And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age. Matt 28:19-20 Dear Parishioners, Jesus gave this mission to His disciples whom He formed as His Church. For 2,000 years under the guidance of the Holy Spirit through Whom Jesus promised He would always be with us our Catholic Church has been carrying out this mission. In 2018 how is the Holy Spirit guiding us to carry out this mission in western Carver County? Both Ascension and St. Bernard parish leadership has been encouraged by our ability to more effectively carry out this mission through our combined St. Bernard/Ascension Faith Formation Program (STBAFF). Buoyed up by this positive development and in collaboration with the Parish and Finance Councils of each of our parishes, the Joint Leadership Team (JLT) developed and has been praying and working to further seek God s will. The JLT is composed of Trustees: Jack Lano & Rita Fahey and Andy Kleindl & Laura Templin; Parish & Finance Council Chairs: Brian Willems & Jack Lano and Brenda Buckley Jones & Ralph Laumann; Faith Formation representative Julie Kleindl; our Business Administrator Sherry Witte and myself. On Sunday, March , each individual parish will have a town hall meeting to update you on our work and seek your input. St. Bernard s meeting is right after the 10am Mass from 11am-12:30pm in the church narthex and Ascension s is 1:15-2:45pm in the social hall. One issue each parish faces is facilities: Ascension has poor handicapped accessibility, limited church level space for welcome and fellowship and faith formation space issues while St. Bernard has the question of what to do with the school building and related issues surrounding that. To help us better figure out solutions to these issues we need your input: how do you see God working among us? How do you think God is calling us as individual clustered parishes? How can we GROW in our relationship with God and one another? How can we be witnesses to the Gospel? What are your thoughts and concerns? Please understand that we have not made any decisions. (Mark 6:31) All are welcome to our upcoming Lenten Friday Prayer services beginning Fri., Feb. 16 th from 7p.m.-8:15p.m. The first three Fridays in Lent will be hosted at Church of the Ascension, and the last three Fridays in Lent will be hosted at St. Bernard Church. Our evenings will consist of worshiping God in music, prayer, and adoration before the Blessed Sacrament, Stations of the Cross, a brief personal testimony of the love of God, and will end with Night Prayer. < < < < < <(Continued in the column from the left) To help us in our discernment and to address concerns you may have I offer 2 helps. First, in all the ups and downs, joys and sorrows of our life let us go to Jesus: Cast all your worries upon him because he cares for you (1 Peter 5:7). 3 Church of the Ascension Norwood Young America, MN Fasting & Abstinence During Lent Opportunities for Deep Conversion Good Friday is an obligatory day of abstinence and fasting for Catholics. This rule applies to healthy adults ages When fasting, a person is allowed to eat one full, meatless meal. Some food can be taken at the other regular meal times if necessary, but combined they should be less than a full meal. Those that are excused from fasting and abstinence outside the age limits include the physically or mentally ill, including individuals suffering from chronic illnesses such as diabetes. Also excluded are pregnant or nursing women. In all cases, common sense should prevail, and ill persons should not further jeopardize their health by fasting. In addition, please remember that Fridays during Lent are obligatory days of abstinence from meat and applies to those who are 14 years of age and up. Rosary at the Harbor During Lent All are welcome to join residents of Peace Village, the Harbor, and the Haven as the Respect Life Group leads the Rosary each Monday during Lent. Please meet on the 2 nd floor of the Harbor in the community room at 10:15 a.m. and unite your prayers with others and with Mary, lifting up our world in much-needed prayer. Natural Family Planning Classes A series of Natural Family Planning (NFP) classes will begin soon in your community or a community near you. This Church approved method is scientific and marriage building. The classes teach couples how to achieve or postpone pregnancy while embracing the beauty of God s gift of sexuality. A series of classes taught by a qualified instructor will begin soon.
