelry, Craft & Bake Sale, Saturday, November 4th from 10am-2pm. Donations of gently used jewelry & accessories greatly appreciated. Baked Goods for the Bake Sale gladly accepted! Holiday Baskets will be filled & delivered on Friday, November 17th at 10am in the DEN. Donations of individual packaged items & individually wrapped baked goods gladly accepted. See Nancy Dodge for more information. We have received & accepted our White Cross Quota. This year items will go to Mass. Baptist Multicultural Ministries. The need has grown so our list has grown. Therefore, we have decided to put up a Giving Tree/Tree of Abundance for the congregation to pick a piece of fruit and purchase the item(s) on it and return it to the church no later than November 26th. See September newsletter or our website for more details Trustees The elevator is working and has passed the state inspection. Thanks to the work and continued care of our elevator by Above and Beyond Elevator Company. Thanks also to Dick O Neil who worked out the issue with the door closer that was not connecting due to some settling in the door frame. Dick was able to use his grinder to make the contacts line up. Thanks to Jim Richards who sanded and painted the walls of the lower level stairway (parking lot side of the building). There had been some flooding in this area a few months back and water was causing the plaster to bubble. Jim also painted the fire door from the kitchen to the back hall. Thanks Jim! The gutters that caused some of the flooding will be cleaned in November after the leaves have come down from trees in the area. New contracts will soon be given to the building users. New this year is a written page highlighting the need for all users to clean up and put chairs and tables back after using or removing them from the social hall. Thanks you to Carol Peabody who did weeding between the education wing, and the former Annex. This area has been forgotten but the weeds continue to grow there! It is much improved! 6 Church Chatter Oktoberfest As WABC's representative to West Acton Village Merchants Assoc., I would like to thank all who helped out Saturday, October 14th at our games and booth: Lori Bruneau, Olivia Bruneau. Doug Taylor, Zach Taylor, Precious Isibor, Nancy Emerson Lombardo, Desiree Taylor, Ruby Taylor, Nancy Hoover and helpers from Highrock Church and Zach's friend Tyler Robb. And Nancy Dodge for all her help prior to the event. It was very successful. We made a profit of $364.27!! ~ Ruth Thatcher On September 27, 2017 the Household Goods Building at 530 Main Street, Acton was dedicated to Barbara & Ira Smith who founded the organization. On Saturday, October 21 the Samuel Stillman Association held their Fall Gathering at FBC Bedford.
