1 I would like to enlist you in the conspiracy of prayer as Frank Laubach described it in his 1946 book on Prayer, The Mightiest Force in the World. A conspiracy to pray inwardly in every possible way, throughout each day. So keep your eyes open and pray. Pray for those who are leading or sharing. Pray for those who are listening or not. Pray for those who are present and those who are away from you. Pray, because prayer sets the spiritual atmosphere in the place you are: Church, Car, Home, Work, School Each and Every place you are. Your prayer grounds you in the eternal present and opens you to the work of the Spirit in and through you in that place and time. Pray in a flash as you wake up in the morning, as you prepare for the day ahead. Pray as you prepare your meal and not just before you eat, but also as you eat. Pray as you leave your home, as you walk or ride to work or school or errands or activities and as you return home. Pray between interviews and during conversations. Pray as you total another column and as you erase a mistake. Pray in the aisles and the buildings of your living. Pray with a word, Jesus. Pray with a focus, Jesus, help him/her/them. Pray in all the hundreds of empty moments that make up your day, and then as you fall asleep, pray and let the last words that touch your breath be God s and not yours as you surrender your all to Him, Jesus. Pray. You can be yes you, An answer to prayer. There is work to be done; A field to be won And millions are praying, Hands lifted, hearts saying: O Lord, yet how long Until right conquer wrong? You can answer that prayer You answer that prayer. A.D. Buchet Take the chance, pray and live. Amen. See you in Church, Pastor Craig We will continue to meet for Bible on Thursday mornings at! We are studying 1st Corinthians. We d love to have you join us! Thursday Night Prayer Meeting Please come join us on Thursday nights from 7 pm to 8 pm, as we gather together to pray for our church, community and other prayer requests. Everyone is invited to and encouraged to come and participate. There is absolutely no pressure to pray out loud.

3 The Habitat for Humanity Methodist build will be at 1438 North 3 rd St. in Springfield. The tentative plan is to put in the foundation sometime in June. This will be contracted out. Blitz week for House 109 is tentatively set towards the end July. During blitz week the house would be framed and enclosed including roofing. After the blitz, contractors will rough in mechanicals for plumbing, HVAC, and electrical. Volunteers will return after this to start finishing work. Scheduling for a build is always tentative because it can always be affected by weather conditions. Several UMC s are involved in the build, including, Athens, Cantrall, Auburn, Bissell, Chatham, Cotton Hill, Douglas Ave, First UMC, Laurel, Petersburg, Rochester, Sherman, and Williamsville. Committed funds received for the build now amount to $42,000, with several churches still to report. SUMC has so far collected $837. $50,000 must be committed before construction can begin. Churches have until the end of the build to make their payments. Both construction and non-construction volunteers are needed. Construction is open to both skilled or unskilled volunteers. Non-construction volunteers include serving as a site host to greet volunteers and help everyone sign-in. Water will be provided by Habitat. The site host can keep track of the inventory and inform the project coordinator or construction manager when the supply needs to be replenished. Hospitality volunteers are needed to provide simple lunches for volunteers. They can prepare the lunches (sandwiches are easy to eat at the construction site), or purchase from a local deli, pizza place, etc. Prayers are also needed for the build. Verily I say unto you, inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me. Matthew 25:40 Glenn McGeath Chair, Missions Committee What a beautiful time of the year! The sun is shining, the birds are chirping, the flowers are blooming. Spring. has finally arrived! Hallelujah! 4 Camp Sonshine News The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. -Psalm 19:1 We are getting so excited to begin another fun summer here at Camp Sonshine! We have so many field trips and activities planned. The kids will definitely be busy! We can t wait to worship every day with these children. Our theme this year is bugs, so don t be alarmed if you see a few around the church fake ones, hopefully the real ones will stay outside! God created bugs, just like he created us! As small as some of our kids are that come to Camp Sonshine, God has a purpose for each and every one of them. Your prayers are welcome as we continue to prepare for this summer. Devan Pfeiffer, Camp Sonshine Director Operation Christmas Child Do not forget to do good and share with those in need. Hebrews 13:16 There are about 6 months left until Operation Christmas Child Our kids at Kid s Place love packing those shoe boxes full of goodies to send to children who might not otherwise receive a Christmas gift or even know who Jesus is. How awesome is it that we get to share this with them?! When you are shopping this month, please consider picking up some extra toiletries to donate bars of soap, toothbrushes/tooth paste, wash cloths, hair bands, bows, etc. These are just a few of the items that we like to put in the boxes! Cancer Support Group We will not be meeting again until this fall. If you have cancer or have been newly diagnosed and need to talk to someone or prayers, please contact Jennifer Jones at or her at jennajones812@hotmail.com. God bless each one of you. Kid s Place Art Show & Ice Cream Social Please join us on Thursday, May 17 th from 6:00 pm-7:00 pm in the gym and check out some of our kids art work! We will have art work on display, some art projects to do, and ice cream to eat! Everyone is welcome and we would love to see you there. Kids Place News Praise the Lord for the glory that belongs to him. Worship the Lord because of his beauty and holiness. Psalm 29:2 It s hard to believe that we are wrapping up another year at Kid s Place. Reflecting on this last year, I am amazed at what our staff and kids have done and learned in such a short amount of time. We have learned to use the word of God to keep our attitudes in check, that the Bible teaches that our emotions are a gift from God, how much joy there was on earth and in heaven when Jesus was born, God created the heavens and earth and everything in it. This is just to name a few! How blessed we are to have this platform to be able to teach children the word of God nearly every day! We are wrapping up the year with a Bible Art unit, where we will teach the children all about the beauty and greatness of God. We will conclude this unit with our very own art show and ice cream social. You can read all about this in a separate article in the newsletter. We would love to have you join us! Kid s Place registration is underway for the 2018/2019 school year. If you or someone you know is interested in the after school program for next year, please have them call to be added to our waitlist. Thank you for your prayers throughout this school year. We certainly could not do this without the church s support. We are looking forward to another school year next year! Devan Pfeiffer, Kid s Place Director Church Ladies - We will be meeting at the church at 11 am on Wednesday, May 16th. We will be heading to Morning Star Tea Room in Salisbury, IL. Please call Donna McFarland at or Carol Poe at to RSVP by Thursday, May 10th.

K-5 Sunday School Class Teacher Needed for the Summer We are looking for a new teacher or teachers (tag team) to lead us this summer. If you would like to hang out with an awesome group of kids, please contact Karen in the office. The K-5 Sunday School Class meets every Sunday in Room 201. We are a small, but mighty group learning the stories of the Bible and celebrating Jesus love for us. We use a curriculum from Cokesbury called Deep Blue that uses a one room schoolhouse approach covering our wide age range. We have fun reading from the Bible, watching short animated Bible stories on DVD, singing songs, playing games and doing puzzles. Melissa Roberts and Rhonda Loyd Mary Cockrell High School Sunday School class. We are working our way through the Bible, watching the series The Bible the history channel put out and then comparing it to the actual Bible, going through what the History channel got right, what they got wrong and what they totally left out. We are currently in Daniel. The Midwest Distribution Center is a Methodist organization that provides disaster relief, education, and medical supplies to those in need here and abroad. Volunteers, both men and women, are needed to pack kits, sort items, help with mailings, build desks, and repair bicycles and sewing machines. We will be going on the first Monday of each month from 12 to 4 pm. If you are interested in helping or need more information, please contact Alice Swanson at alicems42@yahoo.com.
