3 Ornaments by Lance Bennett I thank my God in all my remembrance of you, always in every prayer of mine for you all making my prayer with joy, because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now. (Philippians 1:3-5) As I sit in my living room at night, I have a nice view of our family Christmas tree. As I mentioned last week, I enjoy seeing the lights gleaming from the tree. Their soft, warm glow brings me comfort and peace each evening. The lights are not all I see on the tree. Hanging from each branch are ornaments that Misty, Davidson and I carefully placed upon the tree a couple of weeks ago. These ornaments are special to us. They remind us of significant events that have occurred in our lives. There are ornaments that Misty and I received when we were newly married that commemorated our first Christmas together. There are ornaments that we received when Davidson was born celebrating his first Christmas. There are ornaments that Davidson has made during preschool and elementary school that remind us of those sweet times as he grew up. There are also ornaments given to us by dear friends who have blessed our lives throughout our years together. These friends live in Tallahassee, Chattanooga, and, of course, several of you who have shared life with us over the past ten years. We have laughed together, cried together, worshipped together, served together, and experienced the blessings of fellowship in God s family. As we see these ornaments, we are reminded of God s goodness to us and the blessings he has provided through the friends who have loved us so well. Ornaments are more than baubles that hang on a tree. They are reminders of those events in our lives that God has used to shape and mold us in our journey with Him. They are reminders of those friends who have loved us, encouraged us and shared moments in life together that will always be remembered with love and affection. Ornaments are signposts of a life lived for the glory of God and the community He has continually provided that has blessed us over and over. As you look at your tree this evening, I hope you see more than ornaments. I hope you see the working of the One who has blessed you with those moments and relationships throughout your life that have led you where you are today. Enjoy some time around your tree this evening. Cherish your ornaments and remember the blessings of God.
