CLOSING: Steve Dyott. -Announcements- SIGHT & SOUNDS BUS TRIP St. Mark s UMC has partnered with the First Baptist Church of Easton to go Sight & Sound Theater to see the show Jesus on Wednesday, April 10 th. Leaving Easton around 9:30 am, we will travel via chartered bus to Hershey Farm Restaurant for a family style luncheon (fried chicken & baked ham) then travel to the Sight & Sound Theater in Lancaster, PA to catch a matinee show & return to Easton around 8:30 pm. The cost of the trip is $110 and includes the show, lunch, tax & tips. The cost is $110/person & is due no later than February 16 th. 5 HOLY YOGA Tabitha Circle is hosting a session of Holy Yoga led by trained instructor Phyllis Johnston on Feb 4th in Fellowship Hall 6:30-7:45pm. This alllevels class is open to all Men & Women! Lee Royer SMALL GROUP STUDY Join us starting in February for a new Bible Study offering, Christian Doctrine and Apologetics. The multi-week course will be in the format of seminar discussions led by John Taylor on Thursdays, 1:00-3:00pm in Room 155 beginning February 7 th. The main focus of this in-depth course will be What do Christians believe? The Christian doctrine (what we teach) tells us how & why what we teach has evolved from the ancient Israelites to Christ, to the Church Fathers, to modern Theologians. Apologetics (The logical defense of the Christian faith) tells us how best to use Christian doctrine to defend our faith from attacks by competing worldviews that seek to destroy our faith and culture. Annual Valentine s Dinner The 4 th Annual Valentine s Day Dinner, sponsored by the United Methodist Men will be held at the church Fellowship Hall on Sunday, February 10, 2019 beginning at 12:15 pm.

8 Annual Valentine s Dinner The 4 th Annual Valentine s Day Dinner, sponsored by the United Methodist Men will be held at the church Fellowship Hall on Sunday, February 10, 2019 beginning at 12:15 pm. The $40.00 per couple price includes salad, choice of entrée (petite filet, chicken breast or crab cake), baked potato, broccoli, beverage, rolls, butter & dessert. The dinner is open to all married couples as well as singles at $20.00 each. Dinner will be catered by Old Mill Deli Catering. The UM Men s famous bible trivia will again be played. Sign-up in the Gathering Area by Sunday, February 3 rd with your names & entrée choice. Payment due the day of the dinner. Weather cancellation date is Sunday, February 17 th. Thinking about joining St. Mark's? To join the church you are required to attend a new member orientation with Pastor Ed. The orientation lasts for about 1 ½ hours. You will learn about the basic history of Christianity, Methodism, St. Mark s history, different ministries in the church and last but not least what is expected from you as a member. We hope you can attend our next membership class on Wednesday, February 6, 2019 at 6:30 p.m. in the conference room. A sign-up sheet can be found in the Gathering space.

9 The United Methodist Women (UMW) Board of St. Mark s UMC, while completing one of the requirements of the Peninsula-Delaware Conference Mission Criteria for 2018 for going green, realized that St. Mark s could be more proactive in caring for God s creation, the earth He has entrusted in our care. While investigating all the ways to Go Green we decided to expand St. Mark s recycling efforts by purchasing four 20 gallon blue recycling cans to be places in needed area around the church including a seven gallon can in the choir room. Easton s Public Works list of acceptable vs. unacceptable materials will be posted above each recycle can. Please empty containers of all food/fluid substances & quickly rinse if possible. These cans have been placed at designated locations. Please join St. Mark s & the UMW by being environmentally friendly & recycle any items deemed recyclable. -NOTES-

11 Continuing our mission project with Operation Christmas Child, we would like to try something new this year at St. Mark s UMC. In addition to packing a shoebox on your own, we will be collecting new items to place inside shoeboxes throughout the year. Then in November, we will have a Church Packing Party! Each month, we will follow the OCC s year-round gift ideas calendar & will be asking for specific donations. Themed items are strategically scheduled to a month when the items are normally on sale in stores. For example: January is Hats, Gloves & Scarves; August is School Supplies. Savvy shoppers know that they can impact more children around the world by looking for shoebox items throughout the year. It s also easier on the wallet, & less stressful then trying to fill a shoebox during the holiday season. A child will probably only get one box in their lifetime & they deserve a box full of good, new items. A collection basket has been placed near the coat rack in the church lobby for donations. This is our BIG fundraiser for the year. Tickets are on sale now, $7 for adults, children under 2 are free. Please contact the preschool office for more information or stmarkspreschooleaston@gmail.com OPEN HOUSE St. Mark s Preschool will kick off registration for the school year with an Open House on February 4 from 9:30-11:00. Please come ask questions, visit our classrooms, and speak to other parents. Our program is offered M/W or T/Th for our 2 year olds, M-Th or T,W,Th for our 3 year olds and M-Th or M-F for our 4 year olds. All classes are ½ days from 9-12pm. Don t miss out on the opportunity to enroll your child or grandchild. Our students enjoy chapel time, swim lessons, music, Spanish classes and much more.
