2 October 28, :30 am Enter with a spirit of preparation as we gather ourselves for worship Prelude: Variations on A Mighty Fortress Is Our God David Johnson Welcome and Announcements Choral Introit *Call to Worship *Processional Hymn: All Who Hunger, Gather Gladly No. 419 Ritual of Friendship ONE: On our journeys of life we meet here in this sacred space. ALL: We affirm that we are people of the Way, we give thanks that today our paths cross. ONE: Let us greet each other as we journey together towards fullness of life. Let us greet the one on our left and the one on our right with peace and love. *Greeting of One Another The Gathering Bell Please return and remain standing for the Responsive Reading. *Responsive Reading: (Psalm 126) ONE: When the LORD restored the fortunes of Zion, we were like those who dream. ALL: Then our mouth was filled with laughter, and our tongue with shouts of joy; then it was said among the nations, "The LORD has done great things for them." *Those who are comfortably able may stand. 2

3 ONE: The LORD has done great things for us, ALL: and we rejoiced. ONE: Restore our fortunes, O LORD, ALL: like the watercourses in the Negeb. ONE: May those who sow in tears reap with shouts of joy. ALL: Those who go out weeping, bearing the seed for sowing, shall come home with shouts of joy. First Reading: Job 42:1-6 1 Then Job answered the LORD: 2 You know that you can do all things, and that no purpose of yours can be thwarted. 3 Who is this that obscures design by words without knowledge? Therefore, I have uttered what I have not understood, things too wonderful for me which I did not know. 4 Hear, and I will speak; I will question you, and you will make me know. 5 I have heard you with my own ears, and now my eye sees you! 6 therefore I recant and change my mind concerning dust and ashes. Anthem: When the Lord Restored Zion David and Jean Perry Children s Moment Prayers of the People Silent Prayer The Lord s Prayer Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen. 3

4 Choral Prayer Response Invitation to Giving Offertory: Jig William Selby *Doxology: (tune) No. 47 Praise God from whom all blessings flow, Praise God all creatures here below, Praise God above, ye heavenly host, Creator, Christ, and Holy Ghost. Amen *Dedication of Gifts *Hymn: In Suff ring Love No. 212 Second Reading: Jeremiah 31:7-9 7 For thus says the LORD: Sing aloud with gladness for Jacob, and raise shouts for the chief of the nations; proclaim, give praise, and say, Save, O LORD, your people, the remnant of Israel. 8 See, I am going to bring them from the land of the north, and gather them from the farthest parts of the earth, among them the blind and the lame, those with child and those in labor, together; a great company, they shall return here. 9 With weeping they shall come, and with consolations I will lead them back, I will let them walk by brooks of water, in a straight path in which they shall not stumble; for I have become a father to Israel, and Ephraim is my firstborn. Sermon: Whether It is the Case Rev. Jacob Poindexter 4
