1 Our Lady of Peace Stapled in this bulletin is a green and white envelope for the 2014 Catholic Services Appeal (CSA). We are asking that everyone contribute something to this years campaign. Our ideal goal would be that we hear from every family whether they can give a gift or not. Our secondary goal is to hear from 800 families which would be about 30% of families. Last year we had heard from only 550 families. Won t you please take the time to use the envelope, return it to us with your intention to help us reach our goal of raising $60,000? Once we reach that goal we can proceed with continued plans for new carpeting in the church. As of this printing we have heard from 235 families that have pledged $82,703; our parish assessment to the diocese is $133,844. CHILD: Who are the people you find it most difficult to forgive? West Millcreek Food Pantry 2013 Annual Report The West Millcreek Food Pantry has been a very busy place this past year. We serve an area from Millfair Rd. to Pittsburgh Ave. and from the Lake to West 38th Steet or zip codes and On average we serve about 585 individuals a month including 135 children, 350 adults and 100 elderly. We give out to an average of 225 families each month (bags and boxes with 12 different items in each). The larger the family, the more multiples of the items are placed in the boxes. We provide an additional 30 pounds of food per month to needy seniors (over 60) through a federal government program. Last year we purchased over 65,000 lbs of food from the Second Harvest Food Bank. We were able to get some fresh vegetables and fruits as well as day old bread at a very minimal cost. Our cost for items donated to the Food Bank is $.13 per pound. Unfortunately, as our grant monies are used up, the supply of government commodity food (TFAP) has decreased and the cost of food in general has gone up, our food costs have risen sharply. It now costs between $300 and $500 a month for food that used to cost less than $ Our costs for the monthly rental truck to pick up our Food Bank order have also gone up to a little over $ We still can purchase about $15.00 worth of food for each dollar that is donated so all monetary donations are sincerely appreciated. In addition to the food we buy, our contributing churches (Our Lady of Peace), the Millcreek School System and other area businesses and service organizations have been vital in our ability to serve the needy in our area. The donations we receive from our partners allow us to give the clients the dignity of choosing 2 or 3 items they would enjoy in addition to the 12 items we place in the bags/boxes we give out. Santa s Helpers and the Sunshine Ladies provided toys and gift boxes for our families at Christmas time. 10 TODAY Sunday, February 23, 2014 L'Arche Erie Lasagna Tasting Competition The Concourse at Union Station 1:00-4:00PM L'Arche Erie is a local, nonprofit, community of faith which provides family-like homes of hope and belonging for individuals with intellectual disabilities. Today, February 23rd, L'Arche is holding its second annual Lasagna Tasting Competition featuring eight restaurants from our local area. The public plus a panel of celebrity judges will determine the winning entries. In addition to the opportunity to get a "taste of Italy," attendees will be able to enjoy local chocolates, complementary cookies and coffee, live music, and an auction of desirable prizes donated by Erie businesses. Tickets purchased at the door are $20.
