August 1, 2013 The Vision Statement Of Oasis Masonic Lodge # 52 Is That The Lodge: Is A Recognized Active Participant In The Masonic Community Fostering Fraternal Fellowship And Masonic Teachings. Supports The Local Community Through Involvement With Public Schools And Programs Addressing Community Concerns. The Mission Statement Of Oasis Masonic Lodge # 52 Is To: From the East W.B. N Dean Millard ccording to my wife my articles have been a "little" A on the serious side this year and she suggested that I should attempt to "lighten them up" a little. I'm not too sure just how successful I will be as my engineering mentality doesn't lend itself well to being too light, but I will try my best! Preserve And Promote The Teachings Of Freemasonry. Promote Masonic Values Through Service To Mankind And Truth In Life. Inspire Good Men To Seek Membership Within Our Organization. Encourage The Membership To Continually Seek The Truth. Promote Active Fellowship With Masonic Friends And Family. The general topic of Freemasonry doesn't generally lend itself to light topics, however, there are a number of Brothers (and Sisters) who would tend to argue that concept to be false. Somewhat obviously these would include many who have joined the Shrine. But also those who work with the youth groups find that serious topics and melancholy thoughts are not well received So, if you find yourself feeling a little "down in the mouth", go visit the Jobies or the DeMolay or Rainbow girls! Perhaps the circus is in town and a visit to the clowns would be in order. Whatever makes you happy should be a part of your life in Masonry as in your everyday actions! You should find the fun in life as much as you find the serious side. This seems to be true no matter if you are talking about your work or about one of our Masonic groups or your family. If you can't find the fun, you WILL find the WORK. Anything is easier if it is fun and enjoyable -- try it, you'll like it! If you can find the time away from all of this other fun, come to lodge and join us in some of our fun activities. Masonic Jeopardy is ALWAYS a highlight of the fun activities around the Lodge as are our Family Fun Events held in the Spring and Fall. We are also having our annual Poker Run this fall and that is always great fun for all who participate. Our Masonic friends and companions, Horizon Chapter of OES is planning another Ice Cream Social and "Dirty Bingo" afternoon at the Lodge the 27th of July. Unfortunately, this Trestleboard probably won't be published until after that time, but this activity is a regular one for Horizon so watch for it and come join in the fun. Now for a couple of more serious items. By the time this is published we will have a new Brother within the Lodge as he is to be initiated Tuesday, the 23rd of July. Please come to Lodge when you can and welcome

Page 2 Features Page 1 Oasis Lodge Vision Statement Oasis Lodge Mission Statement Thoughts from the Worshipful Master Page 2 Masonic Birthdays him to the craft! Also on the 27th, after Horizon has their party, the Bundy Corporation and all who are present will have the pleasure of witnessing the literal burning of the mortgage for the Temple. We have finally successfully paid off the mortgage and Grand Lodge sent us a copy of the document which will be copied and then "burnt" to, I am certain, a great deal of cheering Come join us in this important event! By the way, don't expect a decrease in rent or massive changes to take place right away as there are a number of thing that need to be repaired or updated before we can begin to consider the "nice to have" types of things. Wiring, plumbing and air conditioners fall into the former category whereas a new kitchen with proper commercial appliances would fall into the latter. Live your life with all of the love you can muster, the happiness to make it fun and the hard work to make it successful! SMILE, it always makes them wonder what you have been up to ;-) So Mote It Be! 4 Page 4 From The West Bro Mike Bravin Senior Warden reetings from the west. It's hard to believe the year is half over. Time is just flying by. We are coming G up on are two big fundraisers for the year. The annual poker run and the Halloween party. Please get your ideas in on how we can improve these events, also do not be afraid to volunteer even a small amount a time can make a difference. My upcoming schedule for next year is starting to fill up, we have some great events planned as well as some exciting visitations. If any brother has a lodge that he would like to visit please share with me and we can try to schedule it. I would like to pay some wages to brother Paul for organizing another great widows luncheon, your efforts and your dedication to the fraternity is outstanding. I would also like to say thanks to the doctors who took great care of Brother Jerry Badinger, we are all glad that you are feeling better. Brothers