4 Readings Song of Songs 3.1-4a Upon my bed at night I sought him whom my soul loves; I sought him, but found him not; I called him, but he gave no answer. I will rise now and go about the city, in the streets and in the squares; I will seek him whom my soul loves. I sought him, but found him not. The sentinels found me, as they went about in the city. Have you seen him whom my soul loves? Scarcely had I passed them, when I found him whom my soul loves. I held him, and would not let him go until I brought him into my mother s house, and into the chamber of her that conceived me. Psalm 63 2 Corinthians For the love of Christ urges us on, because we are convinced that one has died for all; therefore all have died. 15 And he died for all, so that those who live might live no longer for themselves, but for him who died and was raised for them. 16 From now on, therefore, we regard no one from a human point of view; even though we once knew Christ from a human point of view, we know him no longer in that way. 17 So if anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation: everything old has passed away; see, everything has become new! 18 All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation; 19 that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting the message of reconciliation to us. 20 So we are ambassadors for Christ, since God is making his appeal through us; we entreat you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. 21 For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. 4

5 John Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene came to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from the tomb. 2 So she ran and went to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved, and said to them, They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid him. 3 Then Peter and the other disciple set out and went towards the tomb. 4 The two were running together, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first. 5 He bent down to look in and saw the linen wrappings lying there, but he did not go in. 6 Then Simon Peter came, following him, and went into the tomb. He saw the linen wrappings lying there, 7 and the cloth that had been on Jesus head, not lying with the linen wrappings but rolled up in a place by itself. 8 Then the other disciple, who reached the tomb first, also went in, and he saw and believed; 9 for as yet they did not understand the scripture, that he must rise from the dead. 10 Then the disciples returned to their homes. 11 But Mary stood weeping outside the tomb. As she wept, she bent over to look into the tomb; 12 and she saw two angels in white, sitting where the body of Jesus had been lying, one at the head and the other at the feet. 13 They said to her, Woman, why are you weeping? She said to them, They have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they have laid him. 14 When she had said this, she turned round and saw Jesus standing there, but she did not know that it was Jesus. 15 Jesus said to her, Woman, why are you weeping? For whom are you looking? Supposing him to be the gardener, she said to him, Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have laid him, and I will take him away. 16 Jesus said to her, Mary! She turned and said to him in Hebrew, Rabbouni! (which means Teacher). 17 Jesus said to her, Do not hold on to me, because I have not yet ascended to the Father. But go to my brothers and say to them, I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God. 18 Mary Magdalene went and announced to the disciples, I have seen the Lord ; and she told them that he had said these things to her. Next Week s Readings: Tenth Sunday after Pentecost 2 Samuel Psalm 14 Ephesians John Incumbency Committee The incumbency committee has concluded interviews and has indicated to the Bishop their proposed next incumbent. We are now waiting for the candidate and the Bishop to respond. An announcement may be at least one month away. The committee appreciates the prayer and support of our faith community. 5

6 Notices and Parish News An Introduction to the Organ July 29 To encourage people to apply for the organ scholarship (watch this space for audition times!) there will be An Introduction to the Organ. Stick around after the service on Sunday 29 July 2018 to learn about how the organs works, all the different sounds it makes and to even have a shot at playing it. If you re lucky, you might even get to have a look inside this mystery box. Camberwell ShowTime Presents Snowed Inn August 3 11 Lexie Rough is performing in Camberwell Showtime from the 3 rd to 11 th August this year. She would love you to come. Lee Choral Evensong August 19, 6pm We at St Paul s Canterbury are invited to join the congregation of St Paul s Cathedral, Melbourne for Evensong on Sunday 19 th August at 6pm, where prayers will be said on our behalf. Please let the office know if you intend to attend. Dinner-For-Eight August 11, 18 and 25 During August, St Paul s will once again be enjoying Dinner-for-eight evenings. The dinners are a wonderful opportunity to get to know fellow members of the parish in a relaxed atmosphere, while at the same time raising funds for our church. The details are: Dates: 11th, 18th and 25th August Guests: $50/head donation; BYO wine. Hosts: $15 per donation for costs; the number of guests you entertain is up to you. Both guests and hosts are needed, so if you would like to be part of this event please Jill Bales (sjbales@bigpond.com) or Laura Dean (Kaspen) (laura.dean@monash.edu) to let them know whether you would like to be a host or a guest, and which date you would prefer. Please do this as soon as possible (and definitely by August 5, 2018). Jill or Laura will respond to both hosts and guests with further information on the logistics of the event. Bon appetite! New Assistant Bishop October 6 The Rev d Kate Proud is to become Bishop at the Oodthenong Episcopate which covers the North and West growth areas of Melbourne and Geelong. The consecration will take place on Saturday 6 th October, St Paul's Community Fair A Spring Fair October 20 Wendy Bell has designed a beautiful poster to advertise our Fair on real estate sign boards - now we need sites for the boards! Please let Laura know if you can have a board erected on your property. Joanne Carter is kindly helping with selecting and pricing items for the 'Treasure not Trash' stall - if you have good quality items which no longer fit with your life please donate them (in a box if possible for easy transport) to this stall. We will be storing the items in the garage. Laura 6

7 Malawi Listens! Our young members have written to the young people in the Malawi Parish we have helped and Father Jailosi has just received them. Evidently it has caused a deal of activity as they are now working on sending something back. Thanks and congratulations to the J2A group and others. Creative Dance Classes Creative Dance Classes for pre-school children will be starting in the Parish Centre on Friday mornings from July 20. All are welcome. For further information please phone Karen Robotis Collecting Stamps We have received a note from ABM head Office thanking us for the 2kgs of stamps that we sent to them last year. As they only sold 5.5kgs during this period few have been collected this year. We thank the congregation members who contributed to this project, especially those who gave stamps that were collected over many years by old friends. We still have more stamps to send so please keep collecting for this worthy cause. They request we leave an edge of 0.5cm around stamp if possible. A Trip to Thailand - Teaching/Mission opportunity Do you know of anyone interested in 2 weeks of teaching basic bible knowledge / Anglican church life/aspects of Christian living, at a Karen Anglican bible school in NW Thailand in Sept/Oct 2018? Qualifications not essential, however you will love sharing your knowledge and experience. You will need to be self-funded. For further details contact Andrew Flint. New Alarm Sensors Installed Please note: the Choir Vestry and Vicar s Vestry have motion sensors installed. Please only enter via the Choir Vestry door and disarm the alarm immediately. Upon leaving, once setting the alarm, please leave via the Choir Vestry door without delay as remaining in this area will set off the alarm. Thank you.
