2 FAITH FORMATION SNAPSHOTS The following material is a communication piece shared with our Catechesis of the Good Shepherd parents. This communication gives parishioners a little glimpse into the classroom and the environment of the atrium! In the Atrium last night, some of the children had the opportunity to get a glimpse at what a sacristan does to help prepare for Mass by filling cruets with water and wine. This takes lots of practice to do without spilling! They then got to see what Father does with the water and wine at Mass, how he prepares the chalice. One boy in particular loves this presentation and can t help but do a little happy dance when he works with this. The children are first shown how Father pours all/most of the wine from the cruet into the chalice. And then...just a teeny-tiny drop of water. When one child saw how just a very tiny, itty-bitty, small amount of water goes into the chalice, her eyes got really big and her jaw dropped open in surprise. She wasn t expecting that! When asked, What s special about the wine in the chalice at Mass? she said, The wine becomes Jesus. When asked to imagine that the drop of water is herself or maybe even her whole family, she added, Maybe even the whole Church! And then taking it a step further... So if that drop of water is us, and we get all mixed up with the wine that becomes Jesus at Mass...hmmm, I wonder what God is telling us? She pondered a moment and said, It means we all get bigger. Thank you to the person who donated this gorgeous plant for the Atrium. The children love watering the plant and dusting its leaves. One girl would go over to our baptismal font, dip a cotton ball in the holy water, and then go back to the plant to clean its leaves. At the end of our time in the Atrium, we gathered at the Prayer Table to review a Bible verse that the kids have memorized: Jesus said I am the light of the world. Whoever follows Me will not walk in darkness but will have the light of life. John 8:12 Time always goes so quickly at the Prayer Table, and we could hear parents outside, but the kids really wanted to sing our God is so Good song before they left. So we zoomed through a speedy-quick rendition, going around the rug, each child tossing out something God gives us that we are thankful for. And so we had: God gives us... The Story of a Quilt: This year's Fish Fry Raffle Quilt is made up of blocks embroidered by Allen Schmitt's mother, sewed together by Allen's wife Vonnie and quilted by St Bernard's quilters. It won Champion at the Carver County Fair in August Chances are $2 each. The quilt is on display in the narthex. Proceeds from the Fish Fry will go toward Parish Improvement projects. The Marriage in Christ Seminar: Friendship with God, Friendship with Our Spouse, In the Holy Spirit, is a fiveweek seminar is for couples who desire to strengthen their marriage, who want to establish good patterns of prayer & friendship or who are facing transitions in their lives, e.g., having children, the empty nest, or retirement. The Marriage in Christ seminar invites couples to renew their love and affection for each other and for the Lord, to deepen their unity as a couple and to celebrate the presence of God in ordinary life.
