1 Circuit Rider Lorem ips um ipsum dolor sit adipiscing ipsum VOL dolor 64 No. sit 11 adipiscing November 2018 MONTHLY NEWSLETTER OF CHANNAHON UNITED METHODIST CHURCH W. EAMES, CHANNAHON IL / Building Disciples-Growing Faith-Serving God We, as a congregation have chosen a new vision statement: Building Disciples, Growing in Faith and Serving in Christ s Name. I shortened it to make it more concise and easier to remember. Here it is: Building Disciples-Growing Faith-Serving God. These are good words, inspired words, they reflect the mission statement of the United Methodist Church but more importantly they reflect scripture. These are just words, if they don t have purpose behind them. When applying this statement to Channahon UMC, we already have examples of the very things these words represent. We have a Tuesday morning bible study, a Wednesday night adult bible study, Children s Sunday school, Wednesday night youth group and bible study, Kidz club, kids and youth movie night, blanket ministry, thrift shop, Good Samaritan ministry, monthly men s breakfast, serving at Morning Star Mission, collecting items for local needy organizations, and we gather for worship every Sunday morning. These are only example of all the purists of our church. What do we do next? I d like the church to focus on seeing the spiritual connection to these words. To internalized them. To do the things we do for the kingdom of God. I want the words to compel us to serve God like never before. To let faith be our heartbeat. To see ourselves as disciples while building disciples. Through radical hospitality we can witness to our faith, to love people unconditionally and to see all people as Christ does. In the weeks to come you will have opportunities to write down what we are already doing and what we would like to do. Pray about it, think about it. What specific activities would you like the church to participate in? What new outreach opportunities should we pursue? What kinds of programs should we start to help us build disciples, grow our faith and serve God? Continued at a glance Nov 3 Turkey Supper Turn clocks back 1hour Nov 4 All Saints Sunday Grief Recovery Seminar Nov 5 Family Soup/Bread Night Nov 6 General Election DON T FORGET TO VOTE! 2 Church News Events CrossTalk continued As part of implementing our vision, before the season of Lent, I want our congregation to write devotionals based on building disciples, growing faith and serving God. You don t have to be an expert writer. Write from your faith experiences, describe an event in your life and how God was involved. Pick a devotional you have read and submit it, be sure to include who wrote it and where you found it. We want 40 submissions to fill the 40 days of Lent. The purpose is to draw closer together as a congregation and to hear the testimonies of one another. This is open to people of all ages. Parents talk to your kids and help them write down their thoughts about God. Teenagers, have you seen God somewhere in your life? Adults, you have encounters with God that you ve never shared with the congregation. Experience in our Christian journey is valuable to others and needs to be shared. This in only the beginning. Blessings, Pastor Tim Consecration Sunday is December 9 Please prayerfully consider your 2019 contribution commitment NEWS Sunday, November 18 th The UM Northern Illinois Conference Bishop, Sally Dyck will be visiting our church. 4 A REMINDER from our TRUSTEES: Please use the church dumpster and recycling for church activities only. If you notice the dumpster or recycling near full, please drop a note to the church office. Also, Please see the below list of a few tips from Waste Management on what goes into the recycling to avoid fees and fines: RECYCLE DUMPSTER - DO'S & DON T S DO recycle all empty plastic bottles, cans, paper and cardboard DO keep foods and liquids out of recycling DO keep plastic bags out of recycling. DON'T bag your recyclables - plastic bags and film get tangled in the machinery DON'T include food-soiled items - they can turn an entire load of recycling into trash. DON'T add sharp or dangerous materials like needles and electronics - they can cause injury to our workers. DON'T toss in "tanglers" like rubber hoses and wires - they can shut down an entire recycling center! DON'T include bulky items like propane tanks or construction debris.