it is not a secret that some of us need to start watching are weight and to quit smoking. We will be starting a health and wellness program at the lodge in the upcoming months (Weight loss, gym memberships and blood drives.) The two days in your life that mean something is the day your born and today, so let's stop putting things off until tomorrow and start today. Thanks and remember I take all ideas and am open to new suggestions. Hope to see you at lodge. From The South WB Jim Hewitt Junior Warden reetings from the South. The last couple of weeks have been busy for the lodge. The officers have been G polishing up on their first degree ritual getting ready for our first new candidate in a while. Which includes yours truly. I hadn't realized how rusty I ve gotten over the years. That first practice was pretty rough (I ll be the first to admit.) But by the time of the actual initiation everything went very smoothly. It was our annual Wardens meeting and we had guests from Tucson #4 and Marion McDaniels #56, that helped us put on the degree and eat the delicious steaks that Bro Mike prepared. And I would say that a good time was had by all, but most especially the candidate. After the ceremony of his initiation, when I told the candidate that Builders #60 was going to be initiating two candidates the following night he asked if he could attend. Since I had planned to attend anyway I told him that there was no reason for him not to go and that I would meet him there. We arrived in plenty of time and I got him organized and vouched for, properly dressed, and introduced around. Since he had been an Entered Apprentice Mason for less than twenty-four hours you can imagine how he felt to see the degree from the sidelines for the first time. He had a great time. On Friday night I went to the Southern Arizona Masters & Wardens meeting. I am pleased to announce that the membership is growing since the first meeting earlier this year. Since that was the first meeting held in over four year (due to lack of participation) our membership now has regular representation from Oasis Lodge #52, Tucson Lodge #4, and Marion McDaniel #56, and occasional representation from Adobe Lodge #41, Builders Lodge #60, and Downtown Lodge UD. That should do it for this edition. See you in lodge

Page 5 THE SAINTS JOHN By Paul Weathers, PM t. John the Baptist was cousin to Jesus Christ. We learn from well authenticated tradition that his parents S died while he was quite young and he was adopted and raised by the Essences, eventually becoming their Rabin. In that capacity he baptized the initiates to his flock of followers in the River Jordan, which thusly acquired the name of John the Baptist. With his stern insistence for integrity, he continued preaching against vice, and by his unshaken firmness, he eventually met martyrdom rather than betray his duty to the Master, which made him a proper patron of the Masonic institution. The festival of Saint John the Baptist occurs on each 24 th day of June. St. John the Evangelist was one of the most loyal of Jesus disciples. He was the younger brother of James who also was a disciple of Jesus. And like their father Zebedee, they were fishermen. Both were first disciples of John the Baptist until called by Jesus into his circle of followers. The mystical nature of John the Evangelist s apocalyptic visions commended him to the veneration of Patron Saint of the Freemasons. The festival to honor St. John the Evangelist is celebrated each 27 th day of December. Now let me introduce you to another St. John that isn t a Patron of Masonry, but had Masonry in his heart and worthy of attention; St, John the Almoner. This St. John was a son of Epiphanies, the Governor of Cyprus. He was called the Almoner because of his generosity to the poor and downtrodden. This St. John was married for a relatively brief period and fathered a child. Both the mother and child died. He turned to an active life in religion and in 608 AD he was named the Patriarch of Alexander. He devoted his life to the aiding of thousands of refugees from the Persian assaults on the Holy Land and had institutions for charitable care enacted. He referred to the poor as his Lords and Masters because of their mighty influence at the Court of The Most High. A wealthy man he was, but spent it all for the care of those less fortunate. Having predicted his own demise, he fled Alexander when Persian invaders continued intrusion of the region, with a vision and goal of bringing about his death. He took refuge in a place called Amathus, on the Island of Cyprus where he died circa 116 to 618 AD. His remains were interned in Constantinople until 1249 when they re-interned where they remain in St. John the Merciful Chapel in the St, Martin s Cathedral in Bratislava. St. John the Almoner, also known as St. John the Merciful, and other honorable titles, was the Patron Saint of the Knights Templar.

