4 Readings & Psalm Isaiah Have you not known? Have you not heard? Has it not been told you from the beginning? Have you not understood from the foundations of the earth? 22 It is he who sits above the circle of the earth, and its inhabitants are like grasshoppers; who stretches out the heavens like a curtain, and spreads them like a tent to live in; 23 who brings princes to naught, and makes the rulers of the earth as nothing. 24 Scarcely are they planted, scarcely sown, scarcely has their stem taken root in the earth, when he blows upon them, and they wither, and the tempest carries them off like stubble. 25 To whom then will you compare me, or who is my equal? says the Holy One. 26 Lift up your eyes on high and see: Who created these? He who brings out their host and numbers them, calling them all by name; because he is great in strength, mighty in power, not one is missing. 27 Why do you say, O Jacob, and speak, O Israel, My way is hidden from the Lord, and my right is disregarded by my God? 28 Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable. 29 He gives power to the faint, and strengthens the powerless. 30 Even youths will faint and be weary, and the young will fall exhausted; 31 but those who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint. 5 Mark As soon as they left the synagogue, they entered the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John. 30 Now Simon s mother-in-law was in bed with a fever, and they told him about her at once. 31 He came and took her by the hand and lifted her up. Then the fever left her, and she began to serve them. 32 That evening, at sunset, they brought to him all who were sick or possessed with demons. 33 And the whole city was gathered around the door. 34 And he cured many who were sick with various diseases, and cast out many demons; and he would not permit the demons to speak, because they knew him. 35 In the morning, while it was still very dark, he got up and went out to a deserted place, and there he prayed. 36 And Simon and his companions hunted for him. 37 When they found him, they said to him, Everyone is searching for you. 38 He answered, Let us go on to the neighbouring towns, so that I may proclaim the message there also; for that is what I came out to do. 39 And he went throughout Galilee, proclaiming the message in their synagogues and casting out demons. Lunch Club Today! Our first Lunch Club for 2018 today in the Parish Centre, following the Start Up Sunday services. If you have any food preferences, allergies or intolerances, please talk to Laura Dean or Rosemary Miller, and we can include these in the menu. Cost - by donation. Tuesday Circle Tuesday Circle will meet next Tuesday 6th Feb at 10.30am in the Parish Centre for the first time this year. All are welcome. We need more Sunday School teachers again! With recent changes to the Sunday School team, we are yet again on the hunt for more Sunday School teachers. This is a great opportunity for adults and teenagers alike (for example those looking for Duke of Ed. or volunteering positions) to get involved with the wonderful team teaching our children each week. Please contact Cassandra in the office if you are willing to donate your time less than 8 times a year to help with this important ministry. Fund Raising Team Members Wanted Would you like to be involved in a passionate and creative team that is vital to the funding of our ministry here, at St Paul s? Would you like to be part of the brainstorm that brings about events such as the St Paul s Patronal Festival extravaganza and the Parish Fair? Look no further! St Paul s is renowned for our wonderful fundraising endeavours. These projects are vital to our continued ministry. Already, plans are in progress for the Patronal Festival (23 June 2018). Bruce and Susanne are looking for more members to join their team. If you would like to get involved please give Susanne, Bruce or Cassandra a call. 7 God bless you as we say goodbye to you Greg Thank you for coming amongst us as our organist/pianist this past year. It s been great to have a fine musician to accompany both choir and congregation in our worship. Our prayers go with you and Caroline, as you venture into the unknown with your health and we pray that healing to wholeness will happen. Lay Participation Roster Anne Harding will be preparing the next roster soon covering the weeks from February 11 to April 15 inclusive. Please let Anne know of any dates you will be unavailable by Sunday February 4th. Anyone who would like to join the roster please talk to the Vicar or call Anne as we are in need of new helpers for all roles. This includes Sidespersons, Morning Tea Servers, Readers, Collection Counters and Intercessors. Anne's details are available in In Contact or through the parish office. Computer Waste Last Week of Offer Have you got some old computers you want to get rid of? St Paul s office is sending some old and disused computers, screens and other electronic equipment to the electronic waste recycling facility. There will be space in Andrew Flint s car to take other people s electronic waste. Please contact Andrew if you would like to take advantage of this opportunity. Flower and Brass Roster The Flower and Brass Roster for the next three months will be in the Narthex on Sunday 21 st. Please let Barbara Alderton know of any changes or queries.
