2 Whole School News General Meeting Report It was pleasing to have parents and staff members from each Chairo campus in attendance at last night s Association general meeting, which was an encouraging, informative and enjoyable event. Simon Matthews commenced the meeting with a devotion from Psalm 146 regarding how we should plan and rule rightly praising God and placing our trust and hope in Him. Singing of a worship song was then led by several talented Drouin Senior School student musicians and vocalists. Two representatives from Flinders Christian Community College were present: Board Chairman, David Flack, and Executive Principal, Cameron Pearce. David spoke about opportunities presented unexpectedly by God, including Flinders becoming involved in Christian education in the Latrobe Valley The Chairo and Flinders Board Chairs and Executive Principals at last night s Association General Meeting. about 13 years ago and now Chairo carrying on this important work. Bryan Lewis reported regarding Chairo s current financial position and next year s budget and development plans. We have certainly been greatly blessed by God over many years, and therefore have much to be thankful for! Two of our parents, Rob Bruce and Clinton Tepper, reported about CEN s inaugural Nurture Conference, which they attended several months ago with their wives, Jemima and Michelle. They summarised the messages delivered by the speakers and explained how their good advice and instruction applies to us as a Christian school, and as parents raising our children in a complicated world. The annual Board election was conducted, with Rob Bruce, Chris Dean, Pete Morison and Allan Piening each elected to serve three-year terms on the Board. Praise God for willing and available parents who are prepared to serve the Chairo community in this important way. Guest speaker Darren Iselin from Christian Heritage College in Queensland highlighted the importance of sustaining vision and culture through generational transition in Christian schools. Whereas the first generation of families were called to imagine, build and cultivate, subsequent generations (especially Board members and those in senior leadership positions) need to be guardians of the vision. As part of an update regarding the Traralgon Campus, Simon Matthews introduced Keryn de Bruyn, who will serve as the Principal at Traralgon from the start of next year. Strategic Plan , Growing Stronger, was also launched at the meeting. This plan is guided by a model that seeks to emphasise our focus, clarify our context and identify our success factors. All families and staff members will receive copies of the Strategic Plan booklet next week.

3 From the Senior Chaplain Next week, each Chairo student will begin to explore what the Bible says about thanksgiving. In the Bible, thanksgiving is far more prominent, and far more important, than we may think: Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:6 7) But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God s holy people. Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving. (Ephesians 5:3 4) Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful. (Colossians 3:15, 17, 4:2) The bottom line: thanksgiving is central to the everyday life of the Christian. An ungrateful Christian is a contradiction in terms. Gratitude, thankfulness, thanksgiving this is the daily habit of the Christian. When we give thanks, we remember who God is, what He has done for us in Christ, what He has done in history, and what He has in store for us. Thanksgiving is one of the ways in which we set our hearts on things above not earthly things (Colossians 3:1 2). Tell your children what you are thankful for each day. Model thanksgiving in your prayers, and encourage them to be thankful in their own. Share the above scriptures with them, and also 1 Chronicles 16:34 35, Psalm 9:1 2, Psalm 106:1 2, Colossians 2:6 7, and 1 Timothy 3:1 2. May we all, as Chairo families, be overflowing with thankfulness (Colossians 2:7). This will run from Tuesday 28 November until the end of the school year. Orientation Day Orientation Day will be held on Tuesday 28 November and run for a full day for students in Years 1 to 10. All students will move up into their 2018 classes for the day. Prep students will come to school from 8.55 am to pm. A letter will be sent home shortly. Campus Lunch A reminder that the Nude Food Day special lunch will be held on Monday 14 November. All students will be catered for including gluten, dairy and egg free. The lunch is free, but students will still need healthy snacks for recess. The pizza types will be: Chicken, with BBQ sauce, with or without cheese and gluten-free base Ham and pineapple, with mixed herbs, with or without cheese and gluten-free base Vegetarian (capsicum, spring onion, mushroom, fresh tomatoes and basil), with or without cheese or pineapple and gluten-free base Mediterranean, with sun-dried tomatoes, feta cheese, olives, capsicum, onion and salami Fruit salad will be served in a cup with a spoon.
