Not only did it give me a strong start in my education, it fostered a bond between my parish and my family and taught me to love my Catholic faith. I believe our Catholic schools are valuable and effective tools for nurturing faith in families and in children. Our school helps educate the whole child: intellectual, spiritual, and moral. A parish school adds vitality to the entire parish community and is means of evangelizing a neighborhood. Our Catholic school does demand a life of stewardship; the sharing of time, talent, and treasure. We would not be able to maintain our school and have it flourish without the generosity of the entire community, especially our school families. The difference between the parish tuition and the actual cost to educate a student is covered by a subsidy from the parish. Since not every family has the same resources, a parish family can choose to use any or all of the parish subsidy. If their means are such that they do not need it, they can choose to decline any part of the subsidy so that more scholarship moneys are available for families with fewer resources. We want St. Vincent de Paul School to be accessible to every parish family. Ways you can support our parish school include: 1. Purchasing Scrip (Gift Cards)! While you get the full value of these gift cards, businesses donate a proportion of their value to the school. 2. Continue your support of the parish. About twenty percent of our ordinary income goes to the parish subsidy to help make the school accessible to all parish families. 3. Make a special gift to the School Endowment. There is an envelope in your monthly packet for this fund. Consider including the Endowment in your will. Currently our endowment is over $800,000, our goal is to bring it to one million. 4. Be an ambassador for the school. Mention our school to the young families you know. 5. Pray. Everything we do is dependent upon God s grace and our openness to that grace. A note from your Pastoral Assistant for Administration Prayer Requests Have a prayer request you would like the parish staff to pray for? Visit our parish website at and click on the Can We Pray for You button. To add a name of a sick person to the Prayers of the Faithful at Mass, please call the parish office ( ). The request must be made by an immediate relative or the sick person themselves. To request a Mass intention at a weekday Mass call the parish office. We are doing a modified Stewardship campaign this year, as the fund raising focus has been on the Archdiocesan Called to Serve as Christ campaign. We recognize that much is being asked of us financially, and we do not mean to create a financial burden for our parishioners. Our focus is on remaining steady with our Sunday contributions. If you are able to increase your pledge, we welcome it, but we know most parishioners will keep with their current level of giving, particularly if you have contributed to the Called to Serve campaign to fund retired priests and sisters medical and pension. You will be receiving your parish pledge card in the mail next week. Please fill them out and bring them back the following Sunday or return it in the postage paid envelope provided. We will also have pledge cards in the pews in the coming weeks. 7 St. Vincent de Paul Parish School Our Catholic Faith The primary reason for our Parish school is to promote our Catholic faith and traditions. The values that Jesus taught are modeled and expected at St. Vincent s. Within this faith-filled environment, we offer an excellent traditional education program promoting Catholic Schools Week (CSW) is an annual event. This is a time for us to celebrate being a Catholic school along with all other Catholic schools in the country. We have special activities planned during the week for students and families. Our annual Open House on Tuesday evening, January 29th, is for all current families, prospective families, friends, and parishioners. This is an opportunity to visit the school, see student work displayed, and talk with students, faculty, and staff. Visit the school!
