2 Sixteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time July 17, 2016 It is [Christ] whom we proclaim, admonishing everyone and teaching everyone with all wisdom, that we may present everyone perfect in Christ. Colossians 1:28b WATCH YOUR POSTURE Our posture is often a tip-off to our hospitality and reverence for the Lord. Note the actions of Abraham as he greeted the Lord in the presence of three men who appeared near his tent. He ran from the entrance of the tent to greet them. He bowed to the ground as he met them. He and Sarah, his wife, hastened to prepare a meal and bring food and water to their guests. In the Gospel story, Jesus friend Mary sat at his feet in order to listen to him speak. How do we welcome and reverence the Lord? What do our actions show? Do we remember the Lord s presence in the Blessed Sacrament? How do we welcome the Lord in the scripture readings? How do we acknowledge his presence in our brothers and sisters, both at Mass and afterwards? Whether we kneel, stand, or sit in the Lord s presence, may our hearts and minds always be attuned to him. Copyright J. S. Paluch Co. TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION The French Revolution is hardly a treasure in our story, yet in 1789 it began to dismantle the way the world was organized: feudalism. The collapsed society had three basic divisions: those who work, those who fight, and those who pray. There wasn t a great deal of movement among the ranks, yet one way to move out of the workers and the fighters was in the direction of the folks who prayed. These were the First Estate, the clergy. One of the key persons in any manor or village was the priest. He could read, at least a bit, and so was the source for pronouncements and news from government and Church. He was assigned to celebrate the sacraments frequently and in conformance with certain rules. Seminaries did not exist before the Reformation. Astute Protestant reformers then forced the Catholic world toward a more educated and able clergy. Before that, young men apprenticed with a priest to learn the essentials, and would be presented to the bishop for ordination. Other priests emerged from the university system, where students were required to be invested as clerics. Still others were monks, ordained not so much for ministry outside the monastic walls, but to offer Mass only for the intentions of the community s benefactors. Rev. James Field, Copyright J. S. But today, Jesus seems to criticize Martha s hands-on mercy of hospitality, while praising Mary s hands-off as choosing the better part (Luke 10:42). Mary sat listening (10:39), leaving Martha burdened with much serving by herself (10:40). So, is the contemplative life of prayerful silence superior, but the active life of earning a living, raising a family, running parishes, schools, hospitals, and social service ministries second-class discipleship? No; Jesus example is not either/or but both/and: silent communion with God, boundless compassion for people. If we do not seek Jesus in silent prayer, how will we find Jesus in all others? If we do not serve Jesus in others, will our worship, despite its beauty, be anything but empty ritual? Maria đã chọn phần tốt nhất và sẽ không bị lấy đi". Suy Niệm Mácta không hiểu được cô em gái, chị cũng không hiểu được Ðức Giêsu, nên cuối cùng chị đã đến thưa với Chúa: Thầy không để ý tới sao? Mácta muốn Thầy để ý đến việc mình đang làm, muốn Thầy nhận ra sự vất vả mình phải chịu. Em con để mình con phục vụ. Mácta tưởng chỉ có mình mới là người phục vụ. Chị không nhận thấy rằng Maria cũng đang tiếp khách và ngồi nghe Chúa cũng là một cách phục vụ. Xin Thầy bảo em giúp con một tay. Mácta kéo Ðức Giêsu vào cuộc, kéo Ngài đứng về phía mình, phía đúng, để gây áp lực trên cô em. Chị muốn Maria phải vào bếp với mình, phải phục vụ theo kiểu của mình. Ngấm ngầm, Mácta không chấp nhận kiểu phục vụ của Maria. Có lẽ chị nghĩ đó là một hành vi vô ích, trong khi có biết bao việc quan trọng khác cần làm. Ðức Giêsu không ghét Mácta, không coi nhẹ việc phục vụ của chị, nhưng buộc lòng Ngài phải lên tiếng. Ngài muốn giải phóng Mácta khỏi nỗi bồn chồn quá mức. Ngài muốn giải phóng chị khỏi cái tôi, khỏi lối nhìn hẹp hòi, để nhận ra điều duy nhất cần thiết. Ngài gọi tên chị hai lần: Mácta! Mácta! Con lo lắng và xao động vì nhiều chuyện quá, dù chuyện ấy là chuyện con lo cho Thầy. Cần thanh lọc lòng mình khỏi những tìm kiếm vị kỷ, khỏi những ganh tị nhỏ mọn và tự mãn ngấm ngầm, để có thể làm việc cho Chúa trong bình an thư thái, dù có gặp thất bại hay bị lãng quên. Chỉ có một chuyện cần mà thôi. Coi chừng nỗi lo lắng về nhiều chuyện phụ lại làm ta quên mất chuyện chính, chuyện cần hơn cả, đó là an tĩnh gặp gỡ và lắng nghe Chúa mỗi ngày trong tư thế khiêm hạ của người môn đệ. Cuộc sống dồn dập hôm nay dễ biến chúng ta thành Mácta: xao động, âu lo, căng thẳng, mất kiên nhẫn. Cả người làm việc cho Chúa cũng bị cuốn hút. Có lẽ cần bớt việc và thêm giờ cầu nguyện, cần để cho Chúa làm việc nơi tôi và qua tôi thay vì tự mình bươn chải một mình. Phải chăng đời Kitô hữu là kết hợp giữa Mácta và Maria, giữa tất bật và an tĩnh, giữa lăng xăng và ngồi yên, giữa hoạt động và cầu nguyện? Ðể rồi giữa tất bật, tôi tìm thấy an tĩnh, giữa lăng xăng, tôi thấy mình ngồi yên, giữa hoạt động, tôi thấy mình chiêm niệm. Gợi Ý Chia Sẻ Có khi nào những khúc mắc của cuộc sống đưa bạn đến ngồi dưới chân Chúa không? Bạn nghĩ gì về sự cân đối giữa cầu nguyện và hoạt động trong đời bạn? Cầu nguyện là gặp gỡ và lắng nghe như cô Maria. Có khi nào bạn có kinh nghiệm như Maria không? Bạn có khi nào nghe Chúa nói tự thẳm sâu cõi lòng không? Cầu Nguyện Lạy Chúa, ước gì tinh thần cầu nguyện thấm nhuần vào cả đời con. Nhờ cầu nguyện, xin cho con gặp được con người thật của con và khuôn mặt thật của Chúa. (Trích trong Manna)

Observa las acciones de Abraham cuando saludó al Señor en presencia de tres hombres que aparecieron cerca de su tienda. Corrió desde la entrada de la tienda a saludarlos. Se postró en tierra a su encuentro. Él y Sara, su esposa, se apresuraron a preparar una comida y llevarle alimento y agua a sus invitados. En el relato del Evangelio, María, la amiga de Jesús, se sentó a sus pies para escucharlo hablar. Cómo le damos la bienvenida y reverenciamos al Señor? Qué demuestran nuestras acciones? Recordamos la presencia del Señor en el Santísimo Sacramento? Cómo le damos la bienvenida al Señor en las lecturas de las Escrituras? Cómo reconocemos su presencia en nuestros hermanos y hermanas, tanto en la Misa como después?
