When Our Lady of Lourdes Parish and School are CLOSED due to weather, there will be NO communion service, weekday mass, meetings, activities, or athletic events. School closure decisions are made by the superintendent s office, and will be announced on local radio/tv stations.

Completed cards may be put in the collection basket or sent to the Parish Office. Stewardship Reflection After all the people had been baptized and Jesus also had been baptized and was praying, heaven was opened and the Holy Spirit descended upon him in bodily form like a dove. ~Luke 3:21 Our stewardship journey begins in the waters of baptism. It is through baptism that we are given a new life and become disciples of Jesus. As Jesus disciples, we are called to build the kingdom of God with the gifts God has given us. Thomas Gentile and the Office of Mission Advancement Louisville, KY Gospel Reflection As we celebrate this feast of the Baptism of the Lord, we can study His actions at the Jordan River as a powerful example of servant leadership. We see in Jesus a type of leadership that is characterized by humility and leading by example. Certainly the sinless Savior did not need a baptism of repentance! But Jesus humbly made Himself one with his people to draw us to Him and create a relationship with us so that we would be open to His teachings and influence. As a servant leader, we also see that Jesus leads by example. He doesn t just tell the people they need to be baptized; He shows them how and does it Himself to teach them. To lead like Jesus, we, too, must walk the walk and not just talk the talk. If we want those we lead to be generous and hard-working, then we must show them how to do this by demonstrating generosity and hard work ourselves. Immediately after His baptism, we learn of the powerful affirmation of the Father who opens the heavens, sends the Holy Spirit upon Jesus in bodily form and says audibly, This is my beloved Son with whom I am well-pleased. Let us be filled with gratitude for our amazing God and be reminded that when we are grateful followers of Jesus and servant-leaders in imitation of Him, the Father will be wellpleased with us, too. 5 The Baptism of The Lord January 13, 2019 Advent Generosity Thanks to all parishioners for their outpouring of generosity for our holiday Advent Tree. Keith Steer of St. John s Center called and said that he d never seen such a massive response to his request for sweatshirts. When we delivered clothing to Sister Visitor Center the Monday after the first weekend of collecting, Sister Michele s response was Thank God! In addition, the toiletry closet at House of Ruth will have plenty of supplies well into the new year. We delivered twice to each of the three nonprofits. Thanks to parishioners, to Lourdes students who helped load cars, and to the drivers who gave of their time to deliver the donations. Youth Day of Service Wow! Great turnout for our Youth Day of Service! Students from middle school age to high school joined forces to sort, hang, fold, and organize the many donations at the Catholic Charities Refugee Warehouse on Market Street. There was even some fun thrown in, and lunch at The Table was terrific! Thanks to all the students and their chaperones for sharing part of your Christmas break! Peace for Parents Managing Difficult Childhood Behaviors at Home and School Our Lady of Lourdes PTO will offer a free seminar on Thursday, January 17, at 7:00 PM featuring Kim Dwyer-Moore, MS, BCBA. Learn about strategies to avoid incidents of challenging behaviors in home and school settings. Preventative guidelines for arranging the home and school environments, setting expectations, and encouraging positive behaviors will be discussed. There will be time for questions. All are welcome! Even if you have already broken some resolutions, recommit to putting your beloved first in words, in acts of kindness, in attention. Parenting pointers January 13 is the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord. If your children are old enough, recount with them the story of their baptism. If you can remember, tell the story of your own baptism and what it has meant to you.
