1 OCTOBER 2017 First United Methodist Church of Wabash, Indiana F I R S T E D I T I O N Mission Statement To make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. Our Covenant Together: Love. Lead. Teach. Transform. THE PASTOR S PAGE 110 N. Cass Street, Wabash, IN If everything goes as planned, by the time you read this article, my family and I will be working on the house we have chosen in town. Our new address is 558 N Miami Street. We just finished our sixth year here at Wabash 1st UMC. Anyone who knows anything about UMC pastors and appointments knows that purchasing a house in our seventh year is, well, unusual. The reason I am willing to do this is because I believe this congregation is in the midst of shifting to become more missional in nature. We are reaching out to our community. We are embracing the least and the lost. We are caring for our neighborhood. I am very excited about this congregation s trajectory. Passion for mission is vital for any church or organization to succeed. I believe Wabash 1st UMC is sitting on the precipice of something profound: the rediscovery and profound implementation of our mission. I pray we continue to move forward. In order to do that, we need to put a few things in place. We will be continuing our FCJ renewal process. We need prayer for that and those involved in leading. We will continue praying walking our neighborhood and trying to bridge relationships with our neighbors. We will need more and more help as we try to significantly and effectively reach our neighborhood. One of the needs the FCJ 2.0 phase 1 showed us that we need to do is develop a Discipleship Pathway--an intentional plan to connect people from strangers to God all the way to missionaries. Our congregation needs to work on developing that plan AND we need to work together to place every person who calls this congregation home on a path from disconnectedness to lighting the world. Purchasing a house places us nearer to our congregation s mission field. I am excited to work together with you to make new disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. I believe the next few years will be very exciting and transformative for our congregation and community. I am looking forward to being with you in it. Shalom, Rev. Kurt Advent will be here before we know it. This year I would like your help in developing our Advent worship times. Please share a tradition (that I can share with the whole congregation) that enriches your Advent and Christmas celebrations. Friday January 19- Saturday January 20, 2018, is our FCJ 2.0 phase 2 weekend. Questions? See me. Senior Pastor - Rev. Kurt Freeman Pastor of Visitation - Rev. John Cook office.wabfirstumc@cinergymetro.net Telephone: (260)

3 I would like to thank everyone that has volunteered for FACT beginning October 4. The after school program begins at 3:30. We will need many volunteers to do homework, read, and do activities with the children attending. Many children in our community need to know that they are loved and cared for and this ministry is much needed. Families are invited to join their children for worship beginning at 5:30 with a meal to follow at 6:00. The children s Christmas Program will be starting soon. Look for sign ups to begin early November with practice for the program beginning in November during the Sunday school/jr. Church times. The Christmas program will be on Christmas Eve with the time to be announced at a later date. I still have some dates available for 9:00 Sunday school teachers for K-2 and 3-5 age groups and 10:00 nursery coverage. If you would like to help teach a class or cover the nursery, please let me know.
