I wish all of our brethren and their loved ones a very Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukah as we end With the close of the year comes the end of my term as Master of the Lodge. I would like to thank all of the brothers and family members that have made this year at Tucson Lodge 4 great and memorable. Tucson Lodge 4 is blessed to have a great number of brothers that are dependable and are willing to help out with activities and those in need. We are out to make good men better, and you are all leading by example. A new year brings us a new Worshipful Master for the lodge. I hope that you can provide our ensuing Master with the same support you have given me this year. Brother Nick Andress will be installed as Master on Saturday, December 10 th at 2:00PM. 2 From The West The Future Behind Us Brethren, The year 2016 is nearly at its end and it has been a year in which I have come to know the privilege of serving the lodge as your Senior Warden. It has also been a year marked by the acquisition of Masonic enlightenment, the joy of new friendships, and the departure of several brothers to the Celestial Lodge above. I have come to know the value of change as a progressive and evolutionary concept carrying us all into the future as one inseparable band of brothers. Yet, the success of 2016 has only been made possible by the charity, integrity, and spirit of fellowship exhibited by my brothers, and which has made me so proud to be both a Mason and a member of Tucson Lodge #4. As this is recognized as the Season of Giving, it is of equal importance to note that is also the time of year suited to recognizing the achievements and generosity of so many members and affiliates of our lodge. From the youth groups who attended tour needs at our Stated Dinners to Bros. Rich Hall and Bob Conrad who regularly manned the library, imparting wisdom and Masonic values to men passing through our portals for the first time, we have all benefitted. From the Junior Warden, Wil Wilkinson, and his supporting cast who tended to our dinners, breakfasts, special event dining to the labors of the Thursday Crew who have tirelessly attended to the physical needs of our lodge, we have all enjoyed a higher quality of Masonic life. From the brothers who have provided education opportunities and those who attend to the lodge s paperwork, operations, and finances, without which we would have become a failed enterprise passing into the shadows of anonymity, our traditions are enabled to live on. From the families and friends of brothers who have supported our lodge, we have learned that charity and good works are a part of being a community and that love is often communicated merely through being supportive. And, we must give a particular nod of recognition to our 2016 W.M., Jon Schmidt, for his leadership, organizational talents, and zeal for the health of our fraternity as a whole and this lodge in particular, without which, we would not continue to be the most ancient and honorable fraternity the world has known through its long ages. I began this article looking at December as a time of closing and reflection, yet as I look back upon the words on this page, I discover that such is not the case. It is a marker of success and an indicator of hope for the future of our fraternity an indicator that as we look to the quality and prosperity of Masonry in ages past, so should we bear these lessons forward if we are to continue to grow and enlighten the world with the goodness that is in us all. 3 Brethren, From The South We had our family friendly Fellowship Breakfast on November 5th with pumpkin spice pancakes and cornbread specials. Brothers Mike Johnson, Richard Vaughn, Gene Wickey, and WB Vince Santos, along with Laurie staffed the kitchen. The stated meeting dinner was held on November 2nd. We served over 60 meatloaf dinner meals that Wednesday night. Gert White, Ellie Hall, Laurie Davis, Shari Schmidt, Cathy Simpson and WB Vince Santos, Paul Simpson and Brother Eric Madden, and the Jobs Daughters, helped in the cooking and serving of meals. Our human bodies nervous systems are designed to work best when we develop and maintain relationships with other people. We need our brothers, sisters and neighbors in our community to feel and be complete. Harvard researcher Daniel Goleman put it this way, The most fundamental revelation of the discipline of neurobiology is that we are wired to connect with others. In my opinion, the Great Architect of the Universe created us to need and have deep relationships with each other. This aspect of our humanity prepares and assists us to feel and show a deeper relationship with God. Eating together at lodge helps us to build stronger and deeper interpersonal relationships. The Holy Writings tell us: Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, Acts 2:46. Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me. Revelation 3:20. Working together in the kitchen and the lodge enables us to practice patience, kindness and understanding for ourselves and our Brothers while we continue to develop stronger and deeper interpersonal relationships. There is nothing better for a person than that he should eat and drink and find enjoyment in his toil. This also, I saw, is from the hand of God, Ecclesiastes 2:24. salad, baked potatoes, vegetables, fresh baked cornbread and dessert. WB Martin Jones will carefully grill the steaks personally with his Brotherly love at the lodge. There will be plenty of coffee and tea available. Dinner will be served at 6:00 pm followed by the December stated lodge meeting at 7 pm. Our next Fellowship breakfast will be held on Saturday, December 3rd, from 7-10 am with the usual delicious excellent eggs and omelets, bacon and other fresh food delights made with brotherly love. We will have special fresh apple compote pancakes too. Ellie Hall will cook fresh apples and chop them to put into the pancakes. Please join us for food, fun and fellowship. Remember to make your stated meeting dinner reservations by Monday, December 5, 2016, to ensure we can prepare enough food for everybody. I recognize again the privilege I have been given to serve as your Junior Warden. I am very grateful and reiterate I could not have done this job without help from so many others. DEADWOOD LUNCH Past Masters and friends gather on the last Saturday of every month for fellowship at: LAVERNA S COFFEE SHOP, STARTING TIME 11:30 A.M. Deadwood has become a social gathering and tool for the Brothers of our Lodge. The knowledge you pass onto some of our less informed Brethren is priceless. You are the link from the past to the future. The success of our lodge, and Masonry, is in your hands.
