1 ACA TODAY HOLIDAY EDITION 2017 MERRY CHRISTMAS! Jim Rozendal Headmaster For to us a child is born, to us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. - Isaiah 9:6 Thursday and Friday of last week, Atlantic Christian Academy enthusiastically presented The Story of Jesus. Students in kindergarten through Grade twelve used instruments, drama, and song to present the amazing story of God s holy Son interrupting human history to come to earth as a baby in order to be our Savior. While it is always an amazing narrative to share, during the Christmas season people are more open to the wonder of Jesus. Who is He? What can He say and do for me? What does He expect from me? At ACA, students are learning more about Him every day, answering these questions as well as understanding that a relationship with Jesus affects every part of life. Over 200 names are given for Christ through the Bible, each giving us a clearer picture of who Jesus is. We discover that He can be our Counselor, Peace Giver, Strength, Deliverer, and Comforter. One of my favorite Christmas passages is Isaiah 9:6, where the Prophet Isaiah gives four amazing names for the coming Messiah, Jesus, that bring hope and comfort for children and adults alike. Each name of Christ is further explained in New Testament passages. James 1:5 Mighty God: But Jesus looked at them and said, With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible. Matthew 19:26 Everlasting Father: Yet for us there is one God, the Father from whom are all things, and for whom we exist, and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things and through whom we exist. I Corinthians 8:6 Prince of Peace: For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether here on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross. Colossians 1:19 20 At Atlantic Christian Academy, it is our privilege to help each student meet this Jesus and get to know Him more personally. 3 GRANDPARENTS & VETERANS DAY On November 10, ACA celebrated both Veterans and Grandparents Day with one of its most well-attended programs. The Atlantic Christian Academy Community commended the men and women that have sacrificed for our country and honored grandparents through music, song, and a special tribute given by senior, Daniel Zapata. Parents, grandparents, veterans, staff, and students were able to enjoy the choir presenting The Star-Spangled Banner and Mr. Skinner s rendition of God Bless the U.S.A. on the trumpet. A very special Military Medley was played and everyone in attendance was able to recognize special men and women that had served as they stood when their branch was named. Jocelyn Pagan, a senior at ACA, epitomized the heart of the celebration when she said, I m thankful we were able to celebrate the grandparents who raised our parents, who taught us to be who we are today, and the people who have selflessly defended our freedoms.

COMMUNITY HELPER DAY Our Kindergarten classes spent the month of October learning about community helpers. At the end of our unit, we celebrated with Community Helper Day.

4 COMMUNITY HELPER DAY Our Kindergarten classes spent the month of October learning about community helpers. At the end of our unit, we celebrated with Community Helper Day. Kindergarten students came dressed as the community helper that they want to be when they grow up. We had a parade throughout the Preschool and Elementary classrooms and offices. After the parade, each student had the chance to tell the class about the community helper that they chose. It was a great day in Kindergarten! ACA S MEDIA CENTER ESCAPE ROOM Did they escape? Our students in Grades 3-5 bravely entered ACA s Media Center this past month for their very own Thanksgiving Escape Room challenge. Students solved riddles, searched for clues, and worked as teams to find the key and escape in time for Thanksgiving Dinner. We are happy to say that all of the students escaped...some with just seconds to spare! ACA s Media Center is not just a place to check out great books, but also a place to collaborate, problem solve, be creative, and invent. Stop by and see what s going on! THE HISTORY OF THANKSGIVING 2nd grade wrapped up their Native American and Pilgrim unit with a special guest speaker. He taught the students what life was like back in that time period and showed artifacts including animal furs, shoes, bags, and more. The students were thrilled to feel and discover all the interesting artifacts.

5 JESUS The Story of Jesus Christmas production showcased all ages of talented ACA students. The Arts at ACA supports our commitment to glorify God by discipling students in a loving community that pursues excellence in Christian education. We were excited to provide a range of experiences including performance and production opportunities within our music, band, and drama classes.

6 MIDDLE SCHOOL SPIRITUAL CHALLENGE WEEK Our Middle School generously brought non-perishable food items to put together hundreds of Compassion Snack Bags for the homeless right here in our own county. We partnered with The Burrito Project, a ministry that has a heart to feed the homeless each and every week. Jesus said, Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me. Way to go middle school! NHS FOOD DRIVE ACA s Honor Society had the honor of organizing a campus wide food drive titled Food for Families in the month of November. Each class gathered non-perishable items to donate to one of our local food pantries in the area, Oasis International. After our two week collection period, we collected 1,447 pounds of food. What a blessing it was to be the hands and feet of Jesus in our community! 7TH GRADE CIVICS CLASS The 7th grade Civics and Economics class worked on a planting project to show love for their school. Students were able to clean up and plant with the help of our ACA Maintenance team and the donations from AAA Sod & Supply.

