Cass Street, Wabash, IN THE PASTOR S PAGE Contemplation and Celebration As April begins, we enter the season of Eastertide. April 3 rd we will host the community Good Friday service at 12:10 and we will have an evening service in the chapel as well. This is a time to remember the death of Jesus so we can be prepared to celebrate his resurrection. Easter services at 8 and 10 on Easter will focus on celebrating that Jesus is risen. I am very excited to celebrate this season of joy with you. I am hopeful that, before the celebration, we will have spent time in the forty days of Lent reflecting on how Christ has assured us of our place with God. I pray that you come to Holy Week with a sense of anticipation, looking for where God is going to show new life in and around you. I am looking for that new life too. This is our fourth Easter with you. I am hopeful that, together, we will make the resurrected Christ real to the people in our community by being a people who example, together, love and service. Jesus message was simply, Love God by loving people who are made in God s image. Since that means everyone, we have a big job to do. In May, we have two opportunities to come together and show love. The first is May 3 rd when we will be joining with Friends and Treaty Church of Christ to celebrate the culmination of. It is not often that congregations put aside denominational differences and worship together but we are. I am very excited about this. Worship will be at Legacy Hall, Honeywell Center that day. If you need childcare (age 4 and under) we will be providing for our families but will need reservations so that we know how many people to prepare for. The second opportunity I want to make sure you get on your calendars now is a May 16 Change the World day. We have invited our UMC partner churches in the area to join us that day to serve God by serving people. Details are still being arranged and more information will be forthcoming. Please get this on your calendar and plan to be there so that, together, we show forth the face of the resurrected Christ for the transformation of Wabash and the world. Shalom, Rev. 2 Spring is here, and with it comes playtime outside. Which makes me think of Summer Camp. Are you interested? Do your kids want to go to camp? Information is starting to come to the church office about dates for 2015 Summer Camp at Epworth Forest and Camp Adventure. Scholarships are available. VBS is also on the horizon, and coming fast! Volunteers are needed now to serve in many ways. If you are a science nut, we are looking for someone to do 2 science experiments with the kids. Are you crafty? How about helping with 2 crafts. Do you have a hard time sitting still? We need a couple people to play games with the kids. Handy in the kitchen? We need some snack preparers and servers. Want to help, but still haven t found your spot? We need some shepherds who can help kids move from station to station, and just be ready to shepherd lost sheep back into their groups. Been around the block a few times? Wise souls needed to just be with the kids, Go to their classes and just BE THERE sharing your wisdom and your time. Help the kids as they discuss their questions. 3 As we approach the end of our second school year it is exciting to know that enrollments for the upcoming school year are almost complete and we are anticipating 4 classes filled to capacity for next year! As we prepare for the new school year we are looking to add teaching resources, and have several items that we would love to add to our curriculum. During the months of April and May, Wesley Academy will be sponsoring fundraising activities that we hope you will support, as we raise funds for our Wish List. Be sure to watch for more announcements in the bulletin about our Spring Flower Power and Papa John s fundraising events. Our Christian book BOOK remarks club will meet on April 21 at 12:30 at the Great Wall Asian restaurant. We will be discussing the book, Ten Things I Learned from Bill Porter by Shelly Brady. Bill Porter was born with cerebral palsy but managed to become a top salesman for the Watkins Company by going door to door and developing a very loyal clientele. It was not easy for him but he persisted where many people would have given up. We were not able to obtain this book from the Indiana Humanities Organization so if you need help purchasing this book via internet, please let Sondra Harrell know right away.
