1 MARCH 2018 First United Methodist Church of Wabash, Indiana F I R S T E D I T I O N Mission Statement To make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. Our Covenant Together: Love. Lead. Teach. Transform. Dear Church, THE PASTOR S PAGE 110 N. Cass Street, Wabash, IN Growing up in Indianapolis, the month of May was Race month. We had time trials and qualifying, carb day, all culminating in the greatest Spectacle in Racing. But this is March and we are in North Central Indiana. So what does that have to do with anything? As I look at this month I feel like I need to say, Buckle up, friends, we are going to be going fast! We begin the month by dedicating our God s Mission, Our Vision Team on March 4. This Capital Campaign has been something I have said needs to happen for the last five years. We are beginning the process and commissioning the leadership Sunday March 4. The Saturday (March 10) after that, we will have our ADAPT consultation! I am so excited! More than 90 members of this congregation have worked in one way or another to see the information that will be shared and the adaptations we will make over the coming eighteen months. The last week of March we will enter Holy week and prepare to celebrate Easter. I celebrate the blessing of being with you on this journey. Shalom, Rev. Kurt Freeman Senior Pastor - Rev. Kurt Freeman Pastor of Visitation - Rev. John Cook office.wabfirstumc@cinergymetro.net Telephone: (260)

2 UPCOMING CLASS IN APRIL The Worship Committee will be offering two public speaking classes with Roseanne Turner as the leader. The classes will be on Sunday, April 22nd and April 11:30 a.m. Please bring a favorite storybook and a Bible to share your favorite scripture. Thank you. Kari Halderman & Sondra Harrell Worship Co-chairs SAVE THE DATES Our church has several different initiatives starting to ramp up; ADAPT and our Capital Campaign, along with our weekly events. 3 YOUTH NEWS FROM NICK! Nick Jacobson

4 If you are interested in helping with Sunday School, I still have openings to help out. This would be a great opportunity to get to know the children in our church and to show your love for them. FACT is going well. The children are learning how to lead the worship service and about the different parts of the worship service. They have made blankets to pray over so they can be presented to the newborn babies in our congregation. We could use additional volunteers for Wednesday night. Jessie Bair-Wilkening will be having sign-up sheets available for VBS soon. VBS will be July 22-26,2018 from 5-7 pm. This will be another great opportunity to use your talents within our children s ministries. Please let Jessie know if you can help. We are very excited for VBS this year. 8 Capital Campaign Kickoff Sunday First United Methodist Church March 4, 2018 What is the Capital Campaign about Anyway? Our campaign is not about guilt, pressure, manipulation, hidden agendas, or gimmicks. It is a campaign of the heart! It is about building building devoted, mature Christians. Building active stewardship into our lives. Building ministry and outreach. And, yes, building a center for our ministry. It is about changed lives. It is about obedience about our Yes response to God s challenge. It is committing ourselves to the vision that God has set before us. It is about building stewardship into every area of our lives. It is grappling with the fact that I own nothing, but I am to manage everything. It is about knowing Jesus Christ and making Him known to others. So, what can we expect in this money-raising effort? Here s what WILL NOT happen: Q & A No one will ask you to attend a campaign event and expect you to fill out a commitment card at that moment. Here s what WILL happen: All of us will be challenged to ask God what He intends for us to give to this endeavor. The Bottom Line Scriptural stewardship challenges all of us to wisely use our time, abilities, and financial resources. Christ calls us to a life of discipline and one that is committed to Him. The more we focus on Him, the more our lives can be used for His purpose. As our ministry grows, so, too, will our people grow in maturity and in outreach. The campaign will be successful if each person is challenged to grow spiritually.
