2 Bridges Christian Church 1402 Kenwood Drive Russell, Kentucky Phone Fax Counseling Office Day Care/Preschool Follow Bridges on Sunday March Sermon Series Will Look at I Corinthians It s tough living in tension. On one hand believers have the promise of redemption, and on the other lies the reality of indwelling sin. The church, just like any other family or group of people, has its problems, but Jesus loves His church despite all the messes! MESSY CHURCH is study of Paul s letters to a church that was a total mess the church in Corinth. In 1 Corinthians, the Apostle Paul charges the church at Corinth to remember that though God has shown grace in their lives, their brokenness and continual need for redemption is real and ever-present. Many of the issues the Corinthian church faced are issues that our church must address as well: lack of unity within the church, elevation of personal agendas, and the failure to remember our common identity in Christ. This series seeks to address some of the main obstacles we face as a church as we try to move toward maturity both individually and corporately. We are partnering with the MSU Build A Bed program to ensure that PK 12 school age, Eastern Kentucky children are guaranteed a proper place to sleep in their homes. A bed is a luxury many people take for granted. Many children in Kentucky are living in homes without enough beds or, worst yet, none at all. While homeless shelters and various non profits provide goods for people when they move out, beds are often hard to come by for the working poor. Beginning as a Kentucky Americorps initiative, Build A Bed has been a huge success at contributing to the lives of struggling families. What we have learned is the demand for beds in our area exceeds what is funded every year. As one Americorp worker said to me, Thank you so much for doing this for these children. Choosing who gets a bed and who doesn t is always a difficult and emotional day for our committee and this will hopefully allow nearly all of the children to get beds this year. Last year they had 300 eligible for beds and were able to build 180. We decided as a church we could make a difference in a child s life, enjoy each other while we did it and at the end of the day we might have connected someone with Jesus and have met a new friend. Here s how it works! For $ you can build a bed. MSU Build A Bed aims to give these children more than just a new and comfortable place to lay their heads at night. Children also receive a bedtime bag that includes a pillow, sheets, blanket, pajamas, book, nightlight, alarm clock and a hygiene kit. Throughout the month of March and the first two weeks in April we will be collecting donations toward this project in the Dollar Fund boxes in our lobby. We have committed to build 50 beds to help offset the shortage they always have. With that said we need to raise $7, towards this project. Then on April 16th it s all hands on deck, young and old alike here at church, building the beds and then giving them to the children and their families as they come to pick them up. Walla, connecting people to Jesus and one another! Thanks in advance for knocking this one out of the ball park!

4 Hello, First Look Friends! It s a very special month this month. It s Easter! While it can be one of the busiest months of the year in our churches, the message of Easter is so important to share, even with our preschoolers. Jesus came to live among us because He wants to be our friend forever. He knew He was going to go away, and He knew He was coming back. He told His friends that was what was going to happen and it did. Jesus came back. He is alive. God sent Jesus to do a very important job. He came to teach us about how much God loves us and how much He wants us to love. We will share examples throughout the scriptures of how Jesus taught us about God s love. Jesus taught us to love God and love people. Our preschoolers will see how Jesus invited ordinary men to an extraordinary life when He asked them to follow Him. He said just those simple words follow me. They did. And, we should to. In fact, that s our bottom line for this month. I can follow Jesus. Who can you follow? I can follow Jesus. Isn t that what Easter month should be about? Following God s Son who came to save us all. I m so thankful God sent us Jesus. Let s celebrate that He is alive. Help Needed MARCH If you have ever thought about helping with our preschool children, now would be a great time to try. It seems like each year about this time, we lose several workers because of surgeries, job scheduling, or relocations. We are in need of several people to help us through May. Please contact Kathy Bennett at kbennett@bridgeschristianchurch.org or call the church if you would like to help over the next few months. Day Camp Despite the feel of the current weather, summer will come again and it is time to look at the Howell s Mill Christian Assembly church camp schedule and decide what day or week your children will attend. Miss Kathy will be taking our kids to day camp on Saturday, June 18. This day of camp is for children who will be Pre-K, Kindergarten, or First Grade in the fall. It is a great day of fun and a great way to find out what church camp is like without staying overnight. Plan to join us! The cost of Day Camp is $40.00 and includes lunch, canteen snack, an 8x10 color picture of the group, and a camp t-shirt and a great day full of fun! You may register online at There is no additional cost for registering online. If you child will ride the vans with us to camp, you must sign up for the van at the Preschool Check- In station. A complete list of all camp activities is listed on page 3. Out of the Mouths of Babes During the month of January, our Bible memory verse in the preschool department was Matthew 19:26. We talked all month about how Jesus is able to do things that are impossible for us such as walking on water, feeding 5,000 people with a small boy s lunch, and calming a storm. One of our boys was spending the night at his grandmother s house towards the end of the month. He saw a sign on her bedroom wall that said, With love, all things are possible. He looked at his grandmother and said, You need to take that sign down! When she asked why, he told her that the sign was wrong! She said it was not wrong, but he insisted. When she asked why he thought so, he looked at her and said, With God, all things are possible. Matthew 19:26. Once again we are collecting for our annual Youth Rummage Sale. Proceeds will go towards local mission impact projects. Please place your items in the BIG BLUE BOX located next to the Warehouse. Any questions, please call Aaron Young at

