1 Royal Oak First United Methodist Church 320 W Seventh St Royal Oak, Michigan (248) Fax: (248) office@rofum.org February 7, :00 am Traditional Worship The People of God Gather Welcome in the name of our Lord. As the Prelude begins, let us quiet our voices and cell phones as we prepare our hearts and spirits for worship. Prelude The Ticking Clock A. Zinlinskis Procession Choral Offering * Call to Worship People: People: People: We have seen the light of God; on high mountains of celebration and in the delight of a child s embrace. We have seen the light of God; through the bitter scorn of betrayal and the searing chasm of grief. We have seen the light of God; with eyes that have been shaded, with eyes that have been opened, with eyes that have been blinded. We have seen the light of God. * Hymn #173 (UMH) Christ Whose Glory Fills the Skies ROFUM Chamber Orchestra **** * Passing of the Peace * Fellowship Hymn Spirit Song (Hymnal #347) (please stand next to someone while we sing) Jesus, O Jesus, come and fill your lambs. (repeat) Welcome and Community Notes Ritual of Friendship
2 Time with Children Dismissal to Sunday school will follow Time with Children. For those attending for the first time, parents should accompany children to the Narthex to meet the leaders and sign in. Following Worship, parents may pick up their children from their classrooms. Pastoral Prayer The People of God Speak and Listen to God Unison Prayer of the People Merciful and loving God: your Spirit has touched us and made us alive; you have fashioned us into a community of faith. You have awakened us to love you, discern your ways and live in obedience, love our neighbors, and hear the cry of the needy. In-as-much as we have lived this out, you have made us a witness to the people and a catalyst to transform this world into a place of love and peace. For all this, we give you thanks. Where we have fallen short: we ask forgiveness and turn to you for help. We yearn for the completion of your work in us. In the name of Christ Jesus, our Lord, let it be so. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen. Choral Amen The People of God Renew Commitment * Hymn #304 (UMH) Easter People, Raise Your Voices ROFUM Chamber Orchestra
3 Presentation of Tithes and Offerings Offertory Holy, Holy, Holy Franz Schubert Sanctus Choir * The Doxology (Hymn #95) * Prayer of Dedication **** The People of God are Met by God s Word Scripture Luke 9:28-36 About eight days after saying this, he climbed the mountain to pray, taking Peter, John, and James along. While he was in prayer, the appearance of his face changed and his clothes became blinding white. At once two men were there talking with him. They turned out to be Moses and Elijah and what a glorious appearance they made! They talked over his exodus, the one Jesus was about to complete in Jerusalem. Meanwhile, Peter and those with him were slumped over in sleep. When they came to, rubbing their eyes, they saw Jesus in his glory and the two men standing with him. When Moses and Elijah had left, Peter said to Jesus, Master, this is a great moment! Let s build three memorials: one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah. He blurted this out without thinking. While he was babbling on like this, a light-radiant cloud enveloped them. As they found themselves buried in the cloud, they became deeply aware of God. Then there was a voice out of the cloud: This is my Son, the Chosen! Listen to him. When the sound of the voice died away, they saw Jesus there alone. They were speechless. And they continued speechless, said not one thing to anyone during those days of what they had seen. (MSG) Sermon Seeing Christ Rev.
