Funeral Notice Marjorie Davidson died this week, at age 95. Her funeral will be held at the Allison Monkhouse chapel in Mornington at 10:00 on Wednesday 19 April. WANTED We are still in need of seedling punnets for our fete, and old butter/margarine containers. If you would like to donate these, they can be left in the church foyer. Thank you. 8 OUR LABOUR IN THE LORD IS NOT IN VAIN Over the last six weeks I have enjoyed being a part of one of the Bible study groups working through N.T. Wright s study series, Surprised by Hope Rethinking Heaven, the Resurrection, and the Mission of the Church. It has been great to be a part of the group, and N.T. Wright has given us some great perspectives and encouragement. Today we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus the One whose life was a demonstration of God s care and desire for people s wholeness and inclusion, guided by the Spirit; but who despite that (or because of it) was rejected, scorned, humiliated, and killed today we celebrate that he was raised from death, inaugurating a new, resurrection life: hallelujah! As N.T. Wright describes, resurrection is not about going to heaven to become a disembodied spirit after we die. Jesus resurrection points to our own hope for resurrection, and indeed the confident hope that just as God transformed Jesus mortal body into something new, so we and the whole created world can look forward to being transformed and remade to share in resurrection life in the presence of God. One of the last points that N.T. Wright makes in his study series comes from the end of a passage in 1 Corinthians 15, in which Paul writes about the confidence that he has in the hope of resurrection. At the end of the passage Paul writes Therefore, my beloved, be steadfast, immovable, always excelling in the work of the Lord, because you know that in the Lord your labour is not in vain. Wright comments that we each may only have small parts to play or so it may seem to us. He drew the analogy of stone masons, who work on individual and particular stones, which together may form a marvellous cathedral. Each part is important and significant. And in the hope of resurrection no part is lost, all contributing to the world which shares God s promise of new life. God s peace, David
