2 Dear Parishioners and Visitors, Welcome to Friar Fran Pompei, OFM, who is our homilist this weekend, and the speaker at our Parish Mission, which I m sure you all have marked in your calendars. At a time like this, we could all use some spiritual renewal, and each of us at times need help in deepening our relationship with Jesus. Just as married couples need a rekindling of the spark that brought them together in the first place, so too do we Catholics needs things to set us back on track and deepen our love and awe for God. A Parish Mission is intended to do that. I hope and pray that we will all get a lot out of Fr. Fran Pompei. The Mission will be held on Monday and Wednesday at OLGC at 7pm, and on Tuesday at St. Ambrose at 7pm. Another excellent opportunity for spiritual growth and renewal is a very successful program that will be beginning here in the near future. It is called Alpha, and is meant to help adults and teens, at every stage of the spiritual life, to grow in faith, in love of God and neighbor, and in the hope that is at the heart of the Christian message. With so much distraction and competition for our attention by things of this world as good as they are as your Pastor, it is my responsibility to continuously challenge growth in the Spiritual Life, in our immersion in God. The Alpha Program is yet another excellent way to do that. It has caught fire at other parishes and is one of the most beloved and successful parish programs going, and it is coming to our parishes under the guidance of Mike Carroll, one of our Deacon candidates, and certainly under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. In 1992 at the age of fourteen Kate had cancer, all her organs shut down and she was in intensive care for 46 days. Sister Hanley and Kate prayed to Mother Marianne Cope. What happened next was nothing short of miraculous and was instrumental in the Canonization of Mother Marianne Cope in Hear Kate tell this awe inspiring story in person on November 13th. Men of our parishes, you are invited and welcome to pray the Rosary together at 7 am on the 1st Saturday of the month in the OLGC chapel behind the Tabernacle. In order to offer gift cards this holiday season they are asking for parish support in donating gift cards for Walmart, Target, Boscov s and the Oakdale Mall to help meet the need. Cards in $5.00 increments work best. Gift card donations may be given to the parish (they will gladly pick up) or you may drop off gift card donations to Catholic Charities at 86 Walnut Street or 232 Main Street in Binghamton. Feed my Starving Children - Southern Tier Mobile Food Pack Friday, November 2, :00-7:00 PM at Endwell Methodist Church, Watson Boulevard, Endwell (across from Broadway Diner) OPEN TO FAMILIES, MIDDLE SCHOOL & HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS FMSC's mission: Feeding God s starving children hungry in body and spirit. The approach: Our process is simple. Volunteers hand-pack the meals. Meals are donated to FMSC food partners around the world, where kids are fed and lives are saved! We will be signing up as a group to help pack the meals. There are limited spaces to participate. It is a lot of fun and a great community service project. 6 A FAMILY PERSPECTIVE from the Office of Family Life Education (A Hope Appeal Agency) The words in today s gospel, Whoever gives a cup of water in the name of Christ will not lose their reward hits us at home. As parents, we gain our reward when we bring water to a frightened child in the middle of the night, or Kool Aid to parched five-year olds, or hold ice chips to the fevered lips of a spouse. It is that simple and that sacred. In our homes, we give until it hurts in the name of Christ. The OLGC Sanctuary Lamp burns this week to the glory of God and in memory of David Pipher, Jr. at the request of family. The Altar & Rosary Society is sponsoring a day of prayer, friends, and fun on Saturday, October 13th. Please join us on a Bus Trip to the Shrine of Our Lady of Fatima, in New Jersey.
