1 Summerville Presbyterian Church 4845 St. Paul Boulevard Rochester, New York Easter Sunday March 31, 2013
2 WELCOME. We re glad to gather together as a community of faith today. No matter where you are on the journey of faith, you are welcome here to join in worship and service. If you are new to this community of faith, we rejoice in your presence with us. Remember, we re not strangers, but rather friends who journey together, following the Lord Jesus Christ. If you are a newcomer, we invite you to sign the pew pad. PLEASE turn off all cellular phones, pagers and watch alarms during worship. Please refrain from using flash photography during the worship service. CHILD CARE is available on the lower lever for infants/toddlers Room 3 for and preschoolers. Two child-care attendants staff the infant/toddler room and parent volunteers staff the preschool/kindergarten room during services. 3 Preparation for Worship We declare that Jesus is Lord. His resurrection is a decisive victory over the powers that deform and destroy human life. His lordship is hidden. The world appears to be dominated by people and systems that do not acknowledge his rule. But his lordship is real. It demands our loyalty and sets us free from the fear of all lesser lords who threaten us. We maintain that ultimate sovereignty now belongs to Jesus Christ in every sphere of life. Jesus is Lord! He has been Lord from the beginning. He will be Lord at the end. Even now he is Lord. FROM A DECLARATION OF FAITH Order of Worship *Those who are able, please stand *GATHERING HYMN No. 312 Jesus Christ Is Risen Today EASTER HYMN Minister: People: Christ is risen. He is risen indeed. TIDINGS of the CHURCHWe invite visitors to sign the pew register INTERLUDE Christ Arose JOHN FERGUSON CALL TO WORSHIP SARAH HAYES L: God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power. P: We are witnesses. L: Jesus proclaimed the kingdom and healed people. P: We are witnesses. L: They put him to death by hanging him on a tree. P: We are witnesses. L: But God raised him on the third day. P: We are witnesses. L: Christ has commanded us to share this good news with all the world, so that all may believe and have life through him. P: We are witnesses: Christ is risen! Alleluia! PRAYER of CONFESSION (UNISON) SARAH HAYES How shortsighted we are, O Lord, that we so often hope in this life and forget the life to come; that we seek the living among the dead. Though you foretold your death and resurrection, our view remains clouded by death and doubt, desire and sin. Forgive us, Lord Christ, for you are Lord of all, victorious over death and ordained by God as judge of the living and the dead. -3-