9 HIGH SCHOOL SPIRITUAL CHALLENGE WEEK 9th Grade Our 9th Grade went off campus to Feeding South Florida, where they did a phenomenal job representing ACA! They sorted, boxed, and essentially rescued 4,500 pounds of food. This provided 3,750 meals, which translated to 313 days of food for a family of four! Their teamwork was a beautiful sight to behold. 10th Grade Oasis Compassion Agency was thrilled to welcome our 10th Grade to come and help prepare for their busy holiday season! Our students demonstrated their hearts for those less fortunate by writing cards for families who would receive Thanksgiving and Christmas food baskets. They also helped to sort, organize, and prepare the food pantry so that it would be ready to provide for the families who come to Oasis each week. We are so proud of our 10th Grade! 11th Grade ACA's Junior Class stepped out of their comfort zone to help, spend time with, and love on the elderly at Signature Healthcare. What a special time it was to see our students display the love of Jesus! They took meal orders, assisted in physical therapy sessions, and made the residents feel super special in a time of talking over coffee. It is so beautiful to witness teenagers putting others needs first! 12th Grade Our Senior Class was absolutely amazing! They spent the day at Palm Beach Habilitation Center, facilitating an art carnival with their special needs clients. Palm Beach Habilitation Center was so thankful as they do not often have enough help to put on such a wonderful event, and their clients had an incredible day! Our Seniors were truly the hands and feet of Jesus, and we are so proud of the way they represented Him and ACA!

10 2017 THE YEAR IN SPORTS little BOYS BASEBALL Baseball is one of my favorite sports, and it was an honor to be able to share and teach the elementary kids an American past time. I know several kids will never forget this experience, as it was the first time they ever hit a ball and got to run bases. It was great to see how competitive they were, yet they still encouraged and motivated each other every time they got up to the plate. I look forward to coaching these kids again next season. Coach Chris Cooper ELEMENTARY AThletics BOYS SOCCER What a great Soccer season we had with the elementary kids! We had so much fun competing against each other and a final competition against another school. The kids were such a blast to be around, and were very eager to play. I look forward to playing with them all again next season. Coach Chris Cooper MIDDLE SCHOOL ATHLETICS BOYS SOCCER This was my first year coaching middle school soccer and I enjoyed every minute of it. I was blessed with such hard working and talented players who were constantly striving to improve their game. This team was incredibly special. The highlight of the season for me was being able to get to know each and every one of these guys. They always remained positive throughout the whole year. Even when we were down, they never gave up and I am extremely proud of them. Coach Josh Dubinski GIRLS BASKETBALL While this season was certainly a challenging one, it was also a very rewarding one. Our girls were over matched in size and numbers in nearly every game we played, but our team fought valiantly against every opponent, and came out victorious against several very talented teams. These girls came out and gave 100% at every practice, and in every game, and that truly was a testament to the work ethic these girls had. Like any young team would, the girls struggled at first to "click", but as the season progressed you could see the chemistry developing, and the team truly beginning to take shape. I'm very excited for the future of our middle school program, as well as excited to watch these girls make the jump to competing at the varsity level in the coming years. Coach Barbara Maynard VARSITY ATHLETICS BOYS BASKETBALL Though our boys team suffered a great deal of turnover from last year, the returning players, as well as the new faces have all stepped up to fill the void left by the senior class. Though the team still has some growing pains to work out, the coach is confident that this young team has what it takes to succeed. GIRLS BASKETBALL Our girls are off to a great start to the season, having won five games and only losing one. The team is young but they play like a group of veterans, always demonstrating great poise and leadership on the court. It will be exciting to watch this team as the season unfolds after break. BOYS SOCCER This year continues to be a "rebuilding" year for the ACA Sharks Varsity Soccer Team. With many talented players coming out each and every week our stats have continued to increase, now with a handful of players with multiple goals and assists to their name. As we look into the new year, we are hopeful that we will continue to improve and that God will honor our diligence and endurance. GIRLS SOCCER This season so far has been a challenge for our players. The first year of a new athletic program is always difficult, and our ladies knew that going in. The challenge hasn t fazed them though, and they ve competed hard in every game they ve played. It will be exciting to watch these girls continue to get better, and hopefully return to improve even further next season.
