Assistant admin@frontroyalpres.org Church (540) Fax (540) Pastor s Pen Over the past two weeks I have had the pleasure of meeting with the leadership at Calvary Episcopal Church. What began as a shared effort to host Vacation Bible School has now become a joint determination to affect lasting change in Warren County. After brainstorming, praying and collaborating we came to the conclusion that the only way to combat the prevailing poverty in Warren County and to live out Christ s command to feed the hungry and clothe the naked was to offer the youth of Warren County hope beyond the cycle of poverty that entraps them. On May 30 th, Larry Elliott president of CCAP and area leaders will hold a group session titled Poverty and Kids. It will be held at the Samuels Public Library at 6:00 PM. It is there that we will begin a cooperative effort to not just fulfill the commandment found in Matthew s Gospel, but together we will begin a journey that will cross denominational lines, seek to serve the least among us, break down the boundaries that divide us and will tear down the walls of the church so that we can be a community of caring Christians out in the world around us. What I m Reading Poverty in Kids 6:00 May 30 th Samuel s Public Library The Year of Living Biblically by A.J. Jacobs. The story of one man who follows the Bible as literally as possible humorous, eye opening and also a TV Show Living Biblically Join me for a book discussion on Tuesday, May 29 th at 6:00 at the Front Royal Presbyterian Church I ll pick a new book each month; the next book will be C. S. Lewis The Great Divorce. Gundamentalism by James E. Atwood, a Presbyterian minister who strongly supports the right to bear arms while still finding a way to support every person s right to peace and tranquility. Please know that the Session is actively working towards taking measures to make sure the church is a safe place to worship and join in fellowship. If you have any questions regarding this please see Pastor Carrie, Ross McVey, Jeremiah Laing or. Join me at a discussion and retreat at Massanetta Springs the weekend of June 1-2 titled Beyond Thoughts and Prayers. Pastor Carrie

The official cookie sorters estimated that we collected about 2150 dozen cookies. All the ladies on the weekend enjoyed them immensely. It was an amazing privilege to see joy emerge as these ladies experienced the love and mercy of God. Thank you for supporting this ministry. Looking Ahead to Summer Music Spring has finally sprung! As I look ahead to this summer, I'm sure there are people at FRPC with hidden talents that could enhance our worship. Having only been here since January, I may not be aware of your unique skill set. So, if you or your child is interested/willing to play an instrument or sing in church (either a solo or as part of a group), please let me know. Fellowship Trip to Lancaster, PA On Wednesday, May 30 plan to go on a one day trip to Lancaster, PA, to see Jesus. Sight & Sound Theatres invites you to experience the greatest rescue story of all time! Jesus is the action-packed musical stage adventure that takes you on a miraculous journey alongside the most famous person ever to walk the earth and the everyday people whose lives he changed forever. While Jesus story may be familiar, his actions are unexpected. He befriends outcasts and heals the hurting. He challenges social norms and confronts hypocrisy. He sets sail with fishermen and reasons with religious scholars. And the lives he touches will never be the same. From the streets of Jerusalem to the raging Sea of Galilee, there s no place and no person that his love can t reach. To make a reservation, call Renee at the church office at Elsie Upchurch will still be your tour guide for this trip. The cost for the trip is $130.00, which includes bus fare, a stop at an Amish Market, dinner at Hershey Farm Restaurant, and the show. We have 15 seats available. Payment is due now. Make checks payable to Front Royal Presbyterian Church and send to the church at 115 Luray Ave., Front Royal, VA

Examples of repairs include painting, plumbing, electrical, siding, deck building, and roofing to name a few. All skill levels are welcome. Accommodations and meals provided. Kids Club activities (VBS, service, and recreation) A sign-up sheet is in the Narthex, or for more information please contact Donna or David Edwards The HVAC Needs Our Help! As you may know, our church has replaced the failing air conditioning system for the Sanctuary. The system that we replaced is one that dates back to the 1960 s and has been less than dependable for the last few years. Fixing the existing unit was no longer a viable option and so the decision to replace it was made. The work started on February 9 th and is now completed. Work cost the church $39, and those funds came out of the church s Manse account. In order to replace these essential funds, we are kicking off a fund-raising drive to replace that $39, and return our Manse account to its full capacity. If you would like to contribute to this fund-raising drive, make your check payable to the Front Royal Presbyterian Church and in the memo section, write Manse account or you can mark it on your offering envelope. Any amount will be greatly appreciated and may God bless you for your offerings. This fundraising will continue for the next few months or until the funds are replaced. To keep you apprised of how the fund-raiser is going, the amount of funds collected so far for the Manse account is $4, Thank you to those who have helped with this cause. 4
