We pray this in the Spirit of the One who bore the cost of love, enduring to the end. 4 ELIZABETH-ANNE IS LEAVING ST PAUL S It was an extremely hard decision to make. I have loved my work at St Paul s and it has been an ongoing pleasure to to be a part of it for the past four and a half years. ea s last Sunday will be 12th April (the Sunday after Easter) where we will say goodbye and thank you for her wonderful ministry as organist and Director of Music. ea s new appointment is to St George s Malvern ST PAUL S MARKET & GARDEN FAIR - 9 May 2015 Planning is progressing well. Seven (7) commercial stalls are booked and media planning is underway. How can you help? 6 6 READINGS AND THE PSALM Psalm 19 Exodus Then God spoke all these words: I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery; you shall have no other gods before me. You shall not make for yourself an idol, whether in the form of anything that is in heaven above, or that is on the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, punishing children for the iniquity of parents, to the third and the fourth generation of those who reject me, but showing steadfast love to the thousandth generation of those who love me and keep my commandments. You shall not make wrongful use of the name of the Lord your God, for the Lord will not acquit anyone who misuses his name. Remember the sabbath day, and keep it holy. For six days you shall labour and do all your work. But the seventh day is a sabbath to the Lord your God; you shall not do any work - you, your son or your daughter, your male or female slave, your livestock, or the alien resident in your towns. For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but rested the seventh day; therefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day and consecrated it. Honour your father and your mother, so that your days may be long in the land that the Lord your God is giving you. You shall not murder. You shall not commit adultery. You shall not steal. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbour. You shall not covet your neighbour s house; you shall not covet your neighbour s wife, or male or female slave, or ox, or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbour. 1 Corinthians For the message about the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and the discernment of the discerning I will thwart. Where is the one who is wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? For since, in the wisdom of God, the world did not know God through wisdom, God decided, through the foolishness of our proclamation, to save those who believe. For Jews demand signs and Greeks desire wisdom, but we proclaim Christ crucified, a stumbling -block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, but to those who are the

7 called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. For God s foolishness is wiser than human wisdom, and God s weakness is stronger than human strength. John The Passover of the Jews was near, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. In the temple he found people selling cattle, sheep, and doves, and the money-changers seated at their tables. Making a whip of cords, he drove all of them out of the temple, both the sheep and the cattle. He also poured out the coins of the money-changers and overturned their tables. He told those who were selling the doves, Take these things out of here! Stop making my Father s house a market-place! His disciples remembered that it was written, Zeal for your house will consume me. The Jews then said to him, What sign can you show us for doing this? Jesus answered them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up. The Jews then said, This temple has been under construction for forty-six years, and will you raise it up in three days? But he was speaking of the temple of his body. After he was raised from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this; and they believed the scripture and the word that Jesus had spoken.. MINISTRY TEAMS IN A NUTSHELL: Ministry Teams are set up to do specific tasks or to take care of an aspect of parish life. Any ministry or activity carried out in the mane of the parish, whether internal or Outreach, is accountable to Parish Council. Examples of teams: Christian Formation/Education, Worship/ Liturgy, Communications, Pastoral Care, Stewardship, Fundraising, Children and Youth Ministry. In this time of discernment, is there an area of ministry or activity that you feel you could contribute? In the Narthex you will find a brief explanation of each of the teams. Please come and speak to Susanne - she would love to hear from you! THE COMMUNICATION TEAM needs someone who has skills in: graphic design, website and social media. Is this you? Meetings occur only about four times a year. Please speak to Susanne. CHRISTIAN FORMATION TEAM needs people who are interested in assisting to organise small groups to explore faith/spirituality; what to study in Lent and Advent; baptism, first communion and confirmation preparations; Sunday school and J2A. if this is an area of interest to you, please speak to Susanne THE WORSHIP/LITURGY TEAM needs someone who has an interest in liturgy in increasing lay participation, looking at different forms of worship eg family service; and encouraging the musical talents of the congregation. If this is of interest to you, please speak to Susanne MALAWI FRIENDS NEED OUR HELP: Anyone remember Elmas Mhone who was with us at St Paul s while learning how to sew and teach women who wanted to sew? And then Jenifer, Liz, Ros Sahhar and Susanne went to Malawi to encourage them in this program. Some of the women have been affected by the dreadful flooding in Malawi in January when 178 people lost their lives. If you can assist financially with rebuilding the foundations (cement) of their homes, they would be most grateful. Please leave envelope clearly marked MALAWI in the offertory plate. 8

9 CARITAS CORNER: For future events and more information, please consult the Caritas Noticeboard located in the Parish Centre WALK THE PILGRIM WAY: You are invited to Walk the Pilgrim Way, a reflective exhibition of Camino photography, by Earl Carter, 08 March to 28 March at St Paul s Cathedral. A special preview will be held today, Sunday 8 March at the Cathedral, at 4:30pm, leading into Evensong at 6pm. (This is a free event, but sale proceeds support the work of the Brotherhood of St Laurence). Pick up a flyer in the Narthex for more information. POTS, POTS, POTS: Help needed for POTS, POTS, POTS for St Paul s Market and Garden Fair. People are potting up small coloured plants, e.g. pansies, and taking cuttings. If we can gather enough people for this, it would be a special thing to do. I m remembering a very lovely poem in French, some small groups and lots of different music contributed by lots of different people on lots of different instruments over the past 4 ½ years.... if you have just the right thing up your sleeve, do come and share it with everyone on April 12! If you light a candle and say a prayer during church on Sunday, your prayer continues all week. Candles that are lit on Sunday mornings are relit at morning and evening prayer each day, and during the Wednesday Eucharist and Meditation services. The people you pray for today will be held up to God in prayer throughout the week.