With a well-used building comes a lot of wear and tear which means we are in a constant state of upgrading and fixing the building. We are working hard at making our building energy efficient. We try to absorb much of the cost through our budget, but many items we have had to borrow money to complete. We have set a goal to payoff what we borrow over a two year period (the end of 2017). We appreciate those who have committed to give above their regular giving towards these improvements. If you would like to contribute to these projects you can give in two ways. First, through the offering plate each Sunday. Note on your check Building Improvements. Secondly, you can give through the Bridge online giving. Setting up your account is safe and easy. Once you set up your account go to the drop down window choose designation and click on building fund and then enter your amount. You can make it a onetime donation or a re-occurring donation. Over the past several months we have: 1. Fixed a major drainage problem in our parking lot at a cost of $25, Upgraded our twenty three year old sound system - $35,000 (we are able to use most of the old system in other places in the building) 3. Replaced twenty three year old roof over the worship center - $52, Carpet in the worship center has served us well and will be replaced in May - $50,000 Building Wish List: 1. Update landscape around the building - $10,000-$15, Lobby update $15, Remodel downstairs kitchen- $25, Better signage in the building - $6,000 Thank you for your continued faithfulness in your stewardship.

We laugh and sometimes cry together, but we are together and that makes all of it much better indeed. Our last meeting in November was hosted by our Youth Group who prepared and served a fantastic meal.we took time to share what we were thankful for. What has happened since? Some have had sickness, had to say goodbye to family and friends, gained or lost weight, grown a few new gray hairs, or gotten some great news and then some not so great news. But, if you are reading this, one fact remains true. You are still here on Earth and God can still use you. Since we were together last, I have spent a lot of time reading and watching trying to grow and gain more knowledge of God. I feel He has shown me some very good things in His word about being in touch with who He really is. God clearly says that we need to love each other with a love that only comes from Him, love that starts the wheels in motion to ask for forgiveness where needed, and to begin to let go of something that keeps me from receiving His full blessing. I pray you will come along side me as we just make this the day we change our hearts to be more like Christ, I fully believe we will see a great harvest from being open to what it so clear in His word. Love God, Love People. So, for 2016, I hope to introduce you to some people that have impacted my life in a positive way. I know they will yours, too. You may even be one of those people I am talking about and not even know that you have been making a difference in people s lives. We need to learn from these people and allow God to show us our God given talents to reach many for His Kingdom. Begin to pray today for our Life Group we call Sonshiners and encourage those around you to come see what we are all about. We meet the third Thursday of each month to enjoy a meal and do life together in fellowship. Remind those who say they are too young for this group that we are as old as we feel and we feel young ourselves! I would like to call us seasoned! So, folks, buckle up! We are ready to enjoy the ride. As always, if you need a ride to Sonshiners, please call We will arrange a ride for you.
