2 Welcome. We re glad to gather together as a community of faith today. No matter where you are on the journey of faith, you are welcome here to join in worship and service. If you are new to this community of faith, we rejoice in your presence with us. Remember, we re not strangers, but rather friends who journey together, following the Lord Jesus Christ. If you are a newcomer, we invite you to sign the pew pad. Please turn off all cellular phones, pagers and watch alarms during worship. Please refrain from using flash photography during the worship service. If you are seated on the aisle, and the sanctuary is filling with people, kindly move toward the center of the pew, allowing others to enter and join the community with the least disturbance to others. Thank you. Child Care is available on the lower level for infants/toddlers. Two child-care attendants staff the infant/toddler room. If you are able to assist in the care of our children, please contact the church office. Large Print Bibles are available from the ushers upon request. 3 Preparation for Worship We testify that God is faithful. Even when we are faithless, God remains faithful. The Lord still brings from oppressed and uprooted peoples riches of insight and daring visions that can judge and bless the world. We can have confidence in God s coming kingdom even in the darkest times. From DeclarationofFaith Order of WorshipWeGatherinGod sname *Those who are able, please stand *GATHERING HYMN No. 18 Come, Ye Thankful People. Come ST. L: We will live in peace, and a child will lead us. P: Let us walk in the light of the Lord. THE CAINE FAMILY and Lighting of the Advent Wreaththe Candle of Peace THE CAINE FAMILY O Root of Jesse, O Peace, stir up your power within us, that in this time we may await with abundant expectation the fulfillment of your eternal presence in creation, for you live and reign among us, Maker, Savior, and Giver of Life, one God, now and forever. Amen. PRAYER of CONFESSION ( unison) Holy God, we confess that we do not walk in your light. We hurt and destroy one another; we neglect the poor and hungry. We let evil grow among us and fail to bear good fruit. Forgive us; deliver us; prepare the way for us, so that we may be ready to enter into your presence, through Jesus Christ our Lord. -3-
