Teach us in all things to seek first your honour and glory. May we perceive what is right have courage to pursue it and grace to accomplish it, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. 4 Readings & Psalm 1 Thessalonians Paul, Silvanus, and Timothy, To the church of the Thessalonians in God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ: Grace to you and peace. 2 We always give thanks to God for all of you and mention you in our prayers, constantly 3 remembering before our God and Father your work of faith and labour of love and steadfastness of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ. 4 For we know, brothers and sisters beloved by God, that he has chosen you, 5 because our message of the gospel came to you not in word only, but also in power and in the Holy Spirit and with full conviction; just as you know what kind of people we proved to be among you for your sake. 6 And you became imitators of us and of the Lord, for in spite of persecution you received the word with joy inspired by the Holy Spirit, 7 so that you became an example to all the believers in Macedonia and in Achaia. 8 For the word of the Lord has sounded forth from you not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but in every place where your faith in God has become known, so that we have no need to speak about it. 9 For the people of those regions report about us what kind of welcome we had among you, and how you turned to God from idols, to serve a living and true God, 10 and to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead Jesus, who rescues us from the wrath that is coming. Matthew Then the Pharisees went and plotted to entrap him in what he said. 16 So they sent their disciples to him, along with the Herodians, saying, Teacher, we know that you are sincere, and teach the way of God in accordance with truth, and show deference to no one; for you do not regard people with partiality. 17 Tell us, then, what you think. Is it lawful to pay taxes to the emperor, or not? 18 But Jesus, aware of their malice, said, Why are you putting me to the test, you hypocrites? 19 Show me the coin used for the tax. And they brought him a denarius. 20 Then he said to them, Whose head is this, and whose title? 21 They answered, The emperor s. Then he said to them, Give therefore to the emperor the things that are the emperor s, and to God the things that are God s. 22 When they heard this, they were amazed; and they left him and went away. 5 My hours have changed! From November onwards I will be in the office on Thursday afternoons, and 9am 5pm Fridays. This week will also be a little different: I will be working Monday 9-5, Thursday and Friday evenings. Liz Olie will be in the office on Thursday mornings. Thank you Liz. Cassandra 5

6 Notices and Parish News: Coming up: October 29 Hospital Chaplaincy Sunday and 500 th Anniversary of Martin Luther s 95 th theses at Wittenberg in 1517 November 4/5 All Saints day Melbourne Cup weekend 12 9am Service followed by our AGM. There will be one service only. Hospital Chaplain Sunday October 29 Guest preacher: Rev Dawn Treloar, Chaplain at Royal Melbourne hospital, Supervisor of Supervised Theological Field Education and Examining Chaplain. Tuesday Circle October 31 The Tuesday Circle friends will next meet on Tuesday 31st October (instead of 7th November as this is a Public holiday). The following date will be 21st November. We meet at until 12 noon in the Parish Centre and welcome new members. Lay Participation Roster November 5 Anne Harding will be preparing the next roster soon covering the weeks from November 19 to February inclusive. Please let Anne know of any dates you will be unavailable by Sunday November 5 as well as your availability for the Christmas Services. 7 Great Impending TOMATO JAMBOREE November 5 Those who have been waiting as you all should- for the great extravaganza of Tomato planting that is about to occur should note that the weather is getting warmer and your beds should be prepared. Turn over the soil, add manure and/or compost and weed. On Sunday 5 th November after the a.m. service Tomato seedlings will be available, so come prepared with your pots and bags and a clear conscience. Varieties: Jim The Greek (big plants and fruit) Tommy Toes (cherry type salad fruit) Borghese ( Italian style like a Roma) Black Russian (juicy and dark) Anna s Long Life (firm medium size, good keeping) Striped Green(Supposedly the healthiest of them all) There is no charge for these but your conscience alone will help you contribute to the Church coffers. Graham Scott ( ) AGM November 12 If you have not already sent your AGM reports to Cassandra please do so as soon as possible. We want to circulate the reports on November 5 and she needs time to collate and edit each report. The AGM itself will be held after a 9am service on November 12. Thankyou from Susanne Firstly, a big thank you to the two Rogers for locuming whilst I was on LSL. They spoke most highly of the people of St Paul s! Secondly, to everyone who kept the wheels turning here and for the successful Fair! What a team! Thirdly, thank you for your prayers. Mum s funeral was a wonderful celebration of a much loved woman. With grateful thanks. Susanne Farewell Diana Coultas Diana will be moving closer to family in Kyneton and will be greatly missed here at St Paul s. Blessings on you Diana as you make this big transition. I am sure the church family in Kyneton will welcome you with open arms. (and they are called St Paul s too!)
