2 Dear Parishioners and Visitors, Happy third week of Lent. Of the many roles a Pastor plays, in some ways he is a lot like a coach. St. Paul has used sports images to describe the spiritual life, and just like any athlete, it is up to the individual person to do the hard work of growing, stretching, and improving his or her relationship with God. But, the Pastor of any community plays the role of encouraging, of feeding people the right food through the Sacraments, of presenting strategies for growth, of creating opportunities where that growth might occur, and (hopefully) modeling behaviors that bring us closer to God. Lent provides an excellent opportunity for this, and like coaches who set bars for the athlete to strive toward, I will now give you my annual Lenten challenge. I hope you will take it seriously. As you know, each week there are Stations of the Cross (12:45 at St. Ambrose; 7pm at OLGC, with music). I challenge you to make it to at least one night of Stations. Obviously I d love you to attend them all, but I challenge you to make it to at least one. Second, we have the Parish Mission coming up April 1, 2, & 3. I encourage you to attend at very least one of the sessions. Of course, you d really benefit from hearing them all, but please commit to attending at least one. And finally, the holiest days of the Church year are fast approaching: the Sacred Triduum. While attending them all gives the full sweep of the Lord s Paschal sacrifice, I ask to you make a promise to yourself to attend at least one: Mass of the Lord s Supper on Holy Thursday, Passion of the Lord on Good Friday, or the Easter Vigil on Holy Saturday. This the challenge I place before you as your spiritual coach and Pastor. May God, who has begun this work in you, bring it to completion on the day of Christ Jesus. Fr. Michael THE SACRAMENTS Reconciliation: At St. Ambrose Saturday: 2:30-3:15 pm or by appointment. (no confessions on Holy Days and on holidays.) Palm Sunday Penance Service at 4:00 pm on Sunday 4/14 at OLGC. The Light is on Reconciliation on Monday 4/15 from 2:00-5:00 pm at OLGC. Baptism: Baptisms may be scheduled during Masses or outside of Mass. For information and to schedule a date, please call the parish office. Marriage: Arrangements should be made with our staff at least six months in advance. RCIA Program: Persons wishing to explore the Catholic faith and receive the sacraments of initiation, please call the director of faith formation at the parish office. Pastoral Ministry: Parishioners confined to home who would like to receive the Eucharist should contact the parish office. 2 CALENDAR OF THE WEEK Saturday, March 23 St. Turibius de Mogrovejo 4:00 PM Mass (At St. Ambrose) + Mass for Living & Deceased Mothers & Fathers Sunday, March 24 3rd Sunday of Lent 7:45 AM Mass (At OLGC) + Elsie Cromie / Her Family 10:00 AM Mass (At OLGC) + Viola & Raymond Titti / Joan Spadine 11:30 AM Mass (At St. Ambrose) + Arthur Kolanda / Wife, Pearl & Family 7:00 PM Mass (At OLGC) Fr. 6 A FAMILY PERSPECTIVE from the Office of Family Life Education (A Hope Appeal Agency) The owner of the fig tree was impatient because the tree did not live up to his expectations. In families there are those who don t live up to our expectations. Imitate the gardener and give them more time and help. Don t cut them out of your life. Love asks us to be connected, not productive. News / About Town HIGHER GROUND support group for those experiencing Separation or Divorce. (Pride, lust, gluttony, greed, sloth, anger, envy.) Add one positive activity that will deepen your prayer and spiritual life - especially if you think you are too busy to add anything more into an impossibly busy schedule! (Go to Mass in the middle of the week, read the gospel, volunteer, get up early and pray) Deny yourself something you really like or are attached to.
