1 The Mountain View Volume 14 Issue 9 September 2014 You are invited to join us on September 28, noon At Mountain View Baptist Church Our Annual Church Picnic and Pastor Ben Pate s Going Away Party This is going to be a great time of Fun, Fellowship and Food. We will be having hamburgers and hot dogs. The church will supply the water, lemonade and ice tea. There will also be jumping castles. Please bring a side dish to share. 2 Encouraging Words Pastor Ben s Resignation It is with great sadness that we announce Pastor Ben s resignation as our Student Pastor. His last day with us will be September 30 th. He has accepted the call to be the Senior Pastor of Desert Springs Baptist Church in Hesperia, CA. Although we are very sad to see Ben, Diana, and Annabelle leave our church, we know that this is God s plan for them. On Sunday, September 28th, Pastor Ben will preach in both services and then we will have a goodbye luncheon for them. We will combine the annual church picnic which is normally on the first Sunday of October with this goodbye party. I want to say thanks to Pastor Ben for all he has done in our student ministries over the last three years. He has worked hard to improve and strengthen these areas. He and Diana have also built wonderful relationships with many in our church. Thank you and the Lord bless you in your new adventure in ministry! New Interns I would also like to announce that we have two interns working at MVBC. First, Leigh Elkins is our Children s Ministry Coordinator. She will be helping in all areas of the preschool and children s ministry of our church. Leigh has worked in this ministry already for many years as a volunteer and now she is using her expertise at a higher level. Second, Jared Moore is our Pastoral Intern with primary responsibilities of working with our youth. Jared is sensing a call from the Lord to be in ministry so Pastor Ben and I have been mentoring him. Working as an intern is a good step in continued mentoring. I welcome both to our MVBC staff and look forward to ministering together. Please pray for Leigh and Jared as they adjust to these new responsibilities and be ready to help them wherever possible. 3 2014 Arizona Mission Offering Working together with Him, we also appeal to you, "Don t receive God s grace in vain. Welcome to the AWANA year. We will begin on September 3, 2014 at 6:30 pm. Our club is for children ages 3 years to 6th grade. If you would like to register your child you can go to our website at 2 Corinthians 6:1 (HCSB) Don t let the message of the gospel drop! Don t do nothing with the Gospel! Do something about it Now is the Day of Salvation for all peoples! David Johnson, executive director of the Arizona Southern Baptist Convention states "I used to think this appeal was intended for non-believers, but now I have come to the conclusion it is an appeal to believers to work together in the ministry of reconciliation as ambassadors for Christ to bring the gospel to the whole world because the love of Christ compels us! God is at work in Arizona, and it is our privilege to join Him in spreading the good news of Jesus Christ to every corner of our state. Everyone can join this endeavor by supporting the Arizona Mission Offering. Every year in September, Arizona Southern Baptist churches give to the Arizona Mission Offering. The offering provides additional support beyond the Arizona Southern Baptist Convention budget for missions and ministries aimed at sharing the gospel with those who don't know Christ. Please join with fellow Arizona Southern Baptists in praying for God s blessing, guidance, direction, and protection for these ministries as we join to share the wonderful news of the gospel of Christ with hurting neighbors. Please pray for God s counsel as you give to the Arizona Mission Offering to help meet this year s goal. We do ask that volunteers be members of our church and adult volunteers must fill out a back ground check form. Cortaro Farms Rd. Tucson, AZ Tickets are $20 each. This does include lunch. You can purchase tickets at the New Life website: This is a wonderful day of worship and Bible Study. On Friday September 26, 2014 we are going to be having our 1st Men s Night Golfing Event. Please join us for a time of golf and fellowship afterwards. We will tee of at the heritage Highlands Golf Club at 4:30 pm for 9 holes. The cost of the Golf game is $10 per person. You will pay that at the Pro Shop. We will then go to the Taylors home for pizza. If you would like to be part of the golf game you do need to RSVP to Pete George at petegeorge801@gmail.com. If you will be only be able to make the pizza fellowship that will begin about 7 pm at the Taylor s home, N. Sunset Mesa Dr., in Marana. October Operation Christmas Child Packing Party October 18, a.m. in the Atrium Ladies, we are colleting items that can be used in the OCC boxes. We will meet for a time of fellowship and learning. If you would like a list of suggested items you can see Diana in the office or go to If you have questions call On October 3rd and 4th we will be going to the U.S. Airways Center in Phoenix AZ for the ACT LIKE MEN Conference. Cost is $89 per person. Some of the men who will be presenting at the conference are James MacDonald, Matt Chandler, One Sonic Society and the Vertical Church Band.
