Yet we have wandered off and listened to other voices that shout that we are worthless and unlovable, that we must prove ourselves and earn another's love. We run after any experience that will ease our longing. We dash helter-skelter after any entertainment or novelty that will temporarily fill our ache. We look for anyone who will welcome us. We long for a love that has already been given to us. 2

3 All: Tender, Parenting God, remind us again and again that we are chosen and beloved by you. We have our identity given in the waters of baptism. We have our lives renewed by your holy Word and by the gifts of creation. We have a joy that is unending, and we are embraced in a love that lasts through eternity. 4 *Affirmation of Faith from A Brief Statement of Faith One: All: We trust in God, whom Jesus called Abba, Father. In sovereign love God created the world good and makes everyone equally in God's image male and female, of every race and people, to live as one community. But we rebel against God; we hide from our Creator. Ignoring God's commandments, we violate the image of God in others and ourselves, accept lies as truth, exploit neighbor and nature, and threaten death to the planet entrusted to our care. We deserve God's condemnation. Yet God acts with justice and mercy to redeem creation. In everlasting love, the God of Abraham and Sarah chose a covenant people to bless all families of the earth. God makes us heirs with Christ of the covenant. Like a mother who will not forsake her nursing child, like a father who runs to welcome the prodigal home, God is faithful still. 8 Announcements and Opportunities Vacation Bible School registration is still open: Forms are in the Narthex. Complete one form per child. Invite a friend and have them experience a fun-filled, educational, and welcoming time for children from age 4 through rising 5th graders. Vacation Bible School will be June 25 29, 5:45 p.m. 8:15 p.m. PARENTS: There will be a family potluck at 5:00 p.m. for Sunday s opening June 25. This will follow a 4:30 p.m. craft time for families on the VBS theme: Heroes: Discover Your Strength in God. Feel free to stay through Opening Assembly at 5:45 that day. CPC Family Staycation Retreat: Plan NOW and put Saturday, Sept 23 on your calendar for the day in Cary! No expensive lodging. There is a kick-off event on Friday evening, Sept. 22 here at CPC: potluck supper, group games, and singing at the outdoor chapel. More info later! This summer, all are invited to attend one or more in a series of Summer Conversations hosted by the Social Justice Ministry. These facilitated discussions, each based on a short reading, will help us examine how our faith is affected and informed by pertinent events and topics. Summer Conversations will be held from 9:00 a.m. 9:45 a.m. (preceding 10:00 a.m. worship) in Room 100 on these Sundays: June 18, July 16 and August 20. Our first discussion, Words Matter. will examine the value of free speech and the use of language and words in public discourse and in matters of faith. Please read all or part of the following article at this link ( on which the June 18 Summer Conversation will be based. (Hard copies are available in the CPC office.) Triple F News Group members enjoyed their picnic on June 5, (moved to CPC because of weather concerns). Great food, good company, and competitive Bingo games were enjoyed in memory of Estelle Cameron. Thanks to Wayne Honeycutt for being our caller. A good time was had by all! The next Triple F get together is Monday, July 17, 9:30 a.m. for brunch at IHOP. 8

9 Open Choir Opportunity Ed Yasick extends an invitation to the entire congregation for an inter-generational "open choir" opportunity on June 25th. We will sing "God of Great and God of Small, and we would love to have people of all ages participate. This spring we had dads sing with their kids: this is an opportunity for all parents, grandparents, etc. to come and bring their kids and grandkids along to sing together. We would love to fill the choir loft. (You will not have to sit in the choir loft for the entire service, only when it is time for the anthem.) Plan on meeting in the choir room 20 minutes before the 10:00 a.m. service. Please come and help us make a joyful noise unto the Lord! Ties That Bind: Father's Day is today: Sunday, June 18 CPC congregants recorded brief tributes to their mothers a few weeks ago for Ties That Bind: now it s Dad's turn. Consider taking a few moments to record a favorite memory about your father or something you appreciate about him. It s a Ties That Bind moment of sharing with one another about those who are still with us or have passed on. This is an opportunity to get to know one another better and honor those whom we love: our dads. To record, use your iphone or Android and search for Voice Memo. Say your name and your father's name and share with us why your dad is so special. Our young ones are welcome and encouraged to participate as well! Recordings will also be shared on the Ties That Bind web page at CPC s Ties That Bind (TTB) audio recording ministry, which is patterned after NPR sstorycorps program, was approved by Session in the spring of 2016 as a means of addressing one of the top three priorities established by our congregation- to be more intentional in our effort to connect with one another, our own community and the world. 9

The team will lodge at a local elementary school with AC and hot showers. As former ASP team members know, this is welcome news! As our team travels, they are undergirded by your generous and loving support as a congregation, as in years past. Below is information from ASP about Scott County. Statistics tell one story, though not the whole story. ASP is about making homes warmer, safer and drier for God s people in need in the heart of Appalachia. Of equal if not greater significance, though, are relationships the mission team members form with each other, the ASP staff, and especially with the families they serve. What they see, experience, and share can be transformative enough to last a lifetime. Let us remember this year s team in our thoughts and prayers, along with all the families they will meet, and the experiences they are yet to have. History of ASP in Scott County: ASP has served Scott County on and off for several years. ASP works well in Scott County because an existing non-profit organization, the Morgan Scott Project, already serves families having many needs during the year. They assist ASP in finding families to assist, and follow up our work after volunteers leave the area. Population: 21,947 Terrain: Partially mountainous, partially agricultural. County Seat: Huntsville Major Employers: Manufacturing, Prison, School System Per Capita Income: $18, Percent Living Below Poverty Line: 25.5%
