1 The Los Altos Life Los Altos Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) Haines NE Albuquerque, New Mexico Website: April 5, 2017 Volume 32 Issue No. 7 The Pastor s Pen This Sunday is Palm Sunday or the beginning of Holy Week, which includes Maundy Thursday (The Last Supper), Good Friday (Commemorating the Crucifixion of Jesus Christ), with Lent ending on Saturday and finally Easter Sunday (Celebrating the Resurrection of the Lord). This is an exciting time for Christians and non-christians alike. I am anticipating we will see visitors here for the first time, and we will greet them with our usual love and welcoming smile. Additionally, we also experienced a phenomenal increase in sharing and viewing on Facebook for both Amaris and Kathy with the special music and Beth's children's chat. How awesome is that?! We had two couples visit this past month, one of which learned about our church from one of the 300 tri-fold flyers I distributed within the local neighborhood along with my wife Donna and our kiddos Amaris and Jeremias. We also had a clean-up day on Saturday the 25th of March and filled the dumpster to the top with plenty of trash and dead vegetation. I'm also happy to mention Carl Hime and I met with Birga Alden from Love Inc. who is extremely excited about implementing a trial-run cooking class at Los Altos for those in need. This class will teach underprivileged people/families how to shop for groceries and how to cook healthier meals with minimal cost. We also met with the representative from Digital Bible, who is currently reviewing our building use agreement to determine if they can meet our requirements and if what we can offer fits their needs. Their mission is to "work toward the day when everyone can access the Bible in the language and medium of their choice. Finally, I had the privilege to meet with the cub scout leaders, who are extremely excited about coming to Los Altos. It appears that they are on schedule for sometime in June. Welcome Cub Scouts! Sometime in the fall, or maybe sooner depending on their schedule, I would like to introduce their leaders/volunteers and the kids to the congregation. Your Pastor, Anthony P. Lopez Our pastor, Anthony Lopez, has an open door policy, welcoming all an opportunity to visit with him about their spiritual needs, questions and/or concerns. He will be available Fridays and Saturdays from 1:00-4:00 pm. Please call ahead to schedule a day and time. However, should you have an emergency please don't hesitate to drop by or call. It s time to order Easter Lilies! If you would like to buy a lily to adorn the Sanctuary on Easter Sunday, please contact Sylvia Brady or the church office by this Sunday, April 9th. We will be stuffing Easter Eggs on Sunday, April 9, right after the worship service. We welcome and appreciate all help! Look for Edie after church to get started. Thank you!
2 Feed & Seed Thursday Night Bible Study Fellowship and supper at 5:30 pm, Study starts at 6:00 pm Join us around the table! April 6, 2017 (brown bag) April 13, 2017 (brown bag) The Prayer Corner Those requesting special prayers: Bina Caris,Virgie Key, Coral Stupp, Mary & Dean Wright We will photograph all families Saturday, May 20, and Sunday, May 21 from 10am - 6pm here at Los Altos. Our directory won't be complete without you. You are welcome to bring your pets. Invite anyone else you may know who would be interested in a complementary 8x10 photo. Watch our bulletins and newsletters for more information in the coming weeks. Kristie will be starting the scheduling for photo shoots on Sunday, April 23. Week of Compassion offerings help those in need abroad and in the USA. Los Altos Christian Church donated $660 to the Week of Compassion Special offering this year.

4 We are pleased to announce that we are hosting 4 guitar concerts at Los Altos during Holy Week: April 9th-3:00pm April 11th-6:30pm April 13th-7:30pm April 15th-6:00pm Come and be blessed by the beautiful music during this special time of year! The Public Academy for Performing Arts (PAPA) guitar ensembles will be performing an evening of beautiful and diverse music. Music selections range from J.S. Bach, Johann Pachelbel to Ben E. King and Simon and Garfunkle. We will also be debuting some student compositions heard for the very first time in front of a live audience. PAPA is a rigorous middle school/ high school based around curriculum in the performing arts. It will be a great night of music you won t want to miss! Performance: Tuesday April 11 th at 6:30 pm As you all know I am a frustrated "stand-up comic. I like for people to laugh at what I say and enjoy my non-stop dry humor. How is that for a first line to get your attention? This last week I actually had someone say at a meeting that she loved my dry, English humor. I am not sure what she was trying to accomplish, but never-the-less we got through the meeting and she did not get what she wanted, but she did get what she needed. Very frankly, I have meetings like that all the time. I think that is why I like church meetings; that sort of gamesmanship never occurs. Now to the point, it seems that everything is happening at once and you are responding. We have been able to return to the alignments specified in the LACC by-laws because we do have a Minister and he has had time to settle in, and the Board can now take its role to heart regarding long-term planning and program accountability. That does not mean that board members will not be involved in Ministry and Missionary Team Leadership activities, but it does mean that Dick's and Bob's and other's hard work will no longer be set aside in favor of an action plan. We have reached a point where we could return to the organization seen as favoring Ministry and Missionary work and individual accountability. And as I would like to say "sustainability" Carl L. Hime Jr. Moderator Los Altos Christian Church-DOC