Page 6 OASIS MASONIC LODGE #52 A bit of its history By WB Paul Weathers I n the early 1950 s a few good and active Brother Freemasons visioned and contemplated the concept and needs for another Masonic Lodge in this vast and ancient crater of a massive volcano now being called Tuc-son. So about 22 of these brothers from Tucson Lodge #4, Epes Randolph Lodge #32, Adobe Lodge #41, and Aaron Lodge #49 came together and formulated a request to the Grand Master for a dispensation to create a new Masonic Lodge for this growing and thriving city. These Brothers consisted of Walter Barrows, Alva Martin Stultz, Frederick Otto Mey, Robert Anthun Hoegner, Thomas Wallace Russell, Gilbert Lee Beach, Clayton Hughes Gibbons, William Ashley Elliot, Jimmie Edward Pulley, Arthur Myers, James Nelson Corbett Jr. (Bro. Jim Corbett was the Mayor of Tucson ), Robert George Miller, Cecil Raymond Polley, Frederick Henry Shellidy, Joseph Capriota, Berkley Gene Beach, Ralph Ernest Lukens Meyer, Harry Lee Hancock, William Jacob Walker, Martin Albert Solot, Joe Wong, and Herbert John Burrows. Most Worshipful Grand Master Conrad H. Baldwin on determining the submission to be in proper form granted a dispensation warrant, appointing Brothers Walter Burrows as its first Worshipful Master, Alva Martin Stultz as Senior Warden and Frederick Otto Mey as the Junior Warden. And at the Grand Lodge Communication in Winslow, Arizona on Anno Domino April 22, 1957, Anno Lucas April 22, 5957 a Charter was signed by the Grand Master and Grand Secretary and issued to Oasis Masonic Lodge #52. As of 2013 Oasis Lodge was at age 56, with 46 different Masters, several serving more than one term in the Oriental Chair of the East. Thanks to the hard work and dedication of a great number of good Brothers Oasis Lodge is still a proud and very progressive Lodge, setting an example for others to emulate. May she continue to shine as a beacon of Freemasonry and serve the Craft in accordance with her proud saying,"the Place To Be For Masonry" OUR CHRISTIAN MASONIC BIBLE WB Paul Weathers, T here are numerous Sacred Books of various religions and ways of life around the world, all deserving of respect. However this writing deals with the Christian Masonic Bible. Brothers, we ve come a long way through operative and speculative Masonry to get to our Christian Holy Writings, The Masonic Bible. May it forever be revered and protected as a constant guide for life, both in and out of the lodge hall. Some history of the Holy Bible goes back thousands of years. It was originally written in archaic Hebrew and Aramaic, the language of Jesus, circa 900 BC. Several translations were made in different languages over the ages. It is believed that the first English Language bible was the Wycliffe Version. John Wycliffe ( ) was a Priest with a freethinking attitude. He became a Doctor of Theology and lectured on systematic divinity. He was in disagreement with organized church policies on teachings, restrictions on learning by the (Continued on page 7)

Page 7 DO YOU JUST BELONG? Author unknown Submitted by W.B. Paul Weathers Are you an active member The kind that would be missed, Or are you just contented That your name is on the list? Do you attend the meetings And mingle with the flock, Or do you stay at home And criticize and knock? Do you take an active part To help the work along, Or are you satisfied to be The kind that JUST BELONG? Do you ever go visit A member who is sick, or leave the work to a few and talk about the clique? Think this over, member, You know right from wrong, Are you an active member Or do you JUST BELONG? I would add to this that if a child is absent from school It gets behind in his learning. This can also be applied to the Masonic Brother who is constantly absent from his Lodge, (Continued from page 6) common people, especially for women, and the governing methods. He was more tolerant of other religious beliefs than that of the steadfast teachings of the church, which was adamant that their words were law and unquestionable. His strong convictions and bold speaking on those convictions lead to his being burned at the stakes in His translations of the bible were published in the 1380 s and that version contained 80 books. He had used 54 learned scholars to assist him in translating for that first English language Bible. After his death, some of his followers such as Nicholis Hereford and John Purley believed that the first version had left out words and phrases or had been improperly translated. They re-wrote it and some referred to that as the Purveys Corrected Version. History shows that the Bible has been re written several times over the ages. A realitively recent English translation is the King James Version. In 1611, under the strong influence of the Church, 14 books were eliminated saving 39 books of the Old Testament and 27 books in the New Testament, a total of 66 books. This version is now accepted as the word of God by most that are of the Christian faith. The Masonic Bible is the currently the King James Version, unaltered, but with Masonic enlightenment in the early pages, thus it being called The Masonic Bible. Even though most of us in the Christian faiths accept the current King James Version as the word of God, some of us wonder what we ve been deprived of. What was said and by whom, that we should have the right to read and decide for ourselves what to accept as Gods word and what not to accept. In other words, some of our freedom of thought is taken away. My Brothers, I believe that when we stop having a questioning mind we miss out on a lot of learning. (I used the following as sources for this writing; Websites, Greatside.com/englishbible/JohnWycliffe, biblehistory.com, and ColumbiaEncloprdia, 6 th e- dition.) And of course, using the last three paragraphs for my personal belief and thoughts.
