2 Dear Parishioners and Visitors, I hope that you all of you will take time to be a part of Make a Difference Day, which takes place at the OLGC gym from 11 until 3 on Sunday, October 22. Not only does this event showcase the various ministries of OLGC & St. Ambrose Parishes, but it is also a way for local agencies like Mercy House and Mom s House and others to also elicit volunteers. Food will be available a very reasonable cost if you wanted to stay for lunch, and donations of gently used coats, food, and school supplies will be accepted. A gift basket raffle will also help raise funds for Showers of Hope, that provides showers to the homeless, and which is stationed at St. Ambrose on Wednesdays. Please take some time to be a part of this event. When I was Associate at St. Joseph s Church in Camillus, NY, the Pastor, the late Fr. Gregg LeStrange, always insisted that there were NO volunteers at the parish only Ministers. Volunteering and volunteerism is essentially the free giving on one s time to help another, and that can be done (and must be done) in a variety of ways in our world. The distinctive character of volunteering in a Christian setting, however, springs not just from the personal desire to do good, but from our Baptismal call and our participation in the Body of Christ. It is therefore not just the personal giving of our time and energy, but an extension of Christ himself, who, according to St. Paul, it is not I who live, but Christ who lives in me. I still live my human life but it is a life of faith in the Son of God who has loved me, and has given himself up for me. (Galations 2:20) So, yes, let us all be ministers, the living hands and feet of Jesus Christ, who lives and breathes in us. And may God bless you all, Fr. MOTHER TERESA S CUPBOARD is in need of cereal, juice & crackers. Please be generous. VIRTUS Training: It is recommended that all volunteers take the Safe Environment Training class. If you are in need of training or to re-cert, please go online to Virtus.org, select Syracuse Diocese to view classes & register for preferred date. Soup Kitchen: Team Leaders Soup Kitchen Yearly Meeting will be held on October 24th at 6:30 pm in Hobbes Rm. Make a Difference Day On 10/22 from 11-3 pm OLGC will be sponsoring a Make a Difference Day. We will be collecting several items to distribute in our local community to those in need & will be having a fund raising event for Showers of Hope Project. We would like to have a Basket Raffle: If you are interested in donating a basket or donating items to put in basket, please drop off your donation(s) to OLGC Rectory until 10/15.
