4 Prayer of Confession As our Redeemer, we come to you, O God, as people of ashes and dust. In all of our planning and scheming to get ahead and provide for our own future, when our plans crumble and we crash and burn, we complain. We have forgotten that you alone provide for our every need and we continue to walk the dark paths of willful ignorance when you have given light to the world. Forgive us, God of grace, and help us to walk with you so that we would not continue to perish, but have abundant and eternal life through Jesus Christ, our Lord. 5 Scripture Reading: John 3:14-21 In the same way that Moses lifted the serpent in the desert so people could have something to see and then believe, it is necessary for the Son of Man to be lifted up and everyone who looks up to him, trusting and expectant, will gain a real life, eternal life. This is how much God loved the world: He gave his Son, his one and only Son. And this is why: so that no one need be destroyed; by believing in him, anyone can have a whole and lasting life. God didn t go to all the trouble of sending his Son merely to point an accusing finger, telling the world how bad it was. He came to help, to put the world right again. Anyone who trusts in him is acquitted; anyone who refuses to trust him has long since been under the death sentence without knowing it. And why? Because of that person s failure to believe in the one-of-a-kind Son of God when introduced to him. This is the crisis we re in: God-light streamed into the world, but men and women everywhere ran for the darkness. They went for the darkness because they were not really interested in pleasing God. Everyone who makes a practice of doing evil, addicted to denial and illusion, hates God-light and won t come near it, fearing a painful exposure. But anyone working and living in truth and reality welcomes God-light so the work can be seen for the Godwork it is. Message: A Ten Foot Pole Pastor Rob * Please rise in body or spirit. 5

Is Prayer always knowing how to say the rights words? Maybe not. People throughout the world experience prayer in many ways, and we will look at a few of those over four weeks in Lent. This week, Praying with Beads. Can Presbyterians do that? In the Mission Room. 2) Faith Lessons on the Death and Resurrection of the Messiah, focuses on the last week of Jesus life, his death and resurrection, and the Holy Spirit s visit on Pentecost. Being a follower of Jesus does not mean staying away from evil. It means confronting it face to face just like Jesus did every single day and through his resurrection. In the Emeritus Room. 7

It s a great time of energetic worship with Gretchen, interactive storytell ing and weekly activities that allow our children to apply their hands, heads and hearts in an act of worship or missions. Its 45 minutes of fun and fellowship. Join us! Communication has been called the gateway to progress. With that in mind, your Session wants you to know about and understand the steps being taken to help First Presbyterian Church of Northville respond and adapt to the changing world around us. Over the next several weeks, the Transitional Communication Team will share information about proposed plans and give you an opportunity to respond to those plans. Stay tuned...it s an exciting time! Spring Dine With 9. Our spring dining groups will meet three time from April through June. The members of each group pick the dates they will get together to share a potluck meal. Dine with 9 is a great opportunity to get to know our church family members better while enjoying a delicious meal. You can get more information and sign up during coffee hour in Boll Hall. Thursday, March 26th is the date for the next New Horizon outing. We will take an early lunch (11:00 to 11:30) locally at Bravo in the Haggerty corridor of restaurants. Then on to the Detroit Institute of Arts to view their special exhibit of the art of Diego Rivera painter of the "Detroit Industry" mural in the main hall of the institute, and of his wife, Frida Kahlo, also a gifted artist. Meet at Boll Hall at 10:45am...tour fee is $12 with $5 to drivers. Sign-up in Boll Hall Sundays after service through March 22nd. We are in need of volunteers to serve coffee after church on the following dates: 4/12, 5/3, 5/10 and 5/31. There are also a couple dates in July and August if you know what your summer schedule is at this moment. Please consider spending a couple hours on any of the listed Sundays to set up and server coffee so that we can all enjoy reconnecting with friends. 9 Men s Bible Discussion and Study. All brothers are welcome to join in on our Wednesday night discussion. We will be studying the Gospel of Mark. Plan on some very lively and frank conversations each Wednesday night at 7pm in the Emeritus Room. Make sure to bring your favorite Bible. Volunteers meet the Second Wednesday of each month in the parking lot across from the preschool doors on Cady St. We depart at 9:45 am and return around 1:30pm. Serving the homeless and less fortunate can be a very moving experience for those seeking to strengthen their faith. This is a great place to stretch your volunteer legs and a perfect place for new and existing members to see what FPCN is doing in the Detroit community. All of those who desire to assist in this ministry, contact Earl Eiben at or chaz531@sbcglobal.net. Pickleball is back at First Presbyterian Church! We play on Thursday* evenings from 7:30 pm until 9:30 pm. We also play Saturday mornings from 10am-noon. This is open to all church members and their friends and we encourage you to come join us. It s fun, fast, great exercise and a good time to meet church members you may not know.
