4 READINGS Song of Songs 3.1-4A Upon my bed at night I sought him whom my soul loves;i sought him, but found him not; I called him, but he gave no answer. * I will rise now and go about the city, in the streets and in the squares;i will seek him whom my soul loves. I sought him, but found him not. The sentinels found me, as they went about in the city. Have you seen him whom my soul loves? Scarcely had I passed them, when I found him whom my soul loves. I held him, and would not let him go until I brought him into my mother s house, and into the chamber of her that conceived me. Responsorial Psalm 63 Andrew Moore 2 Corinthians For the love of Christ urges us on, because we are convinced that one has died for all; therefore all have died. 15 And he died for all, so that those who live might live no longer for themselves, but for him who died and was raised for them. 16 From now on, therefore, we regard no one from a human point of view; * even though we once knew Christ from a human point of view, * we know him no longer in that way. 17 So if anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation: everything old has passed away; see, everything has become new! 18 All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation; 19 that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, * not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting the message of reconciliation to us. 20 So we are ambassadors for Christ, since God is making his appeal through us; we entreat you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. 21 For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. 5 John Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene came to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from the tomb. 2 So she ran and went to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved, and said to them, They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid him. 3 Then Peter and the other disciple set out and went towards the tomb. 4 The two were running together, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first. 5 He bent down to look in and saw the linen wrappings lying there, but he did not go in. 6 Then Simon Peter came, following him, and went into the tomb. He saw the linen wrappings lying there, 7 and the cloth that had been on Jesus head, not lying with the linen wrappings but rolled up in a place by itself. 8 Then the other disciple, who reached the tomb first, also went in, and he saw and believed; 9 for as yet they did not understand the scripture, that he must rise from the dead. 10 Then the disciples returned to their homes. 11 But Mary stood weeping outside the tomb. As she wept, she bent over to look * into the tomb; 12 and she saw two angels in white, sitting where the body of Jesus had been lying, one at the head and the other at the feet. 13 They said to her, Woman, why are you weeping? She said to them, They have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they have laid him. 14 When she had said this, she turned round and saw Jesus standing there, but she did not know that it was Jesus. 15 Jesus said to her, Woman, why are you weeping? For whom are you looking? Supposing him to be the gardener, she said to him, Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have laid him, and I will take him away. 16 Jesus said to her, Mary! She turned and said to him in Hebrew, * Rabbouni! (which means Teacher). 17 Jesus said to her, Do not hold on to me, because I have not yet ascended to the Father. But go to my brothers and say to them, I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God. 18 Mary Magdalene went and announced to the disciples, I have seen the Lord ; and she told them that he had said these things to her. 6 NOTICES During August St Paul s will once again be enjoying our Dinner -for-eight evenings. The dinners are great fun and a wonderful opportunity to get to know fellow members of the parish in a relaxed atmosphere, while at the same time raising funds for our church. The details are: Dates: 6th, 13th and 20th August Guests: $50/head donation; BYO Hosts: $15 from each donation for costs; the number of guests invited is up to you. Both guests and hosts are needed, so if you would like to be part of this event please contact Jill Bales (sjbales@bigpond.com) or Laura Dean (laura.dean@monash.edu or ) by 31st July 2016 to let them know: whether you would like to be a host or a guest; which date you would prefer; and any food allergies you may have. Alternatively please give this information to Jill or Laura after the Sunday service. They will respond to both hosts and guests with further information on the logistics of the event. We will also farewell Birgit Schartmann from the choir on the 21 st of August, as she returns to Germany. We will have the opportunity to thank Birgit on the day. SUNDAY SCHOOL IN TERM 3: For the winter term at Sunday School we will be finding out about some of the Old Testament Minor Prophets. There will be two 'Kids In Service' Sundays: the 7th August and 11th September. We would welcome anyone interested in teaching a pre-prepared lesson on any Sunday in Term 3, especially if you have a craft or song to teach the children which might fit in with our theme.
