New Testament Reading Acts 2:1-4, NT, p. 119, 120 Sermon Show Up Emmie Brown *Affirmation of Faith When we gather for worship, we are not only the body of Christ, but the best expression of Christ on the face of the earth. As people and as the Church, we praise God that we have been formed, re-formed, and are always re-forming, according to the Word of God and the call of the Spirit. Believing and accepting that God is greater than all that we are, we affirm that as followers of Christ, we are called to trust and believe in the loving oversight and activity of God in our lives. 3

4 In response to God s unending gifts and immeasurable grace, we come to worship with ready hearts, eager to shower God with gratitude and praise. In worship we acknowledge the God of the Trinity, God the creator father and mother of us all, who is uniquely revealed to us in Jesus Christ and is present through the Holy Spirit. We believe that God chose to become human in Jesus Christ; God chose to be with us then, and is with us now through the Holy Spirit. We find the authority of Christ in Scripture, and we acknowledge that God s word is made known to us in community with others and with the Holy Spirit. We invest our minds, bodies, hearts, and souls into the church, knowing that the church is the family of God. We rely on each other, hold each other accountable, and seek to grow our community of faith, so that we become more aware of each other, and of our role as followers of Christ within our broken world. 8 Announcements and Opportunities (Please check your E-Link newsletter in your or the PDF of E-Link on the CPC website for full information) Youth from 2nd through 8th grade are invited to be part of a Christmas musical, The King and Me, that will be performed during the Sunday School hour on Sunday, December 17. There are opportunities for actors, singers, prop/scenery helpers, and stagehands. Auditions will be THIS SUNDAY, October 29, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and rehearsals will be on Sunday afternoons until the performance. Fair Trade: this Sunday, October 29, we will have our regular Fair Trade items available outside Fellowship Hall before and after 11:00 worship. Contact Sally Goettel at Plan now to attend the first Alternative Gift Market on Sunday, November 19 from 12:00 noon until about 3:00 p.m. (and during the Sunday School hour). Alternative gifts are donations given as gifts to individuals which promote health, economic prosperity, and peace. There will be more than 15 booths for different projects, as well as actual goods including items from Clothing for Hope, Beads for Life, and Fair Trade Coffee, plus Guatemalan scarves. This will be a community-wide event so please spread the word. Eight souls from Cary Presbyterian are in Guatemala through Tuesday, Oct 31. Their work includes choosing scholarship students and establishing the program there, considering the building program s progress, discussing next steps in the Agricultural program, gaining knowledge about the water supply, and generally learning more about our Guatemalan friends lives and sharing about ours. Please pray for a successful and safe trip. The Social Justice Ministry at Cary Presbyterian Church invites you to a presentation about human trafficking on Thursday, November 16, at 7:00 p.m. Moffett Churn, Interim Associate Minister at First Presbyterian Church in Raleigh and a founder of the New Hope Presbytery Human Trafficking Roundtable, will speak about this phenomenon from a moral and faithinformed perspective. 9
