4 *Affirmation of Faith Jesus stays with us in the Spirit, who renews our hearts, moves us to faith, leads us in the truth, stands by us in our need, and makes our obedience fresh and vibrant. The Spirit's gifts are here to stay in rich variety fitting responses to timely needs. We thankfully see each other as gifted members of the fellowship which delights in the creative Spirit's work. Let us remember that there are holy days described in the Jewish texts, in which there is to be no fasting, but eating, drinking, and sharing of miracles. May the one who turned water into wine turn our tedium into festival, and show us how to alternate between commitment and carnival. Kerygma: On Jan. 20, Beginnings will start, a 4-week study covering the significant first chapters of Genesis. Led by John Page; Room 102. It Was VERY Good is the first session, with an overview of the course emphasizing God s relationship to creation. Also with discussion of the relationships between the biblical description of creation, science, and history. Bible and Beyond: Jan. 6 - Feb. 17. Study of book of Ruth using the Uppity Women of the Bible video series developed by Dr. Lisa M. Wolfe. Library. Faith Today: Short Stories by Jesus: The Enigmatic Parables of a Controversial Rabbi by Amy Jill Levine, professor of NT studies at Vanderbilt, led by Sheri Mitten, Room 100. Faith and Families: Currently studying Animate: Faith, in the Fellowship Hall. Adult I: Our Love of God continues with study of passages from I Thessalonians, the epistles of John and James, Philippians, and Psalms. Parlor. Children and Worship leaders are a key part of our ministry to 4-7 year olds. We need 2 more leaders trained to guide our children in experiencing the presence of God. This is a crucial need. Children in Worship happens during the first 40 minutes of the 11:00 a.m. worship service before the children return to the Sanctuary for a time of greeting, singing, and Bible passage presentation and response. Then, everyone is present for the last third of the service. Please contact Medora Hix to inquire further. Training is scheduled at your convenience. Faith Journey Sunday School for elementary children begins a unit on The Lord s Prayer, Jan. 27. During this 3-week unit, our Milestone on prayer for first graders will be offered simultaneously.
