May we live in harmony with all those who share this sacred earth and be thankful. Amen. We pray for the World: For those who mourn loved ones, for the injured and distressed, and for all those committed to the work of peace. For all refugees and asylum seekers, particularly those who are children. For all those living in war zones, including Syria and Yemen. For all those fearing and dealing with natural disasters, particularly drought, and fire. For all those who suffer due to community prejudice or apathy. We pray for the worldwide Church: St Paul s Kindergarten staff, children and parents; Anglican Church of Australia (The Primate Abp Philip Freier, Anne Hywood, The General Secretary, The General Synod & the Standing Committee ); Diocese of The Northern Territory (Bp Greg Anderson, Clergy & People); Melbourne Grammar School (Roy Kelley, Principal; Hans Christiansen, William Peacock, Malcolm Woolrich, Chaplains); Holy Trinity Hampton Park (Ian Savage); and Canterbury Presbyterian - Rev d Grant Lawry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. 17 His winnowing-fork is in his hand, to clear his threshing-floor and to gather the wheat into his granary; but the chaff he will burn with unquenchable fire. 18 So, with many other exhortations, he proclaimed the good news to the people. 19 But Herod the ruler, who had been rebuked by him because of Herodias, his brother s wife, and because of all the evil things that Herod had done, 20 added to them all by shutting up John in prison. 21 Now when all the people were baptized, and when Jesus also had been baptized and was praying, the heaven was opened, 22 and the Holy Spirit descended upon him in bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven, You are my Son, the Beloved; with you I am well pleased. 5

The office will now be open 9am 1:30pm most Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. The office will not be staffed on Fridays, Saturdays or Sundays. The parish thanks Kaye Rands, Margaret Irvine and Liz Olie for their vital support and volunteering in the office. Cassandra will be in the office on Mondays and Thursdays. Calling all: Sunday School Teachers or Assistants: We are in great need of more Sunday School teachers and assistants. If you might be interested in joining this rewarding team, please do contact Cassandra or Rachel. Summer School January 15-16, 2019 St George s Anglican Church, Malvern, invites you to their Summer School which costs $60 for one day or $100 for both. This year the speakers will be Alison Asquith ( Beyond looking: Orthodox Icons, Anglicans and Prayer ) and Dr Merryl Blair ( Beyond Sunday School what is really in the Hebrew Scriptures? ). For more information, see the brochures and payment slips in the Narthex. Lunch Club February 3, 2019 Lunch Club will be held on the first Sunday of February (Start up Sunday), instead of the second. Volunteers needed for the pharmacy school (and fund raising!) We need volunteers for a workshop at the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical sciences, Monash University, teaching pharmacy students to interview older people. Crucial logistics are as follows: Friday 15th February: am to 12 pm; 8 people needed Tuesday 28th May: 9 am to pm; 22 people needed Please speak to Laura Dean (Kaspen) if you can participate in either or both days, and more information will be provided. You get to help train the next generation of pharmacists and...st Paul's gets a donation from Monash in appreciation of your efforts! Win-win. 6

Though the usual rules on long life / packaging apply, Mission House is in dire need for your donations. Anything offered helps alleviate hunger somewhere in Melbourne. The first collection of 2019 will be on the 15 th of January. Children s Books Found Three new children s books were found in the pews before Christmas. Please leave a message at the parish office if they are yours. First Tomato Graham Scott wishes to inform members of St Pauls Tomato Cooperative (inc.) that he picked his first Black Russian on the 1 st of January, 2019 and wishes to claim bragging rights. How are yours going? Umbrellas Wanting To Go Home Please collect any umbrellas in the narthex that belong to you.
