The Vision of St. Mark s United Methodist church is to inspire people of all ages, through acts of love and service, to know Jesus Christ. ST. MARK S UNITED METHODIST CHURCH 100 Peachblossom Road Easton, Maryland fax 3 rd Sunday of Easter 9:30 Worship for April 15, 2018

WELCOME PRAISE & WORSHIP O For a Thousand Tongues to Sing O for a thousand tongues to sing my great Redeemer s praise, the glories of my God and King, the triumphs of his grace. the triumphs of his grace. My gracious Master and my God, assist me to proclaim, to spread through all the earth abroad the honors of thy name, the honors of thy name. Jesus! The name that charms our fears, that bids our sorrows cease; tis music in the sinner s ears, tis life, and health, and peace, tis life, and health, and peace. He speaks, and listening to his voice, new life the dead receive; the mournful, broken hearts rejoice, the humble poor believe, the humble poor believe. Hear him, ye deaf, his praise, ye dumb, your loosened tongues employ; ye blind, behold your Savior come, and leap, ye lame, for joy, and leap, ye lame, for joy. Welcome Let s walk together for a while and ask where we begin To build a world where love can grow and hope can enter in, To be the hand of healing and to plant the seed of peace, Refrain: singing welcome, welcome to this place. You re invited to come and know God s grace. All are welcome the love of God to share cause all of us are welcome here; All are welcome in this place. Let s talk together of a time when we will share a feast, Where pride and power kneel to serve the lonely and the least, And joy will set the table as we join our hands to pray. Refrain. Let s dream together of the day when earth and heaven are one, A city built of love and light, the new Jerusalem, Where our mourning turns to dancing, every creature lifts its voice. Refrain.

OPENING PRAYER CATCH-UP WITH JESUS! Children s Ministry Time MINISTRY HAPPENINGS! MEET & GREET YOUR NEIGHBORS JOYS & CONCERNS OFFERINGS OF TITHES AND GIFTS Majesty Smith/Garrard DOXOLOGY page 697 Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; praise him, all creatures here below; praise him above, ye heavenly host; praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen. READING FROM THE NEW TESTAMENT 1 Peter 4:8-11 page 1060 This is the Word of the Lord.. THANKS BE TO GOD! MESSAGE Open the Door of Hospitality Rev. Missy Rekitzke CELEBRATION OF HOLY COMMUNION Pastor: Christ our Lord invites to his table all who love him, who earnestly repent of their sin and seek to live in peace with one another. Therefore, let us confess our sin before God and one another. CONFESSION AND PARDON Merciful God, we confess that we have not loved you with our whole heart. We have failed to be an obedient church. We have not done your will, we have broken your law, we have rebelled against your love, we have not loved our neighbors, and we have not heard the cry of the needy. Forgive us, we pray. Free us for joyful obedience, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Pastor: Hear the good news: Christ died for us while we were yet sinners; that proves God's love toward us. In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven!

In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven! All: Glory to God. Amen. THE GREAT THANKSGIVING The Lord be with you. And also with you. Lift up your hearts. We lift them up to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give our thanks and praise. It is right, and a good and joyful thing, always and everywhere to give thanks to you, Almighty God, creator of heaven and earth. And so, with your people on earth and all the company of heaven we praise your name and join their unending hymn: Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest. Holy are you, and blessed is your Son Jesus Christ. By the baptism of his suffering, death, and resurrection you gave birth to your church, delivered us from slavery to sin and death, and made with us a new covenant by water and the Spirit. On the night in which he gave himself up for us, he took bread, gave thanks to you, broke the bread, gave it to his disciples, and said: "Take, eat; this is my body which is given for you. Do this is remembrance of me." When the supper was over, he took the cup, gave thanks to you, gave it to his disciples, and said: "Drink from this, all of you; this is my blood of the new covenant, poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me." And so, in remembrance of these your mighty acts in Jesus Christ, we offer ourselves in praise and thanksgiving as a holy and living sacrifice, in union with Christ's offering for us, as we proclaim the mystery of faith. Christ has died; Christ is risen; Christ will come again. Pour out your Holy Spirit on us gathered here, and on these gifts of bread and wine. Make them be for us the body and blood of Christ, that we may be for the world the body of Christ, redeemed by his blood. By your Spirit make us one with Christ, one with each other, and one in ministry to all the world, until Christ comes in final victory and we feast at his heavenly

banquet. Through your Son Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit in your holy church, all honor and glory is yours, almighty Father, now and for ever. Amen. Now, as children of God let us SING the Lord s Prayer together: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. GIVING THE BREAD AND CUP Prayer after receiving: Eternal God, we give you thanks for this holy mystery in which you have given yourself to us. Grant that we may go into the world in the strength of your Spirit, to give ourselves for others, in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen. CLOSING SONG If We Are the Body It's crowded in worship today As she slips in trying to fade into the faces The girls teasing laughter is carrying farther than they know Farther than they know Refrain: But if we are the body Why aren't His arms reaching? Why aren't His hands healing? Why aren't His words teaching? And if we are the body Why aren't His feet going? Why is His love not showing them there is a way? There is a way, there is a way A traveler is far away from home He sheds his coat and quietly sinks into the back row The weight of their judgmental glances Tells him that his chances are better out on the road. Refrain. Jesus paid much too high a price For us to pick and choose who should come
