Inclement Weather If Jefferson County Catholic Schools are CLOSED, the Parish Office is also CLOSED. When Our Lady of Lourdes Parish and School are CLOSED due to weather, there will be NO communion service, weekday mass, meetings, activities, or athletic events. School closure decisions are made by the superintendent s office, and will be announced on local radio/tv stations.

These are just a handful of the many ways our parish works to live out our mission: To know, love, and serve God Love and serve our neighbors and grow intentional disciples. KNOW LOVE SERVE GROW

4 Louisville, KY Gospel Reflection And so it begins the holy season of Lent. The Church encourages us to increase our prayer, fasting and almsgiving in order to enter more deeply into the mystery of our Lord s Passion and Death and to celebrate more fully His Resurrection. Jesus, by His own example, demonstrates the necessity of setting aside time devoted to prayer and fasting as a means of strengthening our spiritual muscles. Just before the launch of His public ministry, He is led by the Holy Spirit into the desert for forty days, to be tempted by the devil. In imitation of Jesus, we should ask the Holy Spirit to lead us into the desert also, the desert of our interior lives where our thoughts and desires reside. While Jesus was strong enough to withstand the temptations of the devil on His own, we most certainly are not! We must ask the Holy Spirit to show us where we need to grow, and then rely on Him for strength and guidance. Perhaps we will be led to take on a spiritual reading program, or a daily time of meditation on the Scriptures. Maybe we ll be inspired to fast from our favorite food or social media fix and find a project that serves the poor in our community. If these spiritual exercises hurt a little, that means we are doing them right! At the end of the Lent season, we will be prepared for the grace-filled days of the Triduum and we will, through the power of the Holy Spirit, be resurrected as a new creation with our Lord come Easter. Stewardship of Treasure We have sent $500 from your stewardship contributions to the Black and Indian Missions, which helps build the Church and preach the Gospel of Jesus among the African American, Native American, and Alaskan Native people of God. These donations help fund parish-based catechetical programs, support teacher and catechist professional development, encourage vocations, and create diocesan structures, such as our own archdiocesan Office of Multicultural Ministry that support ministry and evangelization in these diverse cultural communities. Conversations with Archbishop Kurtz Chancellor Dr. Brian Reynolds and Archbishop Kurtz discuss Pope Francis Lenten message, and a new video series, Work of the People: The Catholic Mass, produced by the Archdiocese to promote full, conscious, and active participation in the Mass. Stewards return the first fruits of their labors to God, not the leftovers. This practice is a reminder to always place God first in our lives. Based on reflections prepared by Rev. Archbishop s Letter Adults are encouraged to read the letter from Archbishop Kurtz, as well as the report regarding sexual abuse issued February 8. Scholarship Tax Credit From the Catholic Conference of Kentucky Momentum is building towards passing HB 205, which would create a Scholarship Tax Credit program that will make K-12 tuition at non-public schools, including faith based schools, more affordable for thousands of Kentucky families. Please contact your state representative at and ask them to pass House Bill 205. The operator will help get the message to the right representative. It only takes a couple of minutes to make a difference!

Meal Train The arrival of a new baby, the loss of a loved one, an illness these are just a few of the situations that bring out the need for assistance with meal preparation. As friends, neighbors, and parish community, we are given the holy opportunity to extend a hand in loving assistance. By participating in a meal train program, we can help alleviate the worry over the time and energy of meal preparation for those in need. Boy Scout Troop 325 Our Boy Scouts are taking orders now for black or brown hardwood, or cypress blend mulch. Delivery is scheduled for April in the zip code area (contact the troop for other areas). They do not spread the mulch but will place the bags as directed around your yard. Mulch is available for customer pick-up in the Lourdes parking lot on April 13. Family Ministries Marriage Moments It s Lent, a time to take stock of our lives both spiritually and physically. Many people give up bad habits or even harmless pleasures to join with Jesus suffering on the cross. What you choose to do (or not do) is unique to you, but consider one Lenten action that you both do. You can be a support to each other. Parenting Pointers The Spring Equinox will be Wednesday, March 20, when we have nearly equal light and dark. Why should you care? It determines the date of Easter. Easter is always the first Sunday after the first full moon following the Spring Equinox. That s why it changes every year. Explain this to your child; you ll probably sound pretty smart.
