Pope Oct The Catholic Servant Newspaper Dear Parishioners, Beginning in January, we will receive a free copy of The Catholic Servant Newspaper in our weekly church bulletin. This newspaper s mission is to be A Tool for Evangelization, Catechesis and Apologetics. Some of the monthly pieces I enjoy reading are the monthly featured saint column by Melissa Hackenmueller, a Q & A section by Bishop John La- Voir (Bishop of the New Ulm Diocese), a bit heady at times but thought provoking theological column by Professor Douglas Bushman, and a column by Dale Ahlquist containing common sense wisdom drawn from the renown Catholic writer G.K. Chesterton. I hope that you will enjoy reading The Catholic Servant Newspaper. Indeed, I am hoping that it is for St. Bernard and Ascension Parishioners A Tool for Evangelization, Catechesis and Apologetics. I hope that it will help us to better understand our beautiful Catholic Faith. This is one way to nourish our faith by the Word of God (as Pope Francis exhorts us to do). The Word of God forms the foundation from which these columns are written. You may also want to pass it on to someone else when you are finished reading it or pass on a particular article you think someone might find helpful. Doing this is a simple means of evangelization! Serving is from 8 a.m. 12:30 p.m. The menu includes pancakes, French toast, sausage, apple sauce and beverages. Free Throw Contest Ascension KCs are having their Free Throw Contest today Sunday Jan. 18 th at Central High School. The contest is free of charge for boys and girls ages Registration starts at 12:30 p.m. and the contest begins at 1 p.m. Volunteer Needed A volunteer is needed to oversee Ascension s boilers, the water/sewer system, and report problems in a timely manner. Must be 18 years or older, and be able to obtain and maintain a valid State of Minnesota Special Engineer license. Thrivent is also providing matching funds. Church of St. Bernard Cologne, MN Catholic Schools Week will kick off with an Opening Mass at 10am Sun. Jan. 25th. A KC Pancake Breakfast from 8:00 to 12:30 next Sunday, Jan. 25th. Please plan on attending Mass and other activities during the week of Jan. 25th through Jan.30th, More details are on the insert in today s bulletin. The 42nd Winter Carnival is scheduled for February 15, 2015 and planning for the event is well underway. If anyone has anything they would like to donate please contact Sister Jancy or Brenda Buckley Jones. Do you need a way to promote your business? We have a live auction, silent auction and many prizes are given out for bingo and other games. Let us help promote your business with a donation to our Winter Carnival. We are looking for volunteers to call and collect donations from area businesses in the Chaska, Norwood and Waconia communities. If you have any questions please call Irene Drees at PRAYERS: Your prayers are requested for the repose of the soul of Rita Peter, mother of Pat Storms. Rita s funeral was Saturday, January 10th. May she rest in peace. Thank You to the great crew of volunteers who helped take down the Christmas decorations last Sunday. Your help was a wonderful example of many hands make light the work. Thank you one and all. SCRIP NEWS = Holiday sales totaled $28, plus for November and December. Thanks to all who did their holiday shopping with us. A big thank you to Ascension members for their orders. Also, thanks to Jan Pouliot for her support and service. We had a $10,000.0 order during the holidays which really helped with our sales. Please continue to support this program. Changes to the program. Kwik Trip discount has been reduced from 9% to 4% and Subway has increased from 3% to 6% effective Jan 1, Also we will no longer have PaPa Murphys on hand. It is available by special order.
